Gov. Palin announces no second term, no ‘lame duck’ session
In a surprise announcement Gov. Sarah Palin says she will not seek a second term as Governor of the State of Alaska and will relegate the power of governor to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell in order to serve Alaska’s best interests. Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will move into Parnell’s current role.
Gov. Palin’s entire speech can be read here.
The transfer of power will occur following the Governor’s picnic in Fairbanks on July 26. At that point in time, Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell will be sworn in and Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will assume his role as Lieutenant Governor. Governor Palin will spend July 4th in Juneau.

Wow! This is certainly unexpected. Maybe this move is to give her time to focus on a bid for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if she beat old McCain at his own game?

I see she didn’t take Jonah Goldberg’s advice:

I spent a July 4th in Juneau – about 12 years ago – it was a beautiful day and a nice town – :)

I’m not sure that she can beat Obama and I don’t want another McCain fiasco. Whoever gets the nomination has to be strong enough to handle the mess that BHO is making for our country. With all the undeserved derision that Palin has gone through, I think she is becoming too much of a caricature. I really like her, but I don’t think she can carry the country as the Presidential candidate. I think, right now at least, that Mitt would be stronger. We’ve already put a Muslim in the Oval Office- a Mormon should be a piece of cake.

My concern is if she has aspirations for running for another office, the people of her state will remember her as one who bailed out before concluding the job they elected her to do. It’s like a doctor deciding he wants to play golf while his patient is on the operating table. You finish what you are doing before moving on. This was not a well thought out move for Gov. Palin. With a plan like this, I’d say her political career is over.

No one can accurately predict what the future holds for her. However, in the Presidential election last fall she held predilection (preference) over McCain by the majority of those who voted the Republican ticket. Me included!!!
