The continuing drumbeat for illegals –now called “guests”
We are treated to yet another Sunday editorial on the need for “guest” workers. This one has meandered far afield from the usual editorial page placement and is bannered across the top of the Viewpoints section of the daily. It is bolstered by a pro and con on the topic by Congressman John Shadegg, an unwavering proponent of the scheme and State Senator Ron Gould, who compellingly speaks his opposition. The newspaper describes Gould as offering 15 hostile amendments to the state’s guest worker bill.
That gives the first clue where this is headed.
We recommend reading the article as an illuminating resource for what to expect from the pro-illegal advocates as well as articulating the undeniable necessity to actually secure our porous borders against this human flood.
But why stop when the editorial staff is on a roll? This offering from the same edition is titled, Top officials hinge careers on immigration.
Draw your own conclusions.

John Shadegg needs to wise up and stop carrying the water for McCain and Kyl. This is 2008, Congressman. The old bracero farm worker programs of sixty years ago are not applicable today.
Have you stopped at a construction site lately? How many English speaking American citizen workers did you encounter? If you think Mexicans are coming across as temporary workers and want to return home to poverty and deplorable conditions, think again. They want to stay!
You can say that you would want to do the same but so do most of the people living in third world countries. It is impossible to open America’s doors to them all.
You are either being shortsighted or pandering for Hispanic votes. If it is the latter, you will not win mine. My mother was born in Mexico. I am an American. No hyphen.

Thank you, Sen. Gould. You almost make me wish I lived in Lake Havasu.

One thing about Representative Shadegg’s guest worker support op ed piece…. WE DON”T BELIEVE YOU!!! You are all a bunch of liars as far as illegal immigration is concerned, and most else as far as that goes. We know how you twist your words to mislead people……Amnesty is not Amnesty because they pay a fine. After promising & passing legislation to build the Hunter fence, you pulled the funds. How stupid do you think we are? You are trying to pull another one Shadegg. We are not extremist as you insist. We just want the law enforced which you refuse to do. You and your candidate McCain are planning to do us in again.

Thank God for Senator Gould. If only our Congressional Delegation had their heads screwed on as straight, and cared about representing their constituency as much as they care about carrying McCain’s cup of lunacy and pandering to the illegal aliens.

Right now there’s a huge national push by the Powers That Be to make amnesty happen and to open up the US (already the most accessible and open nation in the world). It’s not just a local issue or even just a US-Mexico issue anymore. The WSJ in particular has been running a series of editorials touting the benefits of various guest worker programs, but they outdid themselves when Jason Riley (on the editorial staff) published a book arguing for open borders and used the WSJ as a megaphone to pronounce his arguably treasonous views. And I used to think I got real news coverage from the WSJ…
Where there is US agency oversight, increases have occurred already (notably in F-1 durations) - without benefit of public referendum. When and where local agencies have identified abuses of skilled immigration programs (Maine), local investigations have been relegated to USCIS and the DoL - and curiously left hanging.
Is our nation really run by people who are loonier than a bag of Canadian dollars?

I am truly baffled and very distressed by Congressman Shadegg. He has dropped like a rock in my esteem. Guest workers equal open borders. Open borders equal amnesty. He has been hypnotized by the McCain and Kyl rhetoric. Please come back to us John Shadegg.

Don’t waste your time hoping for the return of John Shadegg. He has become part of the problem. I’ve never been a fan of term limits, since I believe they exist in the voting booth (or kitchen table for many of us.) Although I still hold to that view, I can see why there are those who support limitations. Even the best go awry after an extended stint in DC.

John Shadegg must be receiving substantial contributions from the profiteers of illegal immigration. Congressman Shadegg has sold us out. The readers here know this, but I am going to make the comment anyway. The Guest Worker skeem was hatched after HB 2779 became law as the Fair and Legal Employment Act (aka Employer Sanctions). So, the Guest Worker bill is not even intended as any kind of solution to our Illegal Alien problem. It is intended as a solution to THEIR employer sanctions problem! WE ALREADY TOOK CARE OF THINGS HERE MR. SHADEGG WITH HB 2779. GET OUT OF OFFICE AND TAKE YOUR NON-HELP WITH YOU!!

You are so right James. John, Jon & John with Jeff are the open borders brain trust. They won’t give up on this till it is accomplished and to hell with what the citizens want.

The fact that we continue to fight this battle despite overwhelming support for ANY anti illegal legislation that has come onto the ballot in this state and the overwhelming response from Americans as a whole to stop amnesty legislation means that our elected officials simply lie to us- constantly. Bottom line- if they don’t do EXACTLY what we want in terms of illegal immigration, they need to get tossed out of office.
AND WE NEED TO DO IT!

I am with you Sherri. Throw the bums out, all of them. They have played us for fools once too often.
