The politics of religion

The Catholic Church’s opposition to abortion and its endorsement of the pro-marriage resolution in California, Proposition 8, has triggered an avalanche of criticism.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue’s response:

“Even worse are American Atheists, Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the Freedom from Religion Foundation. All accuse the Catholic Church of abusing its power by favoring Proposition 8, yet none says anything about the more than 100 houses of worship and religious organizations which oppose it. Their hypocrisy is appalling.”

A sampling of the assaults being leveled can be seen here.

I’ve seen a lot of elections, but the amount of outright lies in this one is daunting….almost! Just makes me more committed to calling them out, just like Donohue does. Sic’em Bill!

The amount of backlash being leveled at people of faith for standing up for THEIR first amendment rights is appalling. If gays were being harassed in this manner it would be called a hate crime. It’s time we took our country back from those who would silence anyone who does not agree with their left wing agenda. We need to shut down gay marriage once and for all in a manner that will stop judges who want to legislate from the bench cold in their tracks. Hopefully California and Arizona will set the tone.
