Trouble is, John McCain bears no resemblance to Charlton Heston
With the GOP hemorrhaging formerly secure congressional seats, the question becomes, can we retain the Arizona seats that are up for grabs during this unstable political season?
Painting a grim picture, Politico predicts substantial loses nationally.

The GOP has succeeded in alienating two of its core constituencies – fiscal conservatives and social conservatives. It can either choose to try to regain these or become a weak copy of the Democratic Party.
To retain its position the party HAS to decide to stand for something. It will not survive as a product solely defined by marketing appeal.

RA, we have taken a dive off the cliff. With McCain at the helm, the party is finished. I no longer identify myself as a Republican. i tell people I’m a Conservative.

Unfortunately, there is no marketing appeal, RA. If the party doesn’t hold any appeal for me as a lifelong Republican, how can it hope to recruit from among the rest of the population?

The tragic irony here is that our supposedly conservative congressmen and senators saw this coming years ago and rather that correct it, they got on board and expanded it. They knew what a nut case McCain was, but refused to oppose him, rather they anointed him and in doing so destroyed the Republican Party. Think of prop 200, Amnesty, Campaign Finance, Denied Access to Domestic Oil. Think of who the enablers were, and remember to thank them for destroying the country. Look at his list of local endorsers and remember their names for infamy purposes.

Hi Kate,
You list four items which enraged conservatives, but you forgot the latest outrage……McCain’s leading the Party against the Junk Science of Global Warming.
How will conservatives, with an once of character, muster the fortitude to pull the lever for McCain. I can’t even stand to hear or see him. I dread learning what he will come out with next. As I put my toddlers to bed every night, I offer a silent pray that the Lord will have mercy on us all.
What does it matter who of the two (McCain or Obama) destroys the country, the country will still be destroyed. Now that realization is really going to drive the conservatives to the polls…..NOT

Tom Cole, head of the NRCC, posts his first liberal blog on the Republican website and gets spanked by conservatives:

My fellow Arizonans, if you believe in spanking, get in there and take your turn!

Carrie:
You make frightening sense. Envisioning a young mother with such dread for the future breaks my heart—but I don’t disagree with you. I sincerely wish I did.
