Democrats from coast to coast — Oregon, New York — resign in recent weeks
Wu’s increasingly erratic behavior, including emailing his staff photos of himself in a tiger suit hastened the exit of his staffers, including his longtime chief of staff, and his communications director, “who were so alarmed by his erratic behavior, they demanded he enter a hospital for psychiatric treatment.” His pollster and fundraiser also left after his election.
But his career went into a final tailspin after the teenager daughter of a longtime friend and campaign donor accused him of aggressive and unwanted sexual overtures. Wu admitted the encounter, but said it was consensual. He is a married father of two, but has been separated since 2009.
Oregon’s two Democrat senators — Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley called on the seven-term Democrat to step down today. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi requested an ethics investigation yesterday — a job she has been performing with regularity.
At last the defiant Wu agreed to resign — after the budget vote – meaning his exact last day is unknown; he will remain in Congress until the debate over the debt ceiling is resolved.
