The daily newspaper pretty much knocked itself out enthusing over Mexico yesterday. In a multi-page extravaganza, (the website even includes a video) readers were informed that although the nation is full of promise Arizonans tend to see Mexico as the “source of problems, not possibilities.” Further, that small-minded “attitude limits our economic horizons.”
We’ve been treated to this exercise, using different ploys repeatedly.
But being told that Mexico holds the potential for rebuilding Arizona’s economy, qualifies as the last straw.
Given that Arizona’s economic woes are exacerbated by the continued influx of illegal laborers during a time of spiraling unemployment and home foreclosures, makes that a hard sell. And the jobs are not field labor and dishwashers as we are often led to believe. Rather many employers, watching their bottom line, prefer to hire illegal workers to the exclusion of American citizens. The construction trade, now slowed to a near standstill, was among the worst offenders. Ditto the hospitality industry.
Guillermo Padres Ellas, the Governor of Sonora reiterates the theme, with a column telling us that the Arizona-Sonora corridor represents a vital component of economic well-being. His piece is one of many, including one by former Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano. Now the Homeland INsecurity Chieftain for Barack Obama, she was and remains unwilling to do anything to address the porous and crime-ridden border. Napolitano is best known for her quip, “You show me a 50-foot wall and I’ll show you a 51-foot ladder at the border. That’s the way the border works.”
This poll on the Republic’s site, indicates they still have some convincing to do:
Do you see Mexico more as a problem for Arizona or as an opportunity?
Problem: 56.74%
Opportunity: 34.92%
Hard to say: 8.34%
Total Votes: 779
In the pages of the newspaper today is this gem, which might explain the polling above.
AZ Republic touting this when the Chandler RAPIST (an ILLEGAL) pleads guilty today & will spend over 160 yrs in prison on OUR DIME/DENARO!!! These RAPES would not have occured if Mr. ILLEGAL was NOT in our Country & we would NOT have to support him for life – behind bars that is. I guess these are the people McCain wants to give amnesty too – after this ILLEGAL was working by day in the Construction business, I believe as a large equipment operator.
Exactly, Kathy! I suspect the numbers of illegals has not dropped nearly as much as the Republic would have us believe. Reports that crime has dropped are the only indicator that the slowdown in the job market has had a trickle down effect on illegal immigration. At the first uptick in hiring, they’ll be back in full force to take whatever jobs might be available by undercutting wages of American workers who don’t live three families to one single family residence.
And have any of you noticed that the city of Phoenix lifts not a single finger to halt this breach of the law in our neighborhoods?
Yeah. Tell that to by brother-in-law, who was displaced on his construction job after 11 years as an electrician. He was replaced by an illegal who barely spoke English.
So, let’s be clear: as we read this, our national parks are being taken over one by one by MEXICAN DRUG CARTELS, operating illegal drug operations ON AMERICAN SOIL and our politicians ARE DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. Yes, I am yelling! This is beyond outrageous and is a clear indication of just how wrong our government has become.
Where’s the Berzerkly liberals screaming about the environment?
Where’s the Sierra Club yammering about the pristine forests?
How about everyday citizens who now have to be afraid to go camping in their own national forests for fear of being gunned down by an AK47 toting illegal?
Where’s the outrage?!
Start sending this to Congress and demanding that the military be sent in to clean out these rats and end any and all incursions onto our soil once and for all!

Hey, maybe with open borders the Republic can hawk more copies of its Spanish language magazine. The paper will make a great refeerer wrap, too.
While we’re added, let’s open an HOV lane for carjacker (sorry, got have a crew aboard to use) and a special truck route to bring in the illegal workers our fast food places need so bad.
The rest of the profiteering Americans employing the illegals can take the southbound expressway to Rocky Point to spend their greenbacks they made by paying illegals under the table. My neighborhood is full of so called “contractors” having the illegals show up every day to pick up the work trucks. Where is Sheriff Joe when I need ‘em? (forget the zoning dudes, I called the City of Phoenix and they made about zero effort – oh yeah, like I was holding my breath that Food Tax Phil’s folks would do anything).
