“Honor killing” trial begins in Phoenix

Why should there be plea deals for honor killers?

Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 49, an Iraqi immigrant intentionally drove his vehicle into his 20-year-old daughter, Noor Almaleki and Amal Khalaf her boyfriend’s mother, as the two walked through a parking lot. After running them over, he backed up and ran over them again. Noor was in a coma for two weeks before she died.

This horrific, premeditated 2009 crime in which the Muslim father intentionally killed his own daughter and seriously injured another woman, was filed as a first degree murder case, but apparently not one worthy of the death penalty. FOX news reports opening arguments in the case are scheduled for today.

The father, claiming Noor had disgraced the family, had routinely harassed her for becoming “too Western,” too Americanized, warning her “something bad was going to happen.” It was reported that when she was 17 she refused to enter an arranged marriage in Iraq, enraging her father.

After running over the two women, Almaleki fled to London, where he was located and returned to Phoenix.

Although Almaleki admitted his role in the murder, he pled not guilty. The Arizona Republic reported that a plea deal was considered earlier this month. Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugged writes: Honor killing should be a capital crime. Islamic honor killing is on the rise in the West. These barbaric crimes should be stamped out, not sanctioned. They should be dealt with in the harshest terms. She posts a Gruesome Gallery here.

Instead unemployed trucker Faleh Hassan Almaleki faces life in prison if a jury finds him guilty of this vicious “honor killing“and hit and run of two. No death penalty was sought.

Why?

Incredibly, Almaleki’s public defender, Billy Little, asked the judge to take special precautions to ensure the prosecution wouldn’t wrongly seek the death penalty because Almaleki is a Muslim. Little requested that the court “provide some level of assurance that there is no appearance that a Christian is seeking to execute a Muslim for racial, political, religious or cultural beliefs.”

No American court should tolerate brutal and premeditated murder out of political, religious and cultural considerations. The message to Muslim girls who are threatened by honor killing is that American courts will offer them no refuge.

In wake of some of these ‘honor’ killings, I wonder why they emigrate to this country if they are concerned about the Westernization of their children.

  2. Maggie says:

There has got to be more to this. I find the fact that the death penalty was not sought in this case appalling!

  3. Frankly Speaking says:

Public defender Billy Little is appropriately named. How dare he suggest the court “provide some level of assurance that there is no appearance that a Christian is seeking to execute a Muslim for racial, political, religious or cultural beliefs.”

Is that unnamed “Christian” he mocks the elected county attorney or the prosecutor trying the case? What if that person was an atheist? By Mr. Little’s absurd standards, a Jewish prosecutor wouldn’t even be qualified to handle the documents charging this depraved monster. Are there any Baha’i, Hindu or Buddhist prosecutors who could try this case? Could THEY have charged this as worthy of the death penalty??

  4. Hometown Guy says:

This caving in occurred under the watch of the previous county attorney. KFYI morning show host Barry Young was giving the lessening of the charge from death penalty to life quite a bit of play at the time. I listen to his program as I drive to work so remember it very well.

  5. chick says:

His Family helped him escape. Who is being charged in that?

I agree with Catsclaw. If these people come to the U.S., they should be prepared for the possibility that their children may become westernized. If they cannot abide with this, then they should stay in their own country. We certainly wouldn’t travel to their country & expect for them to treat or educate our children like they would be treated or educated in their own country.

    • Roozter says:

Of course we wouldn’t. But they do! That’s the way it is & will remain until the western world makes it clear to them that it is unacceptable.

Excuse my ignorance (not knowing)..but just what are we suppose to do as patriots to stop all these things from happening? We are fighting ‘Town Hall’ right now. The Liar in Chief is in charge of just about every aspect in our lives & then we are suppose to stop this? Frankly, I’ve reached the end of my rope. I realize that this is what they (the government) wants of us…but after awhile, a person loses their will to fight these actions.

Before obama leaves office, this murderer will be pardoned.

Baby steps to the full blown acceptance of Sharia law. First we won’t be able to prosecute Muslims in the same way that we would other faiths, next we will be coerced into allowing Sharia law, in bits and pieces at first, to be applied side by side with American law. We are already called racists for not sanctioning a mosque at ground zero while our schools are scared silly that they might offend Muslims.

Frankly, it’s too tiring to be PC. Americans need to man up ( sorry, Feminists ). It’s OUR country and OUR culture. Move here and adapt to our culture or leave.

    • Roozter says:

The big banks have already started doing business according to Sharia Law with OUR tax dollars (Goldman-Sachs, I think).

You are so right about PC. We absolutely must not give a damn what anyone calls us. There are many reasons why we should not accept this culture. The so called “honor killing” is just one example.

    AZJenn -

Yes, it does seem hopeless. The average individual can’t stop everything. Hopefully, with time the collective actions of many will bear fruit.
I see it as a “seize the day” kind of thing. Staying informed & educated about the truth is paramount so one can present a reasonable debate, either in person or online when the opportunity arises.

Getting involved somehow – each according to their time/talent. I do most of my learning & advocacy online…Facebook is a godsend.
I love to travel, so enjoy going to some of the events that happen around the country. My first 9/12 Tea Party in DC was awesome…my first trip there. And I was in the Phoenix area twice last spring to see Glenn Beck & to go to one of the support SB 1070 rallies.

Hopefully those on the jury for this trial will seize their opportunity to show the world that American citizens will not tolerate these actions or the philosophy they are based upon.

Even more than what the Muslims do is what the Western world , where there are laws to protect women (as long as they are not unborn), does not do. We should come against this behavior in every way possible. But it gets swept under the rug so the big banks can do business according to Sharia law with our tax dollars.

Try to hang in there. Fight the good fight! If you need moral supprt find me on Facebook (Stacey Gates).
I have a number of good, conservative friends & it keeps my hope alive.
And I’ve bookmarked this site, as well.

    Take care.
