CA considering defining pregnant women as ‘temporarily disabled’

Please, Arizona lawmakers: don’t emulate this lunacy from the Left Coast

Assemblyman Tony Strickland, whose previous legislative effort failed, said he still supports easing the strain on pregnant women. “Look, I’ve never had to carry around a 10-pound baby in my belly and walk every day,” he said. The legislation would apply to more than a half-million women who give birth every year in California.

Read the report from the Sacramento Bee.

A more rational view was expressed by the medical community. “We really want pregnant women to be active, to be moving, to be walking,” said Shannon Smith-Crowley of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ California chapter, which opposes AB 1940.

    Crazy? Maybe. Disabled? No way.

I worked until I delivered, and continued with my exercise program, swam and kept up my weekend biking. We have three children and was even able to get in and out of the car with them. Never felt disabled for a moment. Kids are like dogs. If they smell fear on a parent, they will try to run the show. My children have always known who was boss.

This is political correctness gone mad!

I’m seven months pregnant and have a two year old. I’ll bet I can run rings around those California idiots. What a bunch of fools. No wonder they call it the land of fruit and nuts.

This is absurd! Leave it to California. I wonder if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger thought Maria was ‘disabled’ when she was pregnant? Somehow I doubt it. I seem to recall her working at the time and looking great.
