The Goldwater Institute has sent out invitations for its upcoming event featuring Dr. Frank Luntz as guest speaker of the 2009 Speaker Series Luncheon. As is often the case, the soiree will be held at the venerable Ritz-Carlton.
Dr. Luntz is well known as a political pollster, focus group maven and a leading communication strategist, instructing conservatives on how to sell their vision for America. In fact, it was Luntz who helped the Republican Party develop the highly successful Contract with America in 1994.
All of this begs the question: What are Luntz and the Goldwater Institute doing in the same cabal with Nathan Sproul and his Lincoln Strategy Group — listed as double sponsors of the event?
Since the proper use of effective language is a driving force for Dr. Luntz, we’d be curious to hear his answer to this unsavory association.
In the absence of a response, our best guess is a McCain illegal immigration connection. Sproul, it will be remembered is the dastardly character who ran the despicable campaign against Sen. Russell Pearce (R-Dist.18). His tactics were so reprehensible that they gave rise to the term “Sprouling” — first used in this blog.
It was Sproul who obtained McCain’s quid pro quo endorsement for Len Munsil in his unsuccessful 2006 gubernatorial bid, which floundered under a weak anti-illegal immigration banner.
Sproul was also behind the disingenuously named ballot initiative Stop Illegal Hiring (Prop. 202) which sought to accomplish just the opposite. The voters saw through the abysmal charade — and its proponents of low wage, illegal and exploitable labor led by McDonald’s owner Marion “Mac” Magruder, Carl’s Jr. owner Jason LeVecke and chaired by County Attorney wannabe Andrew Pacheco — sending it to a swift defeat. The conservative publication Human Events also covered the deceptive effort.
The men are connected through their involvement with the Arizona Chamber of Commerce, the tail that wags the dog of illegal immigration. Then there are the familial linkings, with Andy McCain, the son of John McCain, serving as chairman of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce.
Failure to comply with the established elite McCain purveyors of illegal immigration brought threats of retribution against the legislators who supported the Legal Arizona Workers act.
Most recently, Clint Bolick, who serves as the director of the Scharf-Norton Center for Constitutional Litigation at the Goldwater Institute, relentlessly hammered Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio both in the daily newspaper and in two lengthy GI Reports, in an obvious effort to ingratiate himself with the generous donors of the open borders crowd.
The uniting of these dissimilar gents is not for fun and games — they mean business. Connect the dots, follow the money. They all lead to McCain.
An extremely troubling, but not surprising association. Fundraising is the driving force of the Goldwater Institute, which is in no way a conservative think-tank. Its roots are deeply embedded in libertarianism and many of their issues are in direct opposition to conservative values. For example, they are not pro-life and were previously deadly silent on illegal immigration, until Clint Bolick began issuing his reports intended, as pointed out here, to ramp up the money making machine for the institute. Nathan Sproul should be hanging his head in shame over his sordid exploits. Instead he unconscionably grandstands. There’s a diagnosis for that condition, but I’ll refrain from labeling him here.
I am so disappointed in The Goldwater Institute. For them to associate with Sproul tells me more than I care to know. In the future I will know to take what they have to assert and put it in the same file as their attacks on Arpaio. It all makes sense to me now. Thank you Seeingred for blowing their cover.
Don’t forget that Jeff Flake used to run the Goldwater Institute and he loves open borders and illegals.
I sincerely hope the Goldwater Institute will regret this association. No doubt Sproul and his wife are underwriting this event in an attempt to rehabilitate his image. I live in District 18 and remember all too vividly the terrible smear campaign Sproul ran on behalf of Congressman Jeff Flake’s immigration lawyer brother-in-law in an attempt to defeat Sen. Russell Pearce. Pearce mopped the floor with lawyer Gibbons and won big. I walked my entire neighborhood for Russell and told each person I encountered what the real story was. Seeing Red is right! This is all about McCain and illegal immigration. That’s the story Flake never tells, but thanks to this site and other sources, we know about. Sproul has also been involved in questionable voter registration activities in other states. If I ever see his name attached to any candidate or any issue, I vote the other way.
Rehabilitate Sproul? Are you kidding? The guy is a well known slug. No matter how much money he contributes to any cause, he will still be considered a lowlife by those who have any knowledge of him. The links provided in this post make interesting reading. I got angry all over agains reading of his exploits. Goldwater Institute has lost my respect.
I’m not “disappointed” with Goldwater. I’m disgusted!
I also think the folks here at this site have got it exactly right! There are too many roads leading to McCain.
You have to cut the head off the snake. NO on McStain.
County Attorney wannabe Andrew Pacheco? When? He ran in 2004 and was soundly defeated in the primary. Just when does he think he can run again? Oh, I get it. Andy Thomas resigns and Pacheco thinks he can run? Hah! No pro-illegal alien candidate has a chance in Maricopa County.
Get real:
Pacheco has been quietly letting the Board of Supervisors know he is interestd in the appointment to the position of county attorney when Andrew Thomas steps down to run for Attorney General. Thomas will be leaving the county high and dry while allowing the Board who detests him, to appoint his sucessor. What a mess.
And more closely connected to this article, is the fact that his wife, Jessica Pacheco, works for Nathan Sproul. It all fits so neatly together. And don’t forget that McCain (and Kyl) endorsed Pacheco when he ran against Thomas for county attorney,
I think the Goldwater Institute should change its name to the McGoldwater Institute. Very good piece. Thanks. The links provide excellent background which I appreciate. I wasn’t aware of some of this.
The interconnections are quite revealing! Munsil purported to be a conservative, but his alliance with Sproul exposed another side. Munsil was also tied in with McCain. I regret my voted for Munsil, but I found out the truth too late. For him to have lost by such incredibly high numbers indicates to me that others knew more than I did at the time. Too bad the winner was Napolitano. I’m becoming so jaded that I’m beginning to feel it’s better to get screwed over by a Democrat than a deceiving Republican.
After listening to JD Hayworth during drive time 5 days a week, I’m convinced he’s one guy I can trust. And he’s got a track record, both in Congress and during his time on the radio. It’s not too easy to play games with that evidence.
