McCain’s last stand?

The National Journal’s Hotline On Call exposes the heavy hand of John McCain in the Arizona political arena as his surrogates attempt to kick sand in the face of the state Republican party apparatus. Few of the party’s grassroots activists are keen on the old maverick.

McCain, facing a formidable challenger in former Congressman J.D. Hayworth, the favorite of GOP conservatives, is off his game and making shaky, fear-based decisions.

The Hotline On Call article relates to two exposés of the high-stakes, behind-the-scenes shenanigans previously reported on Seeing Red AZ here  (“McCain suffers another defeat at hands of grassroots Republicans“) and here (“Victory for whom? McCain-led stakeholders opt to shackle AZ GOP”).

I just returned from the amazing outpouring of support for JD Hayworth at the volunteer event at his headquarters. It was great to see so many people who are willing to take time from their weekend morning to get behind this important race. I got choked up when JD was so moved by the huge crowd, knowing that I was involved in something very meaningful. Please keep up your support for JD. The mainstream media will never do the job.

Glad to see this type of coverage of the truth of McCain’s heavy handedness. The average voter has no idea what those of us involved in the AZ GOP know all too well. My observation has been that the only ones giving strong support to McCain are those who stand to benefit from his coattails, paid staffers or newcomers who have heard his name over the years and really have little information about the untrustworthiness of the self proclaimed “maverick.”

How interesting. I was unaware of these behind the scenes goings on. Shouldn’t be be fighting to replace Democrats instead of each other? This is another reason to give McCain a much needed, and permanent, vacation.

Couldn’t make it to the rally, but I will definitely be involved in this effort to unseat John McCain. Nearly 30 years in Congress is too long. He needs to take it easy in a nice retirement and let Arizona Republicans have some real representation in Washington. I’m sick and tired of McCain acting like a democrat.
