Jeff Flake: touting appearance on 60 Minutes
He’s no Jimmy Stewart regardless of Morley Safer’s wet kiss
CD 6 Congressman, Jeff Flake, known to many as the most appropriately named person in those hallowed halls for his irresponsibility on border security, has sent out an unusual mailer.
Oh, sure—he’s asking for money. That’s a given. Especially with a viable challenger in Rep. Russell Pearce (R - Dist. 18), who most certainly taps into citizen frustration on this highly-charged issue.
The reason his mailer was worth more than the walk from the mailbox to the trash, was the full-color photo showing Flake engaged in a warm chat with none other than ancient liberal interviewer, Morley Safer.* Safer remains somewhat obscured on the appropriate and shadowy left side of the picture. Flake is fairly glowing on the right, bathed in luster, as he strikes a casual pose while sunlight glimmers off his very blond tresses.
And below the carefully photoshopped photo is this quote from Morley Safer:
“Jeff Flake’s story is a familiar one, immortalized 67 years ago in the film “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington,” starring Jimmy Stewart, who portrayed a young idealist who runs up against the real Washington world of fat cats, special interests and rotten apples.”
Betch’a a military guy like Jimmy Stewart* would have voted for securing the border by building a wall and wouldn’t have fallen for normalizing relations with Communist Fidel Castro’s Cuba, which the U.S. State Department identifies as a state sponsor of terrorism. It would be difficult to imagine Jimmy Stewart–either in real life or as his Mr. Smith character, partnering with liberal congressional colleague, Democrat Luis Gutierrez, in pushing the “Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy Act” or STRIVE Act, granting tuition and other benefits while extending amnesty for illegal aliens living in our country in violation of our national sovereignty and rule of law.
Flake has made exposing “earmarks” his calling card. In truth, all the watchfulness over out-of-control spending won’t amount to the worth one of his single glimmering head hairs if we don’t secure our borders and protect American citizens from an onslaught of illegal aliens with no regard for our history, culture, language or laws.
Our porous border remains an open portal for terrorists. National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell’s office has revealed that during fiscal 2006, there were 14 Iraqi nationals caught trying to enter the U.S. illegally, while so far in 2007, that number is 16. Can you tell us how many entered successfully, Mr. Flake?
” I don’t think history has any reason to be kind to him.”
*“ Morley Safer, CBS 60 Minutes correspondent, recalling President Ronald Reagan on CNN’s Larry King Live, June 14.
* Stewart was the first movie star to enter the service for World War II, joining a year before Pearl Harbor was bombed. He was initially refused entry into the Air Force because he weighed 5 pounds less than the required 148 pounds, but he talked the recruitment officer into ignoring the test. He eventually became a Colonel, and earned the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Croix de Guerre and 7 battle stars. In 1959, he served in the Air Force Reserve, before retiring as a brigadier general. He was a conservative Republican and a hawk on the Vietnam War

Jeff Flake is a classic proponent of illegal immigration. Why any congressional representative of the American people would support an unlawful mass migration of foreign nationals into our country is beyond any rational thinking. I deplore his efforts to assist in this flood of those who disregard our laws and his desire to continue funding them through bills such as STRIVE and the DREAM act.
He has built a reputation on going after “pork” spending legislation, but acts in opposition to his showboating statements. I’ll pay attention to Flake’s actions rather than his glib rhetoric.

I see you’re a HUGE fan of Jeff Flake… :),

He’d have more fans if he paid attention to the border. A lot of us are tired of his slipping and sliding on national security and giveaways. Flake talks endlessly about earmarks, but his STRIVE Act is a monstrosity of Federal spending, as is the DREAM Act, which is a nightmare.
Those of us with families want this country to be secure and prosperous for our children. He’s shown us we can’t trust him in this regard. We live in his district and are all too familiar with him. He is glib beyond belief. If some of us don’t like him, it’s fine with him. He likes himself enough for all of us. My wife and I have previously voted for him, but won’t make that mistake again!

He is arrogant and needs to be replaced!

Jeff Flake has always been more a Libertarian than a Republican. He was director at the Goldwater Institute, which is a Libertarian, NOT REPUBLICAN, think tank.
The fiscal talk sounds great , until you factor in the trillions of dollars his amnesty plans will cost the taxpaying citizens of this country. Then add in the costs involved with expansion of social security, education and health care for the millions of mostly low wage illegals he would like to normalize.
I went to his web site and he doesn’t even mention his STRVE plan or co-sponsorship with Democrat Luis Gutierrez there. You have to search around to find what he is really supporting. Remember that he was onboard for the so-called Comprehensive Immigration Reform, that raised the voices of the American people loud enough to have the elected elite back-burner it….for the time being.

Safer’s quote about Reagan should have been enough to have Flake running in the opposite direction. He probably thought no one would remember it.

It’s the lure of the camera. Those bright lights make you lose all sense of reason. Have you ever shone a flashlight directly into a gerbil’s cage in a darkened room?

What I believe is that his open border policy (regardless of how he tries to frame it) puts us all at risk. We are especially vulnerable here in a border state. I despise this attitude that those coming into our country are just good hardworking people trying to make a better life for themselves. Our crime statistics show a different picture,
Work to better your own country’s corrupt leadership. If you desire to come here, apply to come here legally.
There are also many entering who are sworn enemies of the United States and have an agenda to destroy our free society. We should have closed all of our borders on September 12, 2001, and put a moratorium on immigration until we could get a handle on it.

Representatives like Flake make me despair for our country’s future. Gosh, I hope the people of Mesa wake up and replace Flake with Pearce.

I’m the only Democrat who has filed to run in the 6th C.D. — my moronic party did not have a candidate in 2004 and 2006 and I think we should make a token effort even in a hopeless district (just as think it’s bad when no Republican is on the ballot in a very Democratic district).
I have to say my views on immigration are pretty much the same as Mr. Flake’s.
That might be the most damning statement here, huh?
