A pattern emerges
It’s happened again. The buzz is that over the weekend, yet another district blew off the McCain slate of state convention delegates. If these losses keep piling up, the embarrassment factor becomes monumental for the GOP presumptive presidential candidate.
This time, district 6 precinct committeemen dealt a defeat to McCain’s picks. Of the 49 positions allotted to that district, only 8 of those elected were solely on his committed slate.
In the more moderate Southern Arizona district 26, the vote split was nearly even, but McCain forces were making more enemies than friends when paranoia caused them to leave the name of the secretary of the state GOP off their slate.
Conservatives keep hoping for an indication that John McCain hears their voices and concerns. They are not going to support either the Socialist or the Marxist. But in order to keep them from sitting on their hands, he is going to have to address their very real misgivings about him.
Conservative columnist and author, Dr. Thomas Sowell, stated it very well: “John McCain could never persuade me to vote for him. Only Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama can cause me to vote for McCain.”
April 14, 2008 at 5:50 pm
Perhaps they would rather not support someone who is an open borders panderer than hand him their votes and have him turn that into a mandate for his amnesty agenda. Personally, I won’t be taking that chance and will be sitting out this election- at least the presidential part of it.
April 14, 2008 at 5:58 pm
McCain needs to feel a degree of pressure from the right. He has disregarded us for too long. It’s time he took notice.
April 14, 2008 at 6:28 pm
There is nothing in McCain’s past actions or current campaign rhetoric that would leave anyone to believe that he would lead a conservative administration. Of course, if you care to believe the “Straight Talker” he is the most conservative, most pro-life, most fiscally conservative, most border enforcement first and most proud of his misspent youth candidate on the ticket.
If his last two campaign addresses were any example of what conservatives can expect, there will be a lot of voters with sore hands come November 7th. But it looks like liberals, RINOs and Democrats may carry McCain to victory as he redirects the Republican Party to the Democrat track. Won’t it be great to have two Democrat parties?
April 14, 2008 at 7:18 pm
McCain never has cared a whit about any thing or anyone within the Republican party. When he originally decided to run, I’ve read he had to be dissuaded from running as a Democrat. Not much has changed. All of his alliances have been built with liberals and he avoids the state party as though it was carrying the plague. This reaction (written about in this post) shows that the chickens are coming home to roost.
April 14, 2008 at 8:41 pm
A bit of embarrassment on the home front might humble McCain a bit–although I doubt it. Reason magazine, a national publication, picked up the post about his overwhelming defeat in his home district.

No one deserves the rebuke more than John McCain.
April 14, 2008 at 8:53 pm
And Ron Paul’s site also carried the local news from McCain’s district. The Arizona Republic is remaining very silent on this. Where is reporter Nowicki? I thought his task was to cover McCain. Isn’t this the real McCain—detested by party insiders at home?
I received this the other day when my brother-in-law, who lives out of state sent it to me and asked if I knew anything about it. I hooted!!
http://ronpaulblog.com/2008/04/10/so-thats-mccain-republican/
It’s great that the unrest among the GOP troops is being revealed and also that Seeing Red is getting national attention. My relative couldn’t believe that we are not all licking McCain’s boots out here. He was genuinely surprised when I told him that he is not in favor with conservatives. I told him to tell everyone within shouting distance!
April 14, 2008 at 10:43 pm
There is a new book out, “The Real McCain”. Look for it on Amazon and read the comments of those who have read it. I guess it gives an insight into who McCain is and what he represents. I have my order in. Cant wait to read about the Straight Talker from someone other than the MSM.
April 15, 2008 at 7:13 am
Those who think this arrogant RINO will listen to conservatives are kidding themselves. He loves the “Maverick” label because it gives him cover to offend with impunity. Count me as one who will not be casting a vote for McCain.
April 15, 2008 at 8:29 am
I’d be less than truthful if I didn’t admit it gives me great pleasure to see McPain getting trounced in the Arizona districts where state delegates are elected. He deserves this and more. The Republican political activists have had their fill of his egotistical antics and complete disregard of the state GOP over the years. The icing on the cake for most of us was his treacherous immigration policy–which amounted to amnesty and open borders. Look at who he brought onboard as his “Hispanic outreach director.” Juan Hernandez is as despicable as McCain. Hernandez has repeatedly stated his views as “Mexico First,” and “North America is just a region–there should be no borders to impede a free flow of people.”
http://michellemalkin.com/2008/01/25/john-mccains-open-borders-outreach-director-the-next-dhs-secretary/
This gives the best indication of what to expect from McCain. For this reason alone he will never have my vote.
By the way, could anyone tell me why a candidate for president of the United States needs a Hispanic outreach director? Do we have such outreach directors for other nationalities or ethnic groups? I thought all citizens, regardless of their heritage, are AMERICANS.

I sincerely appreciate the coverage this site provides. Where else would we get this district information?
April 15, 2008 at 11:39 am
The ld6 election was a real hoot! The head RINO district chairman managed to keep on campaigning all the way through the election process. He would refer to ballot candidate floor nominees as “Oh, here’s a new guest to our meeting” code phrase for “Don’t vote for this guy!” but of course, he would only pull that fast one when the nomination was made by a conservative. The ld6 meeting was a dispicable display for any American who appreciates fair, open and honest elections. This one was anything BUT! Of the 49 State Delegates up for election, the Conservative wing garnered a whopping 74% victory rate. Not the great 100% achieved by LD-11, but respectable when you consider LD-11’s Chairman ran an honest election and the ld6 rino chair ran a corrupt catastrophe. From parcing out official ld6 information (delegate candidtes) to hand picked PC’s and stonewalling the rest, to insisting the preprinted official ballot only consists of long-time committed hard working PC’s who deserve the vote over write-in candidates, this Chair really knows how to coordinate a crooked election. Congratulations ld6 conservatives for all you had to overcome to achieve your landslide victory. I just feel bad for the innocent districts yet to hold their delegate votes. They may not yet be on to the dirty tricks that are showing up at these mccain rallies, I mean Delegate Election meetings.

Mccain’t:
You don’t paint a pretty picture with the overview of your district election. I am also a precinct committeeman and our meeting is yet to be held. Reading what you encountered will keep me on my toes. I intend to send this post off to other PC’s in my district, so they will know what we could possibly expect. I find it deplorable that the McCain crew shows up to monitor the proceedings passing out their own slate of delegates to vote for, when they are not involved in the district where the vote is taking place.
McCain needs to realize that the grassroots activists of the party are the ones he needs to have on his side to persuade others. He has cut us off at the knees one time too many for many of us to trust him.

Truth Be Told:
Regarding LD 26’s meeting. Of the 36 people on the McCain slate, 34 were elected. One of the nominated people asked to drop out as his wife’s due date fell at the time of the state convention and the second declined nomination due to her inability to perform the physical activity required to attend. The state GOP secretary was elected. The post made an interesting story but is simply untrue.
David M. Smith GOP Chair, LD 26
April 15, 2008 at 5:07 pm
The room was filled with quite a few ‘new faces,’ Mr. Smith. The post was correct. Let’s see how many of the McCain slate actually make it to the upcoming state convention in Mesa.
The state GOP secretary was elected, but no thanks to the McCain people, who did not include her on their slate.
April 15, 2008 at 10:10 pm
More mccain Flops In LD 6 Fun! mccain’s minions told ld-6 rinos to get a slate together. With 49 total State Delegate slots to fill, only 26 rinos would muster up to the call. And 5 of those also showed up on the conservative’s slate!! 21 bona fide rinos out of 75 candidates.
The conservatives had no problem filling out their slate of 49 delegates and had to trim at the last minute. No wonder LD-6 Officers resorted to filthy campaign practices to try to save SOME face anyway. How are the rinos going to explain that they came through with only 8 measley rinos at the convention for Juan?
April 16, 2008 at 9:14 am
Chairman Smith is clearly trying to put a better blush on what actually took place.
April 16, 2008 at 10:09 am
Can someone please explain what difference this all makes? Arizona’s delegates are BOUND, so they have to vote for McCain whether they like him or not. Getting McCain folks on the slate doesn’t change the politics, it just rewards them with trips to the convention. Not sure why McCain’s folks are fighting over this.
April 16, 2008 at 11:04 am
Quit using the word RINO. It’s not fair to rhinoceroses.
April 16, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Among the difference. it all makes, John, is that the conservative delegates would be supportive of retaining the Reagan pro-life plank in the party platform. McCain has said he wants to return to the pre-1980 plank, which is pro-abortion. Watch and listen to him here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpGUiEWZDUI&feature=related
The delegates would also be in a position to articulate the concept of actually securing the border in this post 9/11 era. McCain’s director of Hispanic outreach, Juan Hernandez, has often said these are not countries with borders–merely “regions.” Conservatives cherish the United States of America and its founding documents and rich history. I would venture a bet that they all think this great land is more than just a vague “region.”
April 16, 2008 at 1:32 pm
John, I doubt that anyone is arguing that the often absent Senator McCain will win the nomination. In fact, it’s almost irritating to be in this struggle for a conservative platform while having to contend with all the McCain noise. I’ve heard John McCain now, I listened and I learned he is not going to try to maintain important conservative principals in our Platform. It’s up to the conservative Republican citizens to provide as much influence as possible for protecting the planks in the Platform that made us Republicans. Delegate Elections are of the utmost importance unless we are willing to just sign away the principals that attracted us in the first place.
All the rally and hoopla for the RINO choice for President is fine. I understand that. It’s an exciting time for that group. Others of us are working on matters at hand and that is the Platform. Those working for conservative representation in the Platform have been, and I expect will be manipulated out of objective Delegate Election meetings. The higher number of McCainiacs at conventions, the more in danger our Platform is. McCain is the nominee in my opinion. If I were a rino I would be glad and understand we got it won already and turn my attention to protecting conservative principals. But then, they are termed “in name only” for a reason.

John Q., The LD-11 site, truegop.org, does a great job of posting relevant and important material. Even their District Bylaws are on-line. LD-11 believes in transparency—they posted all their State Convention Delegate Candidates on their website as those names came into the District Officers. Compare that with LD-6 Officers who stonewalled and refused PC requests for exactly the same information. A free flow of legitimate and useful information is found at http://www.trugop.org, the LD-11 website. Contrast truegop.org with what you will find at azld6gop.org.
