An insightful piece on John McCain and the Grand Canyon-sized rift the Arizona Republican and presumptive standard bearer has created within the Republican ranks.
Read Chuck Muth’s take on the deep divisions within the GOP and whether McCain is capable of mending them.

Rift, hell. It’s a virtual ocean of discontent. I’ve given quite a bit of thought to what McCain might do or say to bring me around. It finally occurred to me that there is nothing because he is such a practiced liar and has proven himself to be untrustworthy to a degree that the idea of him winning me over is long gone.
Of course, my vote against him won’t matter, since AZ will support the ‘hometown boy‘—even though he carpetbagged his way in.

I honestly do not know a Republican PC who intends to vote for McCain. That’s not indicative of a “rift.” but instead a chasm of enormous proportions. He’ll carry AZ but not with the votes of party insiders, most of whom despise him.

We are not talking about a small liar here who we could gloss over because the Democrat lies also. McCain’s lies are so atrocious that we will not believe anything he says….. Amnesty is not Amnesty,….. I get it, strong border enforcement first, then amnesty……. I’ll appoint conservative judges, but they will vote for Campaign Finance reform……I’m conservative because I say I’m conservative…….No one is allowed to talk about my record……
Actual conservatives could not look themselves in the mirror if they voted for McCain. The Republican elites gave us this guy. Maybe it was their intent all along to bring down the Party. Thank you Kyl, Flake, Shadegg etc. You knew best of all what he represented and you insisted on backing him. He and what you have done to the Party will be your legacy.
