“Coping” in opulence

Front and center in a six-inch photo on Page One of today’s newspaper is an outlandish puff-piece piece spotlighting Cindy Hensley McCain, resplendent in one of her wardrobe’s basic St. John knits.

Wittily titled Cindy McCain: Caring, campaigning and coping, demoted reporter Richard Ruelas tactfully places her previous plights at the caboose end of this journalistic cotton candy.

When describing the move from her North Central Phoenix property, she says health issues “prompted her to move out of the only home she ever knew,” to downsize. The saga of the Hensley family manor providing identical warmth for her own children as she enjoyed was the same reheated pap from the 2005 Architectural Digest article when the home was featured on the cover.

Missing from both accounts and known to anyone who regularly passed the renovation, was the fact that the home was completely rebuilt on the family parcel when Cindy, her husband and their family moved in.

“It was very important to me to share my roots with them,” said Cindy. Maybe she was referring to tree roots?

The McCain’s now live in a nearly 7000 sq. ft. multimillion dollar condominium penthouse on Camelback and 24th Street, which like all of their properties is solely in Cindy’s name. She is the savvy chairwoman of Hensley, the nation’s third-largest distributor of Anheuser-Busch products

Puff-pieces aside, today’s Rasmussen Reports Daily Presidential Tracking Poll tells the real story. Mike Huckabee (23%) and Rudy Giuliani (19%) are still leading nationally in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. The frontrunners are followed by Mitt Romney (15%), John McCain (12%) and Fred Thompson (9%) Ron Paul currently attracts 5% of Likely Republican Primary voters nationwide.

New Hampshire appears to be providing a reliable firewall for Romney. Today, new Rasmussen Reports data shows Romney with a fifteen point lead over McCain in the Granite State. On the Democratic side in New Hampshire, things look much different as Barack Hussein Obama leads Hillary Clinton by three percentage points.

At least the McCain’s  will have plenty of space in their roomy new quarters when they settle in back home after the election.

Funny to read about the “childhood home.” I live nearby and the talk at the time was that if one wall remains standing during a major renovation project, it is considered to be a a remodel instead of new construction. There are numerous financial benefits. One thing all of those of us in the central corridor know and that is this is NOT even close to being Cindy’s childhood home. Call it what it is: Cindy’s childhood lot where her parent’s home once stood.
As far as the pricey St. Johns, they pack well. Guys never do get that.

This is quite a touching story. What a team! These two deserve each other.

Is a saddle in the family room the latest in trendy decorating ? We don’t have horses, so maybe our dog’s leash will look cool draped over the sofa back? Just joking here. That’s the best I can do with this joke of a senator.

The article just proves that this couple doesn’t understand the issues of the rest of us who try to live on less that $50,000 a year. As much as the Senator claims to speak for the ordinary guy, he doesn’t get it.
