“There are Republicans who are committed, like Michele Bachmann, to vote against raising the debt limit under any circumstances,” said notorious aisle-crosser John McCain in regard to the contentious debate on raising the deficit ceiling taking place in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Congresswoman Bachmann, a popular and conservative presidential candidate, has voted against lifting the deficit limit and has signaled she has no intention of shifting her position on the issue — causing McCain to brusquely opine in National Review, that Bachmann is acting “sort of like Senator Obama did.”
During his stint as a U.S. Senator, Barack Obama voted against raising the debt ceiling in 2006 — a vote Obama now considers “a mistake.”
Since McCain often appeared more in Obama’s corner than his own during the 2008 presidential campaign, Michele Bachmann would do well to take his comment in stride and consider it a boost rather than a slam.
In her new campaign ad, “Waterloo,“ U.S. Rep. Bachmann speaks clearly about her efforts to rein in wasteful spending in Washington.

John McCain is a jealous old goat who hasn’t a conservative bone in his body. He is clearly enraged that Michele Bachmann, an educated and articulate woman with actual credentials including working as an economist, a tax lawyer and a small business owner is outpacing him on every level.
He only won his last AZ Senate race because he outspent his conservative opponent, former Congressman JD Hayworth by nearly $30 million. He also knows that if Bachmann is on the ticket his beloved amnesty proposals will not see the light of day!
Go Bachmann!!
Exactly! But I’d like to add three words to your comment “Go Bachmann!!:
Go home, McCain!!
(I live in John McCain’s previous precinct — before he moved to the penthouse tower also owned by his beer heiress wife — and know more than I’d like to about him!)
Here’s an idea for a movie: A certain liquor magnate is implicated in a certain reporter’s murder. A budding liquor magnate who knows too much is given a huge beer distributorship so he’ll keep his mouth shut. New beer magnate gets very rich. A certain budding politician dumps his wife and marries beer magnate’s very rich daughter. Daughter’s wealth catapults certain politician into politics. Politician ends up as GOP candidate for president, assuring that his socialist opponent will win. The losing politician just won’t go away and runs for office again. He wins and remains a millstone not only around the necks of the people of his state, but also around the necks of the entire citizenry as he tries to torpedo the presidential candidacy of an actual conservative. Any ideas on a name for this horror film?
McCain won against Hayworth because Hayworth was not an ideal conservative standard bearer. Much is made of the infamous $25 warchest left over from McCain’s incompetent run against Obama; but the truth is that all the $25 million bought McCain was the airtime to run Hayworth’s own mistakes on TV over and over again…the TV Pitchman for Free government money, the Medicare Drug vote, etc.
Hayworth also went out of his way to insult people needlessly. He spent as much time attacking Jeff Flake, for example, as he spent attacking John McCain. There were several Flake supporters (I am one) who were absolutely fed up with McCain and desperate to vote for almost anyone instead of McCain…and we would go to Hayworth events to listen to rants against Flake…uh, JD, who are you running against?
There were several good conservatives who could have run against McCain, and chose not to. Hayworth was a deeply flawed candidate. Hayworth was seen by many as a true establishment candidate, willing to back the government expansionist principles of George Bush at all times during his time in office. He only “found religion” when it came time for him to run against McCain.
John McCain is now irrelevant to conservative politics. We can count on his vote against Obamacare, but for most other issues – responsible spending, 2nd amendment rights, limited government – he is useless. All we can do is look forward to the end of his term.
I will confess, I am worried for my own health, because there’s a possibility that my head will explode the next time I hear McCain say something about “his good friend, Grant Woods.”
You take exception to anyone going after Jeff Flake? He is far more flawed than JD Hayworth could ever be. I assume from your comments, you are perfect, but most of us are not. However most of us are nowhere near the level of duplicity as exemplified by John McCain and his protegee Jeff the Flake. If you think McCain makes your head explode, wait until you get a dose of SEN. McFLAKE. Your head is guaranteed to blow off your shoulders. This libertarian masquerading as a pork-busting conservative is actually aligned with the biggest liberal in congress, Chicago Democrat Luis Gutierrez. Flake tries to hide the close association in his conservative district, and most of his fellow Mormons look no deeper than their faith when they vote for this junior version of McCain. Wise up, Steve. They are one and the same.
McCain acting like a libertarian instead of his current behavior – acting like a Democrat – would be an improvement.
And no, I don’t take exception to people going after Jeff Flake. I do, however, point out that it was pretty dumb for Hayworth to spend as much time attacking Flake as he spent attacking McCain. Hayworth’s goal was to win the Republican primary; attacking Flake did nothing to further his efforts towards that goal and instead alienated Flake supporters who disliked McCain. You’d be surprised how much anger there is among Flake supporters towards McCain – there is a profound difference between the two men.
And to say that Flake has a “close association” with Luis Gutierrez is laughable. One co-sponsorship does NOT make a close association. Should you want the truth, why don’t you compare the voting records of the three men – you will find Flake more conservative than McCain, by far, and McCain, flawed as he is, more conservative than Gutierrez.
Steve you are correct—McCain had to go after Hayworth’s mistakes. Why? Because McCain couldn’t run on his own conservative record because he doesn’t have a conservative record.
No argument there….of course, when you boil it down, Hayworth’s record was pretty similar.
What is the difference between pro amnesty Jeff Flake and
John Mc Cain ????
Take note of the the left wing praise that Jeff has received on his latest big brother bill.
….Arizona Public Interest Research Group Applauds Congressman Jeff Flake for Introducing Act to Cut Farm Subsidies that Contribute to Obesity….
Jeff Flake and luis talk about what close friends they are Steve. And yes you are an appologist for Flake.. It is like a barroom fight with you when anybody says anything negative about Flake. If only someone would step up to the plate and get in the race it would please many of us.
As far as McNasty and JD are concerned, there were two candidates running against JD. You seem to forgegt all about that, I still want to know what involvement McCain had to do with Deakin. So do not say McCain”s 23 million had nothing to do with JD’s defeat. JD was a very good conservative but again money bought another Senate seat.
Yes, and even after viewing the Palin documentary “Undefeated”, I’d like to add “Sarah, stay out”! The documentary just made me more disgusted that she fought the Alaska establishment good ‘ol boys so effectively and then she comes to AZ and aids our worst establishment elitist, McCain. While claiming he is a great conservative, she refered to him repeatedly with the “maverick” title that the MSM gave him for breaking repeatedly from the conservative agenda. How smart is that???
Yes, “Go Bachmann”!
Annie, it was his Presidential campaign, please tell me in the movie where that was constantly refered to? I saw it too. RUN SARAH RUN.
Steve, Flake is McCain, so JD was being consistent. Just check out Flake’s sponsorship of the Dream and Strive Acts.
And if you are trying to salve your guilt for supporting McCain by suggesting that he is now irrelevant is naive at best. He continues to be a player of the worst kind, witness this post.
I suggest for your penance that you send $100 to Bachmann.
Yeah, look at McCain’s votes for raping the taxpayer at every opportunity (TARP, etc) and for gutting the 2nd Amendment, and then compare Flake’s record. Other than their shared desire to actually do something about immigration (as opposed to complaining about the border), there’s very little similarity between the two men.
Flake is a social Liberal, opps, Lib(atarian). He needs to change parties. PLEASE SOMEONE GET IN THE RACE.
I hope McCain has had time to contemplate on his false praise of Barack Husein OBama.
No decent man would have done all the corrupt manipulations he has done since he took office. The worst one being the Obama care bill passed against the will of most Americans. In addition to his lack of concern about his Democrat Congress failing to have a budget for 2010-2011. All the rest of his anti Constitution acts should show he is NOT A DECENT MAN! He is a THUG!
McCain, EAT your words! Decency according to your standards is not what most Americans define as DECENCY!
Concur, McCain’s constant praise of Obama, a man who clearly views himself as loyal not to the interests of the United States but rather to some weird world socialist dream, is unseemly.
There are many cases of political enemies being friends, and many cases where fundamentally opposed political personalities both display honor and integrity. However,Obama is consistently being shown to be an immoral, lying, arrogant, narcissistic, evil individual, who is never clear about his motives and seeks only to deceive and manipulate to attain the goals that must be hidden from the public if he is to prevail. A blind man can spot the dishonor and lies, and McCain’s continual praise of this fundamentally corrupt person speaks volumes about McCain’s character.
Steve, you remain the worst kind of “broken record.” Please stop repeating your sorry rationalization for supporting McCain because of JD’s alleged “flaws.”
The bottom line is this: JD Hayworth had the guts to challenge the $30 million McCain machine to which your 2012 Champion continues to kowtow, although now he cynically claims to have renounced his support for Amnesty, the DREAM Act. etc.
Sure… just like the incumbent you voted for in the 2010 Primary, who claimed he wanted to “complete the danged fence,” only to say he could work with Obama toward “comprehensive immigration reform” once he was safely re-elected…with your steadfast support, of course. You have a better chance of buying beachfront property in Yuma than ever seeing McCain and Flake support genuine border security.
Please spare us the obligatory personal attacks that you are no doubt formulating. Whatever JD’s imperfections…and I doubt they are as legion as the multi-million dollar campaign of negative ads that influenced you and, unfortunately, so many others…at least he offered a conservative alternative that so threatened the incumbent that he decided to cynically imitate it. Now, his “crown prince” is doing the same!
Oh, well…imitation may be the most sincere form of flattery, but it’s a shame that people who now criticize our senior senator continue to try and explain away their support of the very ideas and people they claim to now oppose.
By the way, Jeff Flake IS aptly named…only a “Flake” would self-photograph to a fare-thee-well, then direct aides to “leak” his “photographic self-love” to the Washington Press Corps!!!
You should join me in praying that an honest-to-goodness Conservative will run for the Senate in 2012.
I wish that McCain would take his wife’s money and retire. I am sure that his friend George Soros would give him money to set up another foundation as he did in the past. That way he can spend his retirement together with his lovely daughter bashing Republicans.
What we really must worry about is a citizenry capable of voting for men like McCain and Flake. Their problems are far more serious then those who are running because they do not recognize those who would destroy our sovereignty by giving corner to law breakers. The fools who vote for the likes of McCain and Flake are the ones to worry about. The problem is very deep because their values are so messed up they do not know what a real conservative looks like. They have no basis in morality or protecting the freedoms that were so hard won by our forefathers.
McCain can’t stand being bested by an intelligent woman. That’s why he allowed his staffers and fat, coarse, tattooed daughter to savage Sarah Palin. She overpowered him and connected with the voters more than he did.
I came to resent her when she helped get him reelected to his senate seat over Hayworth. That was more than repayment for him selecting her for the 2008 ticket. It was abject stupidity and an arrogant intrusion into our state politics.
I also wish she’d butt out of the national scene now. Do her husband and children even remember what she looks like?
[...] Red AZ covered McCain’s “Undercutting of Bachmann” here, [...]
Suzanne, sorry to confuse you. I was referring to Palin’s endorsement of McCain last year and stomping the state with him. She called for AZ to “send the Maverick back to Washington”. Of course, his audiences were full of liberals (good conservatives wouldn’t be caught dead there), and they cheered wildly each time she said it. Our AZ MSM carried it ad nauseum on the news for days.
