We are all “God’s children,” McCain tells La Raza
Addressing a crowd of 2,000 attending the La Raza (“The Race”) convention in San Diego, John McCain did what he does best before Hispanic groups: groveled. It does him little good, since the Latino vote is mostly with Obama, leaving a mere 27 percent of their likely voter scraps for McCain.
But hard facts don’t stop him. He promised the ethnocentric group that he will address the issue of illegal immigration in a “humane and compassionate fashion,” calling it his “top priority.”
During a time of war, with soaring gas and food prices and multitudes losing their homes to foreclosure, it seems there could be higher priorities for a presidential candidate.
He pledged that he remains “committed to fair, practical and comprehensive immigration reform,”
Remember the amnesty scheme by the same name that fell to defeat after American citizens unleashed their fury as never before? McCain intends to resurrect it. His new message is, “We will secure the border first.” First before what, Senator?
McCain has often addressed Hispanic immigration advocacy groups, including the League of United Latin American Citizens and the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, using more implied language rather than the candid vow to advance McCain-Kennedy he gave to La Raza.
He made a point of thanking La Raza’s former CEO Raul Yzaguirre, Hillary Clinton’s lead immigration adviser, for “the privilege of over twenty years of friendship and counsel he has so generously given me.” Add to the mix McCain’s own Hispanic Outreach director, Juan Hernandez who says we are not countries, merely regions, and you see where we are headed.
Responding to those who chided him for inaction regarding desert deaths of illegals entering the U.S. McCain decried the deaths as a “failure of the federal government to exercise its responsibilities.” The obvious answer would have been: To ensure their safety, Mexican citizens should stay home.
Meanwhile in an unprecedented drop to single digits, just 9% of voters gave the Democrat-controlled Congress good or excellent rating. This dismal ranking is a first in tracking history.
Yet McCain is keen to remind us of his cross-over alliances. Conservative Republicans would prefer he remember us.
Read the San Diego coverage of the La Raza convention here. The North County Times also provides this video where he receives rousing applause for telling the crowd he is from Arizona “where Spanish was spoken before English.”
McCain has made a career of presenting himself as a ‘straight talker’ but remains unable to speak to anyone without tainting the truth. He knew his speech to this racist group would be closely watched, and as usual is trying to do a fancy two step in which he gives a bit of his forked tongue to American citizens as well as to the open-borders, amnesty advocates. Who is he fooling? Not me, that’s for sure! I have started referring to him as McSnake.
One of my Mexican friends calls this “Hispandering!”
We might all be “God’s children,” but even God gave us laws and expected us to live by them.
What a jackass McCain is. This blatant pandering is beyond offensive.
Señor Juan McCain is the perfect name for this pandering fool. What I don’t understand is his desire to put the concerns of Mexico and its citizens above those of United States citizens. Whenever I think I have no choice but to vote for him, I read or hear his comments that are clearly addressing amnesty for illegals and opening the floodgates to more, and I know that casting a ballot for this man is beyond what I am capable of doing. I detest Obama, but the only difference I see between them is that one actually has a “D” after his name and the other pretends to be a Republican.
I noted with some degree of amusement that the constantly drooling, McCain sycophantic site didn’t post any of the feeds on this shameful and ill advised event. Makes me think that even Big Boy and Mr. Fig Leaf (I hope!) have more sense they we might have credited them with. Even THEY have a breaking point, eh?
This is directly from his speech:
“Let me address one other issue important to all of us. As you know, I and many other colleagues twice attempted to pass comprehensive immigration legislation to fix our broken borders; ensure respect for the laws of this country; recognize the important economic contribution of immigrant laborers; apprehend those who came here illegally to commit crimes; and deal practically and humanely with those who came here, as my distant ancestors did, to build a better, safer life for their families, without excusing the fact they came here illegally or granting them privileges before those who have been waiting their turn outside the country. Many Americans did not believe us when we said we would secure our borders, and so we failed in our efforts. I don’t want to fail again to achieve comprehensive immigration reform. We must prove we have the resources to secure our borders and use them, while respecting the dignity and rights of citizens and legal residents of the United States. When we have achieved our border security goal, we must enact and implement the other parts of practical, fair and necessary immigration policy. We have economic and humanitarian responsibilities as well, and they require no less dedication from us in meeting them.”
It’s a good bet McCain’s ancestors didn’t sneak into this country. What the hell is he talking about? This man is an ass!
Obama has beat him at his own game of currying favor with the amnesty /open border Latino groups. Isn’t it telling that McCain’s numbers are in the tank after all these years of playing suck-up to them? He would have done much better courting Republicans instead. That’s too difficult for him to do, of course, since he’s a liberal at heart. Don’t forget, he wanted to run as a Democrat during his first congressional race and was discouraged from doing so by the kingmakers at the time. At his core, that’s who he really is.
Mcamnesty cannot stomach working for the conservative vote. This is too sad. He’s beating his head against the wall working for the obama vote and ignoring the conservatives. Chris Simcox said on last week’s Arizona Right Report that he invited mccain and obama to address the border security crowd. Of course, sirs obama and mccamnesty have no interest in meeting with border security advocates. How telling. mccain pandering to la raza instead of courting patriotic Americans. Disgusting and crazy. We Republicans have a LOSER nominee. He is not going to woo obama voters as he is trying to do and he is ignoring the conservative vote. AND mcamnesty will destroy our conservative platform in the process. Cheered on by the rino faction all the way. Very sad times.
