Dem Miranda makes hasty exit from AZ House

The news that AZ Legislative District 13 Democrat Rep. Richard Miranda submitted his resignation from office today is causing many to wonder what has driven the hasty departure.

Miranda was first elected to the state senate in 2002. He was currently representing LD 13 in the House of Representatives and had recently filed his intent to run next session with the Secretary of State.

In a letter to Speaker Andy Tobin, Miranda reportedly cited “health reasons and personal family issues” as his reason for submitting his resignation.

His resignation is effective as of Monday, but he has been removed from the member roster and all contact information is gone as of today.

“Health reasons AND personal family issues?” This sounds like a take your pick, but my health could be in jeopardy if……

Very intriguing, to say the least.

There’s got to be one hell of a story behind this bolting out of office.

  3. Doc says:

Hey Gang…one less socio-dem to contend with! He’s from LD-13, aye???

    • Vince says:

Nothing much to cheer about, Doc, except that they’ll be one less Dem vote for a short time only. He’ll be replaced with another. District 13 is heavily Democrat. Both House members and the Senator are Democrats. It’s Tolleson and the surrounding environs.

  4. Doc says:

    Well…It was a nice thought anyway…

I heard on the news that Miranda has missed over a week’s worth of days at the legislature since the session began in January. and he hasn’t shown up for his job in the House in ten days.
It sounds as though something has been brewing for some time.

This could actually be bad for us. The Mirandas are not in the same mold as the crazies like Gallardo, Prezelski, Aboud, Patterson etc. It is most likely that his replacement will be a very extreme ideologue. Not good

The line that comes to mind is one of my favorites from a politician,. Former Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards, a colorful dandy who ultimately served a prison sentence, was once quoted as saying, “The only way I can lose this election is if I’m caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy.”

When I lived in Louisiana, despite his flaws, he was quite popular. When he was challenged by Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke, bumper stickers all over the state read “Vote for the Crook. It’s Important.” I had one on my car!!
