Speaking at a recent Tea Party meeting, gubernatorial candidate Buz Mills let a not very smart cat out of the bag. Mills repeated his position that foreign workers taking jobs from Arizonans is not an issue.
Predictably, the telecommunications businessman sides with John McCain’s position in favor of exploitable, low waged labor. Or at least that was McCain’s most recent position before cloaking himself in another, as he sticks his finger to the political winds to gauge public opinion.
Listen to Buz Mills words here as he excuses the illegal invasion.
“You know there’s not many people coming over looking for jobs now because we’re down so many jobs. So, we don’t have an issue of people coming over wanting to work…and…that’s not the issue. What we have is we got criminals coming over and to protect their drug trafficking and their human smuggling, you know, they’re taking advantage of the folks down there.”
Mills is dead wrong. The Pinal County Sheriff said there are 500,000 a year coming across the Ariz-Mexico border – and more than 40,000 of them ALREADY HAVE AN ARIZONA CRIMINAL RECORD.
This is not the type of repeat “visitor” we need.
Does Buz think that the other 460,000 coming annually are just “visiting?”
As long as Arizona has employer willing to pay illegal aliens, they are coming.
My neighbors use lawns services with illegals.
I have a friend who lives in a Scottsdale subdivision with a bunch of contractors operating their trucks and stuff out of their back yards – and every day carloads of illegals come into that subdivision, park and go to work. No city inspectors, no police. Just lots of illegals.
Buz needs to get the BUZZ on this. My God, man, he was U.S. Marine – did he miss rifle training and fail to zero in on the target?
LOL! I didn’t completely understand his legal rendering of the tenth amendment…
They got what upside down?
Wow. “We don’t have an issue of people coming over wanting to work.” Then he follows that up with a prolonged blink – classic body language of a person who knows he’s just unleashed a real corker.
We didn’t fall for it either Buz.
Deny illegals are taking jobs from Americans and then wave the constitution in our face? Give me a break!
Google Buz-Mills-Florida-Fraud and you’ll know what this phony “I’m not a politician” is really all about.
The color of illegal immigration is green. Buz Mills seems to understand this principle just fine. Sad but, this lie will actually be rewarded with votes from the border insecurity crowd.
Our 70% of Arizonans who wanted SB 1070 to become law will unravel Owen P. Mills and his illegal employer friends.
Mills is out of touch with the realities facing small business and workers in this state. Bids are lost to businesses that employ illegals, usually under the table so there’s no tax benefit to the state, as well as Americans losing jobs thanks to a new demand for “bilingual skills”.
This was not an issue when we moved here from Illegal Land, also known as California. Today it is a very big deal and is making finding a new job even more difficult for monolingual Americans since so many companies hire illegals. Of course, when pressed, these same companies claim that they follow the E-Verify requirements and that they only want bilingual HR and Supervisory staff to make the workers “feel more comfortable”. It’s in every industry. To name a couple, both Hunter Contracting in Gilbert and Safeway Stores have either required or strongly preferred bilingual skills for their HR staff. Hmmm, one is in construction and the other in warehousing and retail, so let’s think about the possibilities that they are employing illegals… Sheriff Joe should plan to visit both real soon.
Here’s a thought- how about hiring American citizens and letting those who don’t care enough to learn English go without a job? Meanwhile, since the boycott craze is in full swing, why not boycott any company that advertises for bilingual staff positions? (note that many now use agencies and are listed as “confidential” because they are afraid of drawing attention to their companies )
Time to fight back, Arizona.
Beg to differ, Mr. Mills. Importing exploitable labor outweighs the problems of drug runners and coyotes. Of course, the border must be secured and we must eliminate the twin scourges of drug runners and coyotes. But, allowing illegals to invade our entire economy is the larger problem.
No illegal invasion problem? It’s only a secure border problem? Hardly! My brother was passed up for a foreman’s job for the sole reason he does not speak spanish. Give me a break!
Another 20 aliens found in a Phoenix drop house today! Who you kidding Mills?
Okay, that is good enough for me, Buz-with-only-one-z: you are off my short list!
For anyone in your position to make the staggering claim that illeqals coming across the border to take jobs IS NOT AN ISSUE would be laughable if it weren’t so pathetically foolish.
You are out of the running, babe. Next candidate…….
Too much ego and money, too little involvement in the grassroots of the same republican party that he wants to elect him. The extra time he has on his hands would be put to better use learning the issues (instead of sound bites) and getting out to help candidates who can actually offer something more than a flood of televised ads that say little. This homemade video tells me much more about our friend Buz than all of the slick ads money can buy. Thanks Seeing Red AZ for making this available. It’s an eye opener!
Right Mills, illegal aliens aren’t coming for jobs here unless you count the framers, plumbers, electricians, landscapers, dry-wall hangers, drivers, flooring installers, block layers, painters, auto mechanics…
Taking advantage Of “What the hell” citizens are being murdered, Raped, Home invasions, murdered police officers We see where your head is at Buzz Mills as well as your value of American citizens, Best come out for air you may suffocate in there.Where do you get off saying not as many are crossing our borders they are coming by the hundreds day and night. Americans need what jobs are out there not your Hope For A Vote Illegals.
I was favoring Buz because I like the idea of a “non-politician” getting elected. I even tried to get past Mills defrauding his Florida business partner (Google Buz Mills Fraud). I’ve seen enough now. Ol’ folksy Buz is as crooked as they come.
Whoops! Looks like Buz stepped in it! If these comments are any indication, his perspective on the illegal invasion will tank his campaign.
What planet has this guy been on? Is he
for real? Tell him to take a trip to
Maryvale Mexico and make sure he has a
translator with him. They don’t like
English there. I hope not too many fools
sign his petitions! It would be scary to
have him anywhere in government. We have
too many of those already.
They got it upside down? If his point is it is more important that the “federal guvment leave us alone” than it is they defend us against illegal invasion then I certainly do not agree with him. They are issues of about equal importance.
Mills must adamantly believe his point because he is trying to sell it to a whole room here.
Boy…those founding Fathers just couldn’t do nothin’ right could they Buz?
Buz Mills doesn’t lose my vote because of his politics (which I do not agree with). He loses my vote because he is an idiot.
No more politicians like him or McCain. Another one
who needs to go is the spoiler Deakin. He has no
idea of what the job of Senator is about. He was
never even involved in his community or any kind of
public service! Why is he still hanging on…is he
trying to spoil the race? Simcox cared enough about
Arizona to step down and support the best candidate.
What is Deakin waiting for?
We received a mailer from the old Buzzard Buz yesterday. The front of it had a distorted and horribly shortstopped picture of Gov. Jan Brewer on the front. What dirty pool! If he has a point to make, make it! But to distort the photo of a woman who has been a long time public servant is beyond decency. I don’t care for the tax she’s pushing and will vote against it, but I have no quarrel with the governor. Buz Mills has shown himself to be a below the belt slugger, and I don’t appreciate the tactics. Speak to the facts, not someone’s appearance which you have intentionally uglified.
You’re no beauty, Buz and your wife looks like a mud fence! Photoshop THAT!
Rose-it’s what politics have come to. You’ve gotta’ wonder about a guy who’s such a hard-@$$ about legal weapons owners whove made mistakes in the past, cleared them up, HAVE THEIR RIGHTS, but those citizens can’t attend his acadamy…yet those same citizens are allowed C.C.W.s. It’s HIS business, & he can run it any way he likes, but that seems a little “over th’ top” to me…in my opinion.
Gov Brewer’s been acting real conservative of late…what choice did she have? But I still have problems with her duplicity in the RECENT past.
Dean Martin’s still got a strong chance, but I’ve got questions for both candidates…
Buz ain’t even in th’ race, as far as I’m concerned.
More on Buz Mills – He isn’t giving voters credit for having any sense at all. Mills explains away the Florida fraud suit he lost with “we settled out of court.” Yes, you did settle out of court but, only after the court did find you had committed fraud. Why don’t you report the finding of fact while explaining away your settlement?
The voters know we DO have a problem with illegals taking jobs from Americans. And the voters DO understand a court’s finding of fact just fine. Mills, the voters are more intelligent than you give us credit for. That bodes poorly for your campaign.
Dear Buzz -
What part of “illegal” do you not understand?? Get with it – some of us want existing laws supported AND enforced.
Dean Martin is the man for THAT job.

Remember the Swift Meat Packing plant in Greeley, Colorado? A 2008 raid there netted over a hundred illegal aliens “doing the jobs Americans refused to do.” The next day Colorado citizens were lined up around the block to put in an application. Mills and McCain would rather lie to Arizona voters than champion American workers.
