Former Dallas Police Assistant Chief takes reins of nation’s 6th largest city
Phoenix City Manager David Cavazos has named Daniel V. Garcia to head the Phoenix Police Deparment.
Other finalists included acting Phoenix Police Chief Joe Yahner, Phoenix Assistant Police Chief Kevin Robinson and to former San Jose Police Chief Robert Davis.
The Phoenix Police Department has approximately 3,055 sworn officers and a budget of over $500 million. Garcia is expected to begin his new assignment in May.
Here is Garcia’s 13-page redacted résumé, courtesy of the daily newspaper.

Keep an eye out for what badphoenixcops.blogspot.com has to say about this guy in the future. The info on that website will make you wonder how such a flawed agency can function. (Note: they tell it like it is, which can be raw.)
You are exactly right. The language on the site is rough – but what is written is true. The corruption in the Phx PD runs deep. And he has only focused on a few, there are many more that need to be exposed and fired. Garcia has a huge mess to clean up (hopefully he will for the citizens of Phx sake and the rule of law).
What happened to Phoenix Police Chief Joe Yahner? Isn’t it best for the moral of the PPD to promote from within?
His name’s not Garcia.
As I stated, read badphoenixcops.blogspot.com.
This agency is in serious need of an overhaul. History has shown that promoting from within has only emboldened the bad apples.
Yahner is a FOJ (Friend of Jack) and no he is part of the problem regarding the corruption.
Actually given the messed up condition of the PPD thanks to Mr. Harris, it was probably best to recruit from the outside. will be easier to clean house if needed and close the door on the old PPD.
I see from his resume, Garcia’s current salary in Dallas is $125,644. How much do you want to bet cash-strapped, food-taxing Phoenix will pay him consideralby more? After all the geese taxpayers are here to continue laying the golden eggs.
Dallas?? Is that the Dallas in Texas??
Interesting to note that Texas is a Sanctuary State for illegal aliens, under the dictate of Governor (and former presidential candidate) Rick Perry. Houston, the Texas city that leads the pack, is now embroiled in lawsuits over its strict Sanctuary City policies, and the resultant deaths of legal Houston residents and police officers at the hands of protected illegal aliens.
Don’t know exactly how Dallas falls in line with Texas doctrine. Could it be that the Phoenix city council has gone outside specifically to find another sympathetic expert on this issue? Just don’t know—yet.
God bless America, including Phoenix.
