Reason # 257: He’s got a great sense of humor
The Periódico de la República de Arizona (Arizona Republic) looks for any reason to write scathing articles on Maricopa County’s popular Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Not known for reserve, relentless harping is the newspaper’s claim to fame.
They are now unhappy with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office’s new online contest Mugshot of the Day! Those so inclined can vote for their favorite among the most recent intake mug shots.
Mental health advocates, ginned up by the newspaper, are up in arms over the site. They declare it’s unfair to those inmates they deem mentally incompetent due to drug or alcohol use or who “admit to having been diagnosed with a mental illness at some point in their lives.”
“We’re not making fun of people with mental illness,” Arpaio counters. “The photos are there anyway. What difference does it make if you ask them which one they like? They don’t know the history of the person.”
And in typical Arpaio fashion, the sheriff pondered the ethical distinctions between a newspaper running his photo and his office calling attention to inmates in his custody. “You talk about me making people look bad. I want to know why the editorial board uses the worst picture they can find on me? You guys do the same thing that you’re accusing me of doing,” Arpaio said. “Did you check to see if I have a mental problem?”
Not only is he a consummate lawman with an unparalleled career, Sheriff Joe Arpaio possesses a rare wit and sense of humor that belie his tough guy image. No wonder he has been reelected to an unprecedented five 4-year terms.
Much appreciate your continued support of our fine sheriff, Joe Arpaio. I respect this man and his continued efforts to honor the rule of law and keep Maricopa County’s citizens safe.
The fact that he is despised by the Repugnant newspaper is a feather in his cap.

Arpaio is right. Not only does the newspaper use the “worst picture they can find” of him, they also photoshop them as they did with the governor when the editors were ticked at her. And today, the paper’s not very funny but reliably left-leaning cartoonist Steve Benson went out of his way to characterize Sheriff Arpaio as a gargoyle.
I DON’T SUBSCRIBE. I saw it at my neighbor’s house.
Anytime I want a good laugh I check out the MCSO mugshots. I’m so glad that I finally get to vote on them! LOL
Frankly, I’m amazed with Arpaio. He is much smarter than people think and that makes liberals crazy. It is a joy to watch. Go Joe!
Some sheriffs in this state covet his fame, but they don’t possess a fraction of Arpaio’s intuition.
You are absolutely correct, Jane. Sheriff Arpaio is smarter than all of his detractors combined. They can’t control him so they rip him.
McCain endorser Paul Baboon can’t hold a candle to our Sheriff Joe.

Sheriff Joe is confident and justified because he knows HE IS DOING HIS JOB.
He is the ONLY sheriff in Arizona who is fulfilling his oath of office. All the others talk in double-speak, blame everyone else and do nothing to protect Arizonans, while secretly promoting amnesty for illegal aliens.
Maricopa County is very fortunate to have Sheriff Joe forcing the crime rates down. Why can’t we make him Sheriff of Arizona??

Joe has, from the begining, been able to prove to the leftist clowns that he is smarter than they are. They hate him for that more than anything else.
Joe laughs at them, mocks them, and shows them to be more like children than adults.
We get to see the show and laugh along with him, we know it’s going to be a good day whenever they decide to take another shot at Joe.

You berate us for not posting your comment regarding Sheriff Arpaio fast enough to suit your whims, saying it is because we are “intellectually cowardly.”
Not so. The reason for the delay was because we have other lives beyond this site, having to scramble even harder to earn livings to support our grandiose lifestyles, feed our kids, and keep gas in our cars as your President Obama squeezes us harder by the day. Some longtime commenters are given immediate access. Others are held for moderation. Yours, which just came in this morning, was one of those.
