A great reason to send more American jobs to India

The revered and popular Hindu monkey god Hanuman, known for his strength and valor, has been named official chairman of the Sardar Bhagat Singh College of Technology and Management in northern India, according to a school spokesman and reported by FOX News.

“When we were looking for a chairman for our institution, we scanned many big names in the field of technology and management. Ultimately, we settled for Lord Hanuman, as none was bigger than him,” said Vivek Kangdim the school’s vice chairman.

Visitors to his office must removed their shoes before entering.

The college, which opened last year, awards bachelor’s degrees in engineering and management.

And we think things are bad here? All we do is overpay the ASU president. Plus we can keep our shoes on if we were ever to meet.

  2. Thomas Says:

And these are the folks we think are so superior for their business acumen and mathematical skills? It pays to have additional information on where these degrees come from.
Lord Hanuman sounds like a titled royal. Who knew he was both a monkey god and college chairman?

  3. SherriAZ Says:

Don’t we have the same thing at ASU?

  4. RA Says:

Certainly shows what kind of business is being conducted there. Thomas is right about this in both his comments.

By the way, both Obama and McCain support expansion of the H-1B program. Contrary to some pols’ beliefs and pro-offshoring propaganda, H-1B DOES IN FACT promote offshore outsourcing - seven of the top 10 recipients by numbers of H-1B visas last year were Indian outsourcing firms. In India H-1B is even called “the outsourcing visa” now.

Also the deadline is today for (retroactive) public comments on the OPT (Optional Practical Training) visa increase from 12 to 29 months, that DHS unilaterally deployed without first making their proposal public or putting the increase to Congressional vote. In effect this is a unilateral expansion of the foreign student/F-1/H-1B programs. Please consider writing a letter to your Congressman about this pre-emptive strike against American workers and students conducted without their political representation, and the extremely limited response window of two + weeks following the announcement.

  5. Sameer Parekh Says:

RA: H1-B visas are the exact opposite of outsourcing. Outsourcing means hiring people who live overseas. If we can’t get H1-B visas so the people we want to hire are allowed into the US, then we will hire them overseas. No wonder we need to hire people who worship the monkey god. People who already live here are fools like you.

  6. Jonathan Says:

RA: Right as usual. I’d contact my Congressman, but would get the same form letter I always get. Do you have better luck, RA?

  7. RA Says:

Jonathan - I must admit I do not have any more luck than you do, but I like to think physical letters are somewhat harder for the pols to deal with than an open-and-shut Internet forum like the one used for public comments on the OPT extension.

As for the accusations of inaccuracy made by Sameer, here are two quotes:

“It is not just critics like Mr. Hira who point to the crucial role that the H-1B visa program plays in the fast-growing global outsourcing industry. “It has become the outsourcing visa,” said Kamal Nath, the commerce minister of India.” (from “Parsing the Truths About Visas for Tech Workers” By Steve Lohr, New York Times, April 15, 2007).

List of Top 10 by Number H-1B Recipient Firms:
“Rank Firm Number of H-1B Visas Granted
    1 INFOSYS TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED 4,559
    2 WIPRO LIMITED 2,567
3 SATYAM COMPUTER SERVICES LTD 1,396
4 COGNIZANT TECH SOLUTIONS US CORP 962
    5 MICROSOFT CORP 959
6 TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES LIMITED 797
7 PATNI COMPUTER SYSTEMS INC 477
8 US TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES LLC 416
    9 I-FLEX SOLUTIONS INC 374
    10 INTEL CORPORATION 369″

(from “Who Got H-1B Petitions Approved Last Year? Look at the List” by Marianne Kolbasuk McGee, InformationWeek, April 2, 2008). Only two of these are actually US companies, and eight are Indian offshore outsourcing firms.

  8. Vince Says:

Excellent information, as usual, RA. You keep me updated. Thanks.
