District 20: Looking to the future

The decision of Chandler Mayor, Boyd Dunn, not to seek a District 20 legislative seat, has Republicans casting for a winnable candidate for the 2008 cycle. The East Valley district will be losing Rep. Bob Robson to term limits.

In 2006, the district’s incumbent Republican Senator, John Huppenthal, won his seat by a 3,000 vote margin. Comfortable? Yes. But with registered Independents gaining in numbers, and the composition of the district changing as newcomers move in, it makes for a less tranquil race. A Democrat win could have far-reaching consequences.

First vice chair of District 20, Donna Gratehouse, and Phil Westbrooks former councilman and Chandler vice mayor, are likely Democrat candidates.

  1. John Says:

Jeff Dial, who ran a great race in 2004, finishing just a couple of hundred votes behind McComish and Orlich, is declared and running. McComish is a proven vote-getter as well. Together, they’d make a strong team for the GOP.

I have to agree with John. Dial is a nice guy, I’ve known him for many years and he will do a good job.
