Stench of partisan politics permeates classrooms AGAIN
A Wisconsin mother is furious that her tax dollars helped buy middle-school textbooks that include passages from Barack Obama’s speech at the 2004 Democrat National Convention, while omitting any mention of John McCain. At the time, Obama was running for U.S. Senate in Illinois.
The 20-page section, opens with a student discussion of “What Makes You Proud?” and ends with a portion of Obama’s Democrat convention speech, “Out of Many, One,” along with a photo of him, surrounded by numerous Obama placards.
Issuing a written statement, the school responded: “The Racine Unified School District DOES NOT endorse any candidate or political party. The choice of this selection was to provide a contemporary and multicultural figure to explore the unit on community.”
Six teachers and three district staff members chose the textbook, according to the district spokeswoman, as covered in this FOX News report.
“The Racine Unified School District is a multicultural school district with 49 percent of our student body comprising students of color,” the school said. “Identifying materials that reflect our student population is a priority.”
The irate mother, a registered Independent, said any mention of Obama should have included passages from other politicians, such as McCain.
“McCain is a prisoner of war — that’s a story in itself,” she said. “Or Dick Cheney’s wife has written children’s stories. Was that in any of their books?” But she said she’d prefer not to see any politicians in the English text book purchased with taxpayer dollars.
Four years ago the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that “hundreds of public schoolchildren, some as young as 11, were taken out of regular classes to canvass neighborhoods in Milwaukee, Madison and Racine in a get-out-the-vote effort organized by the [reliably liberal] Wisconsin Citizen Action Fund – a group whose umbrella organization endorsed John Kerry for president.”
The coalition fallaciously called the effort “non-partisan,” although the group targeted minority neighborhoods and those with historically low voter turnout – in overwhelmingly Democratic areas.
The group self-describes as the “lead organization” for Health Care for America Now in Wisconsin…..joined with more than twenty statewide progressive organizations.”
There’s that pesky Dem code word, “progressive,” again. The word “liberal” has such a negative connotation, even liberals run from it.

So now the education establishment gears its educational materials to students based on their race? That’s a fascinating concept. Shall we now omit mention of America’s Founders, presidents, and the grand accomplishments throughout Western civilization? Are these revisionists advocating that History, literature, science and art must now be reflective of the majority in ethnic minority school districts? More NEA liberalism at work.

More dumbing down of American students as the teacher’s unions and government schools project their leftward bent onto our children.

Is it any wonder vouchers, charter schools and home-schooling are flourishing?

If my children were school age, it would be a cold day in hell before I’d send them to a public school. I am a product of Arizona public schools, but they have shifted their focus since those days. I saw changes I disliked when my children were in elementary school. High school was worse, where my eldest was ridiculed by both teacher and classmates for supporting a Republican for president during class polling. I imagine the classroom would be intolerable today.

God bless the parents who stand up to liberal schools and say “enough”. It’s a hardship when a family homeschools- I know, we did it for many years- but it’s worth it when it is feasible. When not, parents need to check out charter schools and private schools. Schools have been tilting liberal for many years and it’s about to get a whole lot worse. Today you can’t ask a question of “the messiah” without having your life shredded in the media. When and if he’s elected, what will it be? Jail time?
