Silencing Bardot

No First Amendment freedoms in France

French former film star Brigitte Bardot, now 73, has gone on trial for insulting Muslims. This marks the fifth time she has faced the charge of “inciting racial hatred” over her remarks about Islam and its followers.

Whatever happened to the freedoms the French once held so dear? Apparently, ils n’existent plus—they no longer exist.

What a shame that the French Revolution now appears to have been fought for naught.

La Marseillaise,” the French national anthem once stood as a symbol of liberty, as evidenced in this memorable scene from the film “Casablanca,” as the Nazis attempted to drown out the then-patriotic French.

  1. RA Says:

She was fined 15,000 euros - a fairly stiff penalty - for what the court considered a repeat offense. Apparently the “slur” was objecting to the takeover of France by Muslims. I’m sure her remarks were a great deal less incendiary than the mass car firebombings that occur in Muslim riots.

  2. Chuck Says:

For my money, Brigitte is more of a vixen as a political pugilist than she was in her heyday. Go Brigitte!!

  3. Vince Says:

This legal miscarriage is a tragedy. Where are the French principles?
Ms. Bardot was a beauty in her prime and a fiesty winner now.

  4. Justin Says:

Instead of fining this stalwart defender of French rights, she should be rewarded. The Muslim community is getting ‘rights ‘ they neither deserve or should have access to–all in the name of political correctness. It’s obscene and is happening here, as well.

  5. James Says:

Wow! She was one hot babe! Her spirit is still going strong, which I applaud her for. I read her comments, and she was right.

By the way, loved the clip from Casablanca!

  6. RA Says:

    See Bardot and you’ll agree
    “Purdah” would be a tragedy…

  7. State Senaor Jack Harper Says:

I think you are an idiot for putting that picture up on Cactus Alliance. If I wanted to see a picture of a nearly naked woman, I would go to your site directly. I do not appreciate it being on a conservative site that many Christians frequent.

  8. seeingredaz Says:

    Senator Harper:

Thank you for the kind words.

Seeing Red AZ has no association with Cactus Alliance, either directly or indirectly. They are a politically conservative aggregator and determine what sites they pick up. As you are aware, Seeing Red AZ is a politically conservative blog. We can only assume you know that as a reader of this site. since you have posted comments here previously.

Ms. Bardot is now 73 years old. We felt she was being mistreated in the name of political correctness and the French government’s cowering in the face of a growing Muslim population in that country.

A beautiful woman is a joy to behold. In this fifty-year-old photo, Bardot is wearing no less than you might see on any beach. Apparently you forego attending the art museum exhibitions since actual nudes are prominently portrayed in art and sculpture.

  9. Maggie Says:

Please tell me Sen. Harper is joking.

  10. Ajo Joe Says:

How does Sen. Harper square his quirky view of nudity (and Bardot is NOT nude here) with having nudist colony owner, Horst Kraus, as an officer of the Republican party?

If Kraus donated to his campaign, would Harper return the money? Does he insist that all elected conservatives who have accepted campaign donations from Kraus return it in the name of Christian “decency?” Somehow I doubt that will happen.

  11. Sideliner Says:

I checked the date on Sen. Harper’s comment, thinking it was an April Fool’s joke. I was wrong. Harper is the joke. With so much of importance that begs for attention, it is astonishing that he is focusing on this. I am also a Christian, Senator, and I see nothing wrong with the photo.

  12. Thomas Says:

    Sen. Harper:
I just found this. I’m sure you’ll prefer this photo of Ms. Bardot–as she looks today at age 73.

As a red-blooded, (and also a Christian man, although it mystifies me what that has to do with this) I’d like to remember her as she looked in the picture accompanying this post.
