New Senate President: Andy Biggs
We recently posted about a resolution passed by the Executive Guidance Committee (EGC) of the Maricopa County Republican Committee, as it took on ineffective and disappointingly left-leaning Republican Party leadership via this resolution:
“Be it resolved that due to their lack of support of key Republican principles by withholding key legislation and the misuse of the Republican Victory Fund, the Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC) does not support the reelection of Andy Tobin as Speaker of the House or Steve Pierce as Senate President.”
At the time of the post, both Pinal County and Maricopa County GOP officials had voted to take the unprecedented strong action. In recent days they were joined by Gila, Navajo and Santa Cruz counties.
Today legislative leadership for the upcoming session was elected. As expected, Steve Pierce was ousted as Senate President, replaced by conservative Andy Biggs (R-LD 12). The new Senate Majority Leader is John McComish (LD-18). Adam Driggs (LD-28) will be Whip.
Biggs, a U of A law school graduate, is well regarded and known as a Constitutional scholar and fiscal watchdog. He was the 2011 recipient of the Barry M. Goldwater Legislator of the Year award, presented by the Arizona Chapter of Americans For Prosperity. He was named #1 friend of the taxpayer by the Arizona Federation of Taxpayers and has been honored numerous times by the Goldwater Institute as a friend of Liberty.
On the House side, Andy Tobin (LD-1) remains Speaker. Majority leader is David Gowan (LD-14) and Rick Gray (LD-21) was chosen as Whip.
Andy Biggs is a stand-up guy. His picture is beside the word “Integrity” in the dictionary. The same could never be said of either Steve Pierce or Andy Tobin. Glad Pierce is out of leadership. You can’t lead if you are intent on dividing.
If, indeed you have ‘seen it all,’ then you know that the TEA people are fading out fast. There is not an once of difference between Biggs and Pearce. Ya’ll need to get over it, or just walk back out of OUR Party. Please. And don’t let the door hit ya on the way out.
Birds of a feather ….
NOT impressed!
The Goldwater Institute is not Conservative. Jeff Flake is a former Executive Director of the Goldwater Institute. Clint Bolick is working on a book with Jeb Bush which will tell us why we need to support illegal immigration and illegal aliens.
“Andy Tobin remains Speaker.” Gag me with a spoon!
Your comments about Flake and Bolick are correct. Ditto your take on the Goldwater Institute. Bolick came out with a couple of scathing reports on Sheriff Joe Arpaio that were infuriating. But Andy Biggs winning the Friend of Liberty award should not be misconstrued. He is a solid, fiscal and social conservative, with the leadership skills we sorely need after having Steve Pierce trying to running the senate. Keep your eye on Biggs. You’ll be impressed.
May be, but with frolicsome sidekicks McComish (Chamber of Commerce strumpet) and immigration lawer Driggs in the mix, the session will go down like the last one, with the term “illegal immigration” stricken from the agenda. That 03/11 ‘bitch slap’ from Glenn Hamer has a long shelf life.
NBC is reporting that by 2016, Alabama, Texas, and Arizona could become Hispanically “in play” for national elections.
Z… Z… Z… ZOO! Lay it down, warrior! :-)
Terrific about Andy Biggs and good riddance to Pierce. Biggs would have been senate president last session except one conservative senator stabbed him in the back. Too bad Tobin is still in leadership. Here’s hoping his union thug buddies aren’t overly represented by him like during the last session.
Sadly, RINOS McComish and Driggs will be a thorn in Biggs’ side and fight him all the way on some issues.
…maybe after seein’ what happened to Senator Pierce, they’ll behave themselves…
…or not…
Jeff Flake was removed from the House Judiciary Committee by the Republican leadership for “bad behavior” and look what happened to him!
John McComish voted FOR Andy Biggs. McComish will have a different take on many things because he has a different constituency, but he’s also come a long way as he’s seen what the grassroots are about and what they can do. Biggs and McComish will work together from different angles. We’ll need to watch the Senate, but we always would anyway.
Tobin, now that’s a crying shame. Why did the Conservatives put up a House freshman against him?
This is a great start – Godspeed to Senator Biggs and our conservative state legislators.
NOW, let the halls ring with our cries to our federal representatives that the next battle to adopt in saving our precious country is to GET RID OF BOEHNER.
Let’s elect a Republican to lead the Republicans. BOOT BOEHNER
God bless America.
BOEHNER IS A coward…playin’ golf with that socialist rookie. I sent him a letter th’ last time he kicked th’ “Budget-Can” down th’ road! He definately needs to go HOWEVER…he won’t…
Um, Democrats didn’t run a candidate against him in the election. He ran unopposed. Does that tell you anything, Doc?
I’m with you, Leo! BOOT BOEHNER!
Twice Boehner has actively backed candidates who support same-sex marriage and abortion. First Scozzafava in New York and, this time around, Tisei in Massachusetts. Both Scozzafava and Tisei lost after sucking up at least $1 million in Republican money each! That’s not counting outside money!
I think that we should all contact our respective House members and tell them that we want Boehner out as Speaker and as leader of House Republicans!
