Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) gets it. They are getting tougher with illegals.
And federal district judge Mark W. Bennett in response to the defense attorney’s pleas on behalf of the illegal aliens, deserves kudos for this statement:
“I don’t doubt for a moment that you are good, hard-working people who have done what you did to help your families,” Judge Bennett told the illegals arrested at a recent raid on the Agriprocessors plant in Postville, Iowa. “Unfortunately for you, you committed a violation of federal law.”
Bennett, a former ACLU lawyer and Clinton appointee, then sentenced 270 illegal aliens using stolen and counterfeit documents to five months in prison.
Will wonders never cease?

I’m impressed that this judge was both a Clinton appointee and an ACLU attorney. Like, Reagan, he seems to have seen the light!

PS I heard you had a great post up about a law firm that was conducting seminars on how not to hire American workers. Can you direct me to it?

Isn’t it also against the law to enter the country illegally while destroying our medical, education, welfare, and prison systems not to mention importing a culture of corruption. I wonder if our politicians will ever really “get it ” or will they just continue to lie to us. Amnesty McCain is planning his attack on America all over again. Watch for it. He is telegraphing now. He even has Shadegg softening us up with “we must have a guest worker program” rhetoric. SEAL THE DAMN BORDER YOU JERKS!!! before you give us any mention of anything else. WE DON’T BELIEVE YOU. We remember what KYL pulled.

Watchful1 – Go to the section marked “Outrage” and skim down the headlines of articles posted there – the article was entitled “Guest Worker Plan?” and was posted May 13, 2008.
This is actually an older news item – if memory serves it first made waves over a year ago. There’s a fair amount of coverage on this posted to the Web as well as relevant YouTube links featuring footage from some of these seminars offered by Cohen and Grigsby.
You might also try looking up http://www.zazona.com for coverage of related issues (the H-1B visa program in particular, although other related topics are covered).

Just when I think nothing is going right with the lack of border enforcement and our nation’s vulnerability, I read something like this that gives a glimmer of hope that someone understands the seriousness of the issue. Maybe the prison sentences will make the illegals think twice about returning to the U.S. Then again, they are probably glad to get three squares and a bed, shower and clean clothes!

Prison time combined with a lack of jobs is a strong catalyst. However, I am still very interested in companies that claim to be using E-Verify and yet demand that their human resource staff speak Spanish. There are more and more in the Valley who no longer do their own advertising, but use third party shills to find them Hispanic HR candidates, effectively shutting seasoned non-Spanish speaking HR professionals out of job opportunities. And why? Because the workforces are almost completely illegal- and the companies know it. It’s time to make ICE aware of any employer who does this and turn up the heat on this part of the illegal equation. There are still tons of employers hiring illegals: landscaping, hotels, janitorial, painting, drywall, construction, cement, pool construction, warehousing, food service. We have a long way to go to get rid of them all- and turning in the employers is part of the puzzle.
