Your legislators hard at work, taking a dive — we name names

  1. Hunter Says:

Since it takes a majority of all the members to pass a bill, the representatives who walked out before this vote were voting NO without actually publicly committing themselves to that position. They are trying to vote NO without being held accountable for voting NO. In many respects, they have less integrity than those who stayed to actually vote NO.

  2. Ajo Joe Says:

Less integrity? They have NONE! My legislator will never get my vote again!

  3. Scott Says:

You should have labeled this the List of Shame.

What a sad commentary on our elected (so called) representatives. They sure don’t represent me! They also don’t want to step up to the plate and act responsibly when it comes to putting teeth in law enforcement efforts to provide security to the people whose votes they want come election time.

I believe Ajo got it right when he says he doesn’t intend to give his vote to such weasels.

  4. Rep. Daniel Patterson Says:

Due to a family responsibility I was gone before this bill came up early this AM.

But let me be clear, I would’ve voted no.

    Good day,
    Rep. Patterson (LD29-Tucson)

  5. Chicka Boom Says:

Rep. Adam Driggs is an immigration lawyer. I’ll bet a good meal in a fine restaurant that his clients aren’t coming from England and France. He and his partner brother advertize that they speak Spanish.

This guy has a conflict of interest on too many issues and should get outta Dodge.

  6. Sam Says:

Directly from the Driggs law firm:

“Because we limit our practice exclusively to the area of U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Law, we are able to concentrate and keep pace with rapidly changing immigration laws.  From concept, to strategy, to completion, our attorneys personally handle all aspects of each and every case.

Our attorneys are licensed to handle immigration matters in ALL 50 STATES and can serve your U.S. immigration needs regardless of where you are located in the United States or around the world

Our attorneys are fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, and are members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association.”

You might notice that French and English are not the highlighted languages, ChickaBoom.

BTW, It looks like the website has been altered, but I did find this and the address and phone number.

  7. Army of One Says:

The session adjourned at 7:32 this morning, Rep. Patterson. As a Tucson legislator with a commitment to finish your duties on behalf of your constituents, I wonder what you would have done if the session extended another day and this morning was “another day at the office.” Sorry, sir, but your commitment was here, regardless of how you would have voted. As a Democrat, its clear how you would have gone on that bill, but that’s not the issue. Fulfilling your duty is. If you were a surgeon, would you have left the patient on the operating table?

  8. CopperDome Says:

Your premise, as far as expecting legislators to stick around and finish their work, is right on the money. The Senate managed to hang onto all but 3 of its members until sine die at 7:30AM. The House only had 41 members (28 or 29 Republicans) for the final bills it voted.

A few minor corrections/observations are necessary for your accountability list, though.

John Nelson was a “NV” not a “No.” He stayed until the bitter end, but was on and off the floor all night/morning.

Lucy Mason has a badly injured foot (from a fall on the stairs at the capitol) and stayed pretty late, but was in a lot of pain from sitting so long. I’m not her biggest fan, but she probably should get a little slack under the circumstances.

As for McComish & Tobin, they are both in leadership and part of their job is to look out for their members. They were originally “Yes” votes, but changed at the last minute, presumably to preserve the possibility of reconsideration in case a couple more Republicans showed up. Everyone was exhausted, so I can understand that they both did it, not noticing that the other had done so. Nothing in their voting record would indicate that they would not have supported the bill if the votes to pass it had been there.

Voting records are important, but so is context.

  9. Sherriaz Says:

No surprise that many of these legislators place pandering to the Hispanics in their districts ( illegal included since many of them are already voting in our elections )over protecting the sovereignty of this country. They are betting that amnesty passes and want those votes.

Toughening our existing laws further would have sent another message to illegals: Arizona does not welcome you nor want you. Hopefully the Republicans will be taken to task ( there is no hope for the Dem weasels ) and this legislation can be re-introduced with a better outcome.

  10. Joe Kaforney Says:

Sam, Why are you picking on Adam Driggs? His Democrat district mate was AWOL also. Are you only critical of Democrats in drag?

  11. Carl in LD19 Says:

I called Crandall’s office and essentially stated that if Senator Pearce is laying it on the line, Crandall has an obligation to support the enforcement of our laws and eliminating sanctuary cities. Pearce does all the heavy lifting and Crandall supposedly had to catch a flight that wasn’t an emergency. So much for Rep. Crandall doing the right thing in this instance. I guess since I’m not a PC in the district any longer (due to my disgust with the Republican party) maybe I’m not a big deal. I am sick of so called conservative Republicans selling out the conservatives willing to stand up and be counted.

  12. Cindy, LD11 Says:

Whatever Rep. Driggs descides to do next year (Senate or House seat), I’ll be there cheering for him to return to his law practice full time. He’s worthless to us in LD 11 if he takes a dive under pressure.

Time to start begging Don Hesselbrock to come back into the fray. He should have beat Driggs in the first place by skill and knowledge alone. Settling for second best has actually cost us plenty.
But it’s tough to beat Dems in LD 11 when they get McCain’s, Shadegg’s and Kyl’s back room support. This is one that never did pass the smell test.

    • LiberalWatcher Says:

Cindy, I don’t think Hasselbrock can win. I’m hoping Jon Altmann takes a second look at the House – if it weren’t for a ton a Dem cash that blew into that race, he would have won – he missed it by 1%. Liberal Eric Meyer who has the seat is not a Mark DeSimone (the former Dem there).

  13. Tempe Tom Says:

Doug Quelland surprised me. I felt bad for his Clean Elections troubles. Not anymore. Good riddance!

  14. Dist.10 PC Says:

    Tempe Tom:
I too felt sorry for Quelland and thought he got a raw deal. I have since heard differently from an insider who had the complete story. Quelland talks a good game, and sure had me conned.

I’m calling ALL of these legislator’s offices today and letting them know what I think about the shameful slinks who ducked out on this important vote.

These are all HOUSE members: Rich Crandall, Adam Driggs, Doug Quelland, Lucy Mason, Nancy Barto and Bill Konopnicki.

Driggs and Konopnicki actually make their living (away from the legislative gig) off of illegals.

These two SENATE Republicans who voted “no” are worthy of contempt, but at least they stayed and showed their true colors by voting with the Dems:
    Carolyn Allen and John Nelson.

    The phone numbers are:
    602 926-4221 HOUSE
    602 926-3559 SENATE
    Toll free statewide: 1-800 353-8404

    • LiberalWatcher Says:

Enough of the lies already! Adam Driggs is an immigration law attorney, not an illegal alien attorney. Look up the definitions – immigration attorneys handle cases for people who got here LEGALLY, not walked in during the darkness of night or via a coyote van.
Driggs has been a good fiscal conservative – if we keep shooting down good guys, the Dems are driving in all over us R’s.

  15. Lindsay W Says:

Thank you for my 2010 Voter’s Guide! I know who I will be working to NOT reelect. Nancy Barto just made Ray Barnes look like the best Senate candidate in history!

Nancy Barto is counting on you open borders RINOS for 2010. Or, take a few days off and Nancy can hire some immigrants for another job “Americans refuse to do.”

  16. Doc Says:

HB2127-required voting by legislators with salary loss. Wonder how THIS bill did…When calling these legislators, ask them about it. I’ve been a fan of Mason, & had a 4′x4′ sign in my front yard for months for Andy Tobin! I’m sorry about Mason’s foot But she either was a no show or a NO VOTE on several issues. How does an AMERICAN vote NO for this…unless some “richard knoggin” added some sh!t to the bill that made it not so good.

As to their extended session, if they’d ALL quit acting like Kindergartners, & start acting like & remembering that they are…OUR LEGISLATORS, they wouldn’t have 24 hour long sessions. Then again, they ALL knew what th’ game was when they signed up to play!
