Wastin’ away again in Agendaville

Some people claim that there’s a sheriff to blame……

The fish-wrapper, unable to restrain itself for any length of time, is going after Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, yet again. Today’s ridiculous lead editorial titled, Paranoia-ville, accuses the popular and effective sheriff of wasting tax dollars on a public records request.

What has the daily riled today is that a “140-pound reporter” from the seamy alternative weekly newspaper demanded to see what Arpaio’s deputies were copying. When his request was denied, an assistant city attorney was called in, and declared that the scrawny reporter had the same right as the deputies to view the documents.

All true.

The slim reporter is free to make his own public records request.

But, he does not have authority to view the documents simultaneously with the sheriff‘s employees. Since the daily often demands public records, we can’t help but wonder if it would accord a citizen who walked in off the street the same access they now declare is the reporter’s right—while they were inspecting the records they received, pursuant to their own demand?

Betch’a it wouldn’t happen. Neither would it rate an editorial, with the sub-head, More waste from the sheriff’s office.

The Arizona Republic is only consistant in its inconsistancies.

They clearly support open borders and despise the law enforcemnt authorities who are elected to do the work their offices demand. Excellent point in the post about the newspaper allowing anyone to come in on their public records requests. That would NEVER happen.

What I admire about Arpaio is his singleminded devotion to his work. He continues to do his job and seems not to notice the gnat on his backside— which the Republic has become.

  3. Joe Evans says:

Try as they might, the Republic’s reporters and editors don’t register a blip on Arpaio’s radar. Good for him.

Enjoyed the Jimmy Buffett lyrics under the link.!! How clever!

    “…But what they won’t say is (da-da-da-da-da)
It’s their own damn fault…” (with apologies to J. Buffett).

The New Times reportage on Arpaio – alluded to in the AZ Repulsive article – has been libelous to say the least. If ganging-up on Arpaio in this manner wasn’t so sinister, it would almost be laughable – in fact it is laughable to those who are acquainted with the Repulsive’s longstanding habit of conducting doctored-up smear campaigns. The Repulsive trying to lend credibility to that rag – it’s the blind leading the blind.

Aha!! “It’s their own damn fault,” is the memorable line. You did it again, RA.
