This is what happens when liberal governors appoint judges

Unions win out over parental choice in education

In a 3 - 0 ruling, Div. II of the Arizona Court of Appeals in Tucson, has ruled that two voucher programs for foster and disabled children attending private schools violate the Arizona Constitution by using public money to assist private and religious schools.

The ruling reverses a trial judge’s decision which upheld the programs enacted in 2006.

The Arizona Education Association, a powerful teachers union, was part of a coalition of education and civil-rights groups that challenged the programs

“These programs provide aid to children and families, not to private schools,” said attorney Tim Keller of the Institute for Justice. “Pulling the rug out from under these children is not only appalling and tragic, it is a radical departure from Arizona constitutional and policy history.”

Judges on the panel were Peter J. Eckerstrom, Philip G. Espinosa and Garye L. Vasquez.

  1. Mr. Conservative Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Rae Waters have a part in this lawsuit being brought against both voucher programs ( Rae Waters is on the Kyrene School Board and is a candidate for an LD20 house seat - can you guess which party she’s in? )?

  2. Jay Bird Says:

Connect the dots…..Judge Eckerstom’s brother was the Pima County Democratic chairman who helped put Napolitano over the top in southern Arizona during her first run for governor. The judgeship his brother received was thought to be payback for Paul’s energy on her behalf. They are the sons of union teachers.

I lived in Tucson for years.

Thanks, Jay Bird and Mr. Conservative, for helping me to connect the dots here.

Remember not too long ago when not even Tom Horne could review Tucson school curriculums?

This isn’t the first bout of education policy insanity coming out of Tucson, and I’m sure it won’t be the last.

  4. Richard Says:

And what about the liberal governor who appointed judicial activist California Chief Justice Ronald George, who provided the deciding vote and wrote the recent opinion legalizing gay marriage?

You remember that notorious liberal…Ronald Reagan.

Thanks, Gipper! Your and Nancy’s many gay friends in California knew you were with us all along.

  5. Fooled Twice Says:

What exactly is “gay” about homosexuality, Richard? This is actually “same-sex” not “gay.”

And call it what you will, it is not marriage. This societal scam was accomplished by incrementalism and deceit. Anything the proponents claim they were denied could have been accomplished by a will and other legal documents, such as deeds. They knew that all along as they made their “case” What this is really about is MONEY. Other people’s money– such as group insurance rates for what are euphemistically called “partners.”

Remember when gay meant happy and a partner was someone who was a business associate?
