John McCain has recently stated he will not endorse in the 2012 Republican presidential primary, since so many of his friends are candidates for the GOP nomination.
Since he is endorsing in the Phoenix mayoral race, the takeaway is that he is not friendly with any the announced candidates who want to lead the nation’s sixth largest city — except for his longtime political strategist, lobbyist Wes Gullett.
Besides having McCain in his corner, Gullett’s wife Deb is more than just an enthusiastic supporter of her husband’s latest career aspirations.
Deb Gullett has inside track, extensive experience as chief-of-staff for left-of-center Democrat Mayor Phil Gordon. Term-limited Gordon has not been eager to leave the top post in the Sanctuary City for illegal aliens he created. In fact he paid high priced pollsters to gauge the level of support of a ballot initiative abolishing term limits for the mayor’s office. When the numbers showed little support for his Mayor for Life scheme, Gordon was forced to abandon the plan.
Look for Gordon to endorse Gullet to succeed him. Gullett was prominently featured on the Republicans for Janet (Democrat Janet Napolitano) website during her 2006 bid for governor. Liberal Gordon endorsed Republican squish McCain — in the game of Who Stands to the Left of Whom?
And John McCain? He is such an ardent supporter of Gullett’s, he will be the prominently featured attraction at a fundraising soiree at a lavish North Central Phoenix residence this Friday evening to help his close friend and confident Gullett rake in the big bucks. Former U.S. Rep John Shadegg (R-CD 3) will also be on hand — along with a wide assortment of other border laxity types. In 2008, Shadegg told the New York Times that Arizona Republicans supportive of border security are “xenophobic” and “intolerant.”
Connect the dots on this mayoral race. If you like John McCain, Wes Gullett is your man.
John McCain wants to control the city of Phoenix and the state of Arizona by inserting Wes Gullett as mayor and Jeff Flake as his compadre US Senator to replace the equally lame on the border Jon Kyl. This is all by well-planned design. We are their stooges to be controlled. It’s called top-down politics.
The fact that Wes Gullett proudly put his name on the ‘Republicans for Janet’ website speaks volumes about his commitment to the Republican party in which he was an elected Precinct Committeeman. Endorsing Democrats is not in the job description. Other McCain staffers are on Friday night’s host committee and showed up on that infamous Napolitano list although they were also elected Republican PCs.
And yes, I know that the city elections (mayor and council) masquerade as non-partisan, but the affiliations of all of these folks are well known. Phil Gordon has always been out front with his party affiliation and leftward lurch. I’d trust the Gullett’s about as far as I could throw McCain headquarters.
Liberal Gordon endorsed RINO McCain. Gullett’s wife worked for Gordon. Gullett is a McCain confidant and longtime advisor. It’s called a roundabout. There’s not a hairsbreadth of space between any of them.
Anyone know about Jennifer Wright?
See the list of candidates @ http://phoenix.gov/election/clist.html
I am a volunteer for Jenn, she has a lot of momentum going for her and is a Tea Party favorite.
I attended the candidate debate last Thursday night. Jennifer Wright had difficulty connecting with the audience and was actually booed at one point and then later engaged in a pointless battle with another candidate. She needs to get up to speed on the issues and learn to find common ground with the “folks.” Still, she could be the dark horse in the race. The others are all tired hacks and political retreads.
Wes Gullett will continue to be John McCain’s lap dog with the added “benefit” of having Phil Gordon hovering in the background. Gullett is a recipe for disaster in a field of weeds. It would have been nice to see someone substantial run for this post. Why is good governance so difficult to achieve?
Thanks Suzanne, I met her once and she seemed personable. I have not seen any campaign material in public which is a concern at this point in the race. Her website is up, but I know she needs $$$upport. I hope to see her at one of her events coming up. Nevertheless, I’d support and vote for her above the other “conservatives.”

I don’t support Wes Gullet because of his ties to McCain, that said, he is getting money and will be mayor if we don’t all get in someone else’s boat and row. A nice person with a smidgen of humility will work fine for me.
Greg Stanton is said to be doing very well in raising money. He’s another liberal who went to work for Democrat Terry Goddard at the AG’s office after resigning from the city council.
Two peas in a pod! McCain wants to rule the immediate world and Wes Gullet is a obliging facilitator. I wish there was a better field of candidates for this important position.
Thanks for the reminders about Gordon and Gullett’s wife and John Shadegg’s insulting comments to the eastern press about the very people who kept returning him to office over the years. With the information overload, we sometimes forget important facts.
Hey folks…if Mr. McCain & devio-dem Filaberto Gordonez are @$$0(!@+&$, wouldn’t that association be in violation of OUR Republican Platform? If Gordon & McCain are BOTH supporting this Gullett guy, you KNOW they’re in cahoots! Which would suprize NONE of US HERE @ SRA! I don’t live in th’ HEAT, but there is no coincidence here in these two alleged opposites supporting th’ same guy, & PROOF shouldn’t be that hard to find.
…or am I off base?
