Vote NO on Prop. 202
Republic columnist Robert Robb writes a compelling opinion piece on the deceptively named Stop Illegal Hiring, on the upcoming ballot as Proposition 202.
His editorial is accurately titled, A dishonest push against hiring law.
Robb bets the business community will not fool the voters with this effort. We’d like to agree. However, as he rightly points out, “getting that word out requires money, and it’s not clear how much the opposition will raise.”
Along with his prediction that Proposition 202 “should be easily defeated,” Robb can’t resist taking a swipe in describing the sponsor of the current law. He writes, “illegal-immigration scourge Russell Pearce has described it as ‘employer amnesty,’ and this time, he’s not being hyperbolic.”
Once again Robb states his case for implementation of a guest worker program, with which we disagree. Until the Fourteenth Amendment is overhauled to terminate the necessary post-Civil War practice of granting birthright citizenship to children born to non-citizens, (in that case, Africa-born slaves) such a program is an unworkable solution to this massive problem.
But Robb wears his Libertarian clothing with a gentleman’s flair, keeping his consistent vantage point in that regard from being a surprise.
That he calls Andrew Pacheco’s effort “dishonest,” is more than we have come to expect from the newspaper for which he works. For that we are grateful.
Check out the megabucks, going to Nathan Sproul and his renamed Lincoln Strategy Group, which employs Andrew Pacheco’s wife, Jessica.
Wonder where all that money is coming from?
Come on Seeing Red, you know where the funding is coming from. The Christian hypocrite, Mac Magruder (he of the McDonald’s Illegal Alien and Homosexual Agenda supporting fame) have enlisted his cheap labor buddies into financing this fraud.
The audacity of this man is incomprehensible. In his statement of support for his proposition sent out from the Secretary of State’s office, Magruder states that some businesses are using illegal hiring practices and illegals are using stolen IDs. He then states that AZ needs to get tough on the practice of illegal hiring and that AZ has a haphazard way to confront illegal immigration. What absolute BUNK from the BUNKO ARTIST MAGRUDER.
He knows quite well that AZ already has the most effective law in the nation to fight illegal hiring because he financed the fight against the implementation of this law in the legislature and through the courts for the ENTIRE last year. He also vowed to defeat any legislator or candidate who supported this legislation. Thus the well-financed and un-Christian campaigns against Representative Pearce and Candidate Seel.
What Magruder spews are pure unadulterated lies. How this man has the nerve to show his face in public is beyond me. And I understand he leads a businessman’s Bible Study Group. What a Farce! What Hokum. Elmer Gantry all over again!!
Alice, you sound a bit upset. But believe me, I understand. I happen to agree with your sentiments about Big Mac Magruder and his agenda. I also think Robert Robb was pretty nearly right on his assessment of Prop. 202. He was straightforward enough to call it “dishonest,” which flies with me. It is that and more. This should be defeated, but the money angle Robb mentions does have a major role to play. I hope the anti-202 folks can hold back the heavy hitter hordes of open border proponents with big bank accounts. This is serious business.
Like the Seeing Red poster, I believe that the “guest” worker plan is no plan at all as long as the guests have babies that are instant American citizens. It is the elephant in the roon that no one wants to address in this politically correct world in which we live.
Alice…
I don’t think Jesus cares who flips burgers in the back of the restaurant. In fact, love thy neighbor is more like what Jesus would say. To call someone unChristian, is unChristian.
On the policy side, I do agree with you that the people and courts have spoken, so the law must be respected. If the people choose to vote for 202 , then we need to respect that decision as well.
The economy is getting so bad now that this illegal immigration problem will self correct. Look at the building trades, no one is building homes. The other areas ripe with undocumenteds such as restaurants, tourism and landscaping are all suffering as people tighten their wallets. I don’t know about you, but a 7 dollar happy meal is not in my future. Let the market work this out..
Magruder failed miserably using all his influence, and money the legal, honest way. He now reverts to his natural dishonest nature as in an old western movie where the bad guy could not buy the widows property legitimately so resorted to cheating her our of her land through fraud, deceit and theft. Roy Rogers, Hopalong Cassidy, and Gene Autry where are you? We need you to fight the evil Mac Magruder and his evil lieutenants, Andrew Pacheco and Nathan Sproul.
Everyone wear your white hats come voting time and defeat Dastardly Mac Magruder in his attempt to enrich himself even more through the loss of our country by an invasion from Mexico…..And make your own vow to never eat again at McDonalds.
nightcrawler, I disagree! Jesus would care, because they are liars! They lie about their citizenship to obtain the job and must continue to lie, to stay in this country. I believe Jesus would have advised them to stay home and fix their country!
As for Mac Magruder, let him waste as much money as he wants! Arizonans aren’t as stupid as he would like to believe! Those of us out fighting this daily will see to it that those not yet educated about prop 202, will be soon! Look for our yard signs going up every day!

All anyone has to do is look at who is behind Prop 202 to see who this is going to benefit… the people who have and will use cheap illegal labor. This prop was brought about by people in the fast food industry, argricultural industry, lanscaping and chambers of commerce. They tried to stop our employer sanctions law in court several times and failed… even before a 9th circuit judge! Now they are counting on fooling people into voting their way. They called this prop ‘Stop Illegal Hiring’ for one reason only. They know that the majority of Arizona voters want illegal hiring stopped. They are counting on the voters to see the title, believe it and vote yes for it because that’s what they want. They are counting on voters NOT looking at what Prop 202 REALLY is and does. It’s a lie that will destroy our current sanctions law and make it easier for people to hire illegals without fear of any prosecution.
Sure, Prop 202 has ’stiffer penalities’ for employers but stiffer penalties do NO GOOD when they can’t be enforced. Prop 202 makes enforcement IMPOSSIBLE!
If you want to put an end to illegal immigration and the loss of American jobs to illegal aliens, please, VOTE NO ON 202.
