Another Senator Kennedy in the wings?

Political dynasties: A serious contagion

Caroline Kennedy (what happened to Schlossberg?) is reported to be making quiet overtures to New York Gov. David Paterson, regarding her interest in being appointed to the senate seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton. Clinton has been nominated by president-elect Obama to serve as Secretary of State.

Kennedy is easily the most famous contender for Clinton’s Senate seat, although the list is lengthy.

An early supporter of Barack Obama’s presidential bid, Caroline Kennedy was a member of the vice-presidential search committee that eventually settled on Joe Biden. If that’s an indication of her political acumen, we should prepare for the worst.

In January 2008 she wrote an op-ed column for The New York Times declaring her support for Obama, saying he had the potential to be as inspirational to Americans as her father was in the 1960s. She also spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza opines on the possibility here.

Swell. Just what we need. Another liberal Kennedy who can woo the Dems with the “majesty” of that oh-so-powerful moniker. She was out in front early for Obama and Gov. Paterson will remember that — as will BO. She has nothing to recommend her but the mystique of the name.

That’s all she needs, my friend. Without any glee, I’m putting my money on Caroline.

With Uncle Teddy on his way out, the Kennedy’s obviously find it unthinkable not to have one of their own in the select 100.
