Sheriff’s chief sets the unwarranted warrant record straight

In a My Turn column in today’s newspaper, Paul Chagolla, a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy chief, addresses the recent misleading column by pro-illegal-immigration advocate Clint Bolick, in which Bolick claimed “not a single… deputy is assigned to serve warrants.”

Chagolla responds, “Why has the number of warrants in the repository become an issue for the Legislature, politicians, media, pro-illegal-immigration advocates and Mr. Bolick? The answer lies in Sheriff Arpaio’s enforcement of state and federal immigration laws. Former Gov. Janet Napolitano, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox and other elected officials began using this topic in attempts to direct the sheriff away from arresting illegal immigrants who violate the law. This is Clint Bolick’s agenda, too.”

The simple truth is that the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is committed to serving warrants, and it is committed to enforcing illegal-immigration laws. It can and will do both,” asserts Chagolla.

We recommend reading Chagolla’s fine response. It will provide insights not found in the mainstream media.

Paul Chagolla did an excellent job with this topic. Thanks for posting his article. I rarely see the Republic anymore.

I’m at a loss to explain the hammering of the sheriff and his officers that Clint Bolick is engaging in. Since when did open borders become an issue for the Goldwater Institute? I thought they were all about libertarian ideas relating to constitutional liberty. Where does violating the laws of the land to gain access illegally fit into the equation?

  2. Vince says:

Deputy chief Chagolla condensed this issue down to its nub when he called out former Gov. Janet Napolitano, Phoenix’s egotistical sanctuary city Mayor Phil Gordon and County Supervisor and Mexican food restaurateur Mary Rose Wilcox as being the core of those who have normalizing illegals as their agenda.

The people I talk with are grateful to have a sheriff like Joe Arpaio doing his job without regard for the vocal amnesty supporters.

Gary, Glad to hear you call out Clint Bolick for his attacks against our great law enforcement Officer, Sheriff Arpaio. Law and order are important issues to me. They are my biggest criteria in over 30 years of voting. Bolick can spend his hours dreaming of a libertarian utopia. I’m more concerned about my wife who leaves for work at 6:30 AM. I want to know the toughest law enforcement possible is watching over my loved ones. Viva Arpaio!

    Bolick? Bollocks!
