U.S. Rep.Schweikert’s bold, accurate campaign ad

Turning lemons into lemonade, U.S. Congressman David Schweikert is using the opportunistic carpetbagging of Ben Quayle to his advantage:

Ben Quayle wants you to join him on a magic carpet ride to carpetbag a new Congressional district…

Why?

Because Ben Quayle wants to run for Congress in Schweikert’s CD6, but there are a few problems with Quayle’s argument:

- Quayle’s home isn’t in CD6, it’s in CD9

- Quayle’s campaign office isn’t in CD6, it’s in CD9

- Quayle’s Congressional office isn’t in CD6, it’s in CD9

This sure makes Quayle’s argument that “at the end of the day, my choice is to continue representing the people I represent today” a bit suspect, because he currently represents them from an office in CD9, his home is in CD9, and his campaign headquarters is in CD9!

 But there’s still more!

- News broke late last night Quayle actually polled CD9 to see how we match up in head-to-head against a radical leftist in 2012, to keep that seat red for a Republican majority in Arizona.

- Just what did he learn?

- He learned he would win in CD9!

So why then, would he run against David?

- Because Ben Quayle puts himself before Arizona.

- He puts himself before Republican victory in Arizona.

- He is willing to cost Republicans a majority in the House of Representatives.

- And now he wants YOU to HAND HIM a Congressional district that he doesn’t even live in.

Arizonans have never liked carpetbaggers.

Just because it’s Ben Quayle, doesn’t mean he is an exception.

CALL CONGRESSMAN BEN QUAYLE TODAY at 602-341-3012, and tell him not to Carpetbag in Arizona

  1. AZ Conservative Guy says:

Benny Quayle is a political opportunist. He tried to pass himself off as a native Arizonan when he first ran two years ago. He was born in Indiana. After being called out on his deception, he switched that claim to saying he is the “fourth generation in his family to live and work in Arizona.” A lie to a stretch when challenged? That works for Benny!
He also lied about his involvement in a raunchy blog called “The Dirty,” finally having to admit his deception when proof was offered. Before he became a father, he tried to pass off other children as his own on a campaign mailer. Ben Qualye had/has nothing to recommend him for congress except connections. That’s certainly not the case with David Schweikert, who has served in the AZ state legislature and was Maricopa County Treasurer. He’s also had real jobs in the real world. He is a businessman and a damn good congressman. There’s no contest here.

  2. Hunter says:

Maybe Quayle can switch back to CD9 by claiming that’s what he meant all along, but he had the 9 turned upside down by accident.

    • Maggie says:

Great idea! With his background of pulling such stunts, he should easily make a go of that. I thought it was real sweet when his daddy made his 2010 campaign announcement instead of letting Ben do it for himself. He probably knew Ben would screw it up.

  3. Sgt. Preston says:

Schweikert is right on the money with what he says. Quayle should be running in the new District 9 where he lives. He wants everything handed to him on a silver platter, even if the platter isn’t his. I’ve lived in Phoenix for many years and have never seen anything like this before. I hope I never see it again. Challenging another Republican incumbent is reptillian. Very low.

  4. LD 7 PC says:

What kind of advisors does the Quaylet have to guide him in this direction? Challenging a conservative like David Schweikert is a no-win, even if he were to win, which I sincerely hope does not happen. Quayle’s only success in this venture is in ticking off a lot of people. The numbers are not so bad in CD 9 that he couldn’t win. Is he conceding it to the Democrat? This guy has a major screw loose.

  5. Blackbeard says:

What a shame when our Republicans act in this manner. I heard Ben Quayle getting the softballs lobbed at him by KFYI’s Michael Broomhead on the way home this evening. Quayle had his spoon fed talking point that he recited over and over….”2/3 of my constituents live in that district.” The aptly named Broomhead never asked him about Schweikert’s constituency or the fact that Quayle doesn’t even live in the district where “his” constituents reside. His office isn’t even without the boundaries! He did ask him about his thoughts on sports! I hope Quayle gets his royal ass kicked.

  6. Night Owl says:

This is such a bad political move. We shouldn’t have to endure this spectacle of Republicans taking on other incumbents. There are plenty of Democrats out there. Is Quayle worred that he’d get beaten by Kyrsten Sinema? Surely he doesn’t have to worry about that!

  7. phoenix48a says:

Perfect bookend to the news report of David riding the same flight and ‘gentleman Ben’ failing to mention he’d made the stupid decision to run amuck.

Couldn’t even walk to the front to announce like a man? Wow.

Talk about deer in the headlights. Politics is a contact sport sport. No room for kiddies who need to waddle with a safty jacket in the shallow end.

Schweikert is gonna roll in a laugher – figuratively and literally!

  8. Chandler Conservative says:

David was the one who ran amuck here. He laid claim to the district before the IRC maps fully played out and before Ben could make a decision (since they screwed him by a couple blocks for a district that is 63% his to begin with).

You can slam Ben all you want but his conservative ratings are right on par with David.

So let’s stop the whole Ben is wrong, carpetbagger, BS. He has ever right to claim this district for his own. And again, it was David who threw the first punch.

And stop this BS about Ben running in his “home” district that is CD9. That gerrymandered district in no way represents his district of last. On contrast, it does represent David’s….but let’s not let logic get in the way of badmouthing Ben.

The simple fact is these two are fighting out for a 10 year seat and potentially to be the person to replace McAmnesty.

    • John Q says:

When Benny decides to run outside of his own district which has a Republican majority and where our statewide candidates in 2010 won impressively, and in doing so, Benny causes a Primary contest that will damage both candidates as well as suck up a huge amount of the conservative money.

Benny, if he would grow up, could have been the person to replace McKyl. With the current race of Flake/Cardon, Benny could have been a viable alternative, and odds on to win.

  9. AnObservation says:

Why do the Quayle people keeping going back to the 63 percent number? Is that what they are going to run on? Are we going to see TV ads that say “I used to represent 63 percent of you. Vote for me, Ben Quayle.” If that is all they got against Schweikert, they are going to lose…bad. Lets not forget that the battle is going to occur in a Republican primary. I would reckon based on what I have seen of the voter registration numbers in the area that the Republican split between Schweikert’s and Quayle’s district is closer to 50-50. Factoring in Schweikert’s performance in his primary in 2010 and Quayle’s in his primary in 2010, I think it is pretty clear Schweikert has an advantage right out of the gate in that regard.

So what about issues? Yes they have pretty similar voting records but Quayle supported SOPA and the NDAA in addition to failing to co-sponsor and help advance key pieces of legislation.

    Schweikert: http://heritageactionscorecard.com/scorecard/index.html#S001183#member).
On that account, I think Schweikert will have the advantage.

Experience and ties to the district? Do I even need to waste my time on this? Schweikert. Any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

There are worse Republicans in the Congress than Ben Quayle. But between him and Schweikert in the 6th.. there is no debate Schweikert is the man.
