John McCain, Pelosi: apologists for Al-Jazeera

May 29, 2011

Drinking the Qatar Kool-Aid

At the inaugural Al-Jazeera U.S. Forum held recently in Washington. D.C., John McCain said he was proud to have been the first U.S. Senator to travel to Al-Jazeera’s headquarters in Doha– “not a bad place that you’ve got going on there”  — he joked as he sat for interviews with the biased news network known as a mouthpiece for terrorists.

“We live in a new era,” he said. “What Al-Jazeera has done is achieved something that all of us I think want to achieve, particularly as we grow older, and that is to make a contribution that will last and will be brought to future generations that lie ahead of us.”

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi also thought this was the place to quip, as she opened her remarks with a nod to the fact that, not so long ago, so much praise of Al-Jazeera from such a high-ranking member of Congress would have been controversial. “I’m very delighted to be here with Senator McCain,” she wisecracked. “When I accepted this invitation to speak here this evening, I didn’t realize that he was going to be here until I arrived. You can just imagine how happy I was to see him, because I was preparing for the onslaught of criticism that I was going to receive. But now I’m covered!”

The room erupted in laughter.

Journalist Cliff Kincaid, writing for NewsWithViews, gives this cogent assessment of McCain’s bizarre behavior: “The only explanation that makes any sense is that Al-Jazeera constitutes another channel that can give — and has given — McCain favorable publicity. The Arizona Senator has a reputation as a favorite of the press who is always anxious to get in front of a TV camera. In this regard, Al-Jazeera simply constitutes another outlet, albeit an unsavory one, that he can use to promote himself. He may, however, find that it will turn on him — and the West — after Gaddafi is overthrown and the Muslim Brotherhood takes power.”

Kincaid wrote this exposé on the launching of the English language version of the Arabist propaganda machine: Enemy Propaganda on Al-Jazeera English.

Take time also to read Media Research Center’s Brent Bozell’s Who’s Soft on Propaganda? which shines a bright light on the Arab-propaganda spin machine. Bozell and Kincaid have covered the topic since the onset of the English language network.

Al-Jazeera English broadcasts as a 24-hour news and current affairs channel, with strategically placed broadcast centers in Doha (Qatar), London, Washington D.C. and Kuala Lumpur with more than 70 bureaus around the world, dedicated to getting their one-sided message disseminated.

Gov. Rick Perry: Weak on the border, opposes SB1070

May 28, 2011

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is reported to be weighing a presidential run. But even as a border state governor whose own southern border is a war zonehe stands firmly against Arizona’s SB 1070.

Ciudad Juarez — where the Juarez and Sinaloa cartels are battling over drug-trafficking routes, abuts El Paso, Texas. Last year the death toll in the region stood at 3,111. According to this report in the LA Times, 2011 projections will be closer to 5,000 dead.

But Perry, sounding an awful lot like George W. Bush, who callously allowed illegal immigration to escalate, says: “Texas has a rich history with Mexico, our largest trading partner, and we share more than 1,200 miles of border, more than any other state. As the debate on immigration reform intensifies, the focus must remain on border security and the federal government’s failure to adequately protect our borders.”

John McCain has perfected the line “We must secure our border first.” (Watch his waffle on this link while speaking to Sean Hannity). Jeff Flake, running to replace Jon Kyl in the U.S. Senate has become adept using the same coded talk.  The question to ask is “First before what?”

The answer has always been amnesty.

Fulton Brock: Father of the Year denied parenting class waiver

May 28, 2011

Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock is divorcing his sexual predator wife, Susan, 49. The disturbing story of his wife and daughter Rachel, 22, molesting the same boy since he was 14,  doesn’t get better with the addition of new facts. The victim is the son of a family friend who attends the Brock’s church.

Fulton kanoodles with Susan on the jail phone, chatting and joking as she playfully teases him and he recklessly responds by seeking to call in his chips with other elected officials to get her special treatment, hide evidence and in violation of jail rules, brings her edible treats.

Remember the initial revulsion after seeing a youth with grotesque and irreversible neck and hand tattoos, yet there was an inability to turn away?  Same deal here, with the story becoming both more repulsive and transfixing.  Brock claimed to be “flabbergasted” by the revelations of ongoing molestations, though he and his pedophile wife actually met with LDS Church officials to discuss the matter. Brock has tainted his own reputation throughout this entire unsavory mess.

The latest winkle in this sordid tale is Brock’s request to bypass the mandatory parenting class required of all divorcing parents of minor children in Arizona. Brock considers himself a “public figure,” and has arrogantly petitioned for a waiver from the statutorily required class.  Superior Court Judge Robert Miles, who is presiding over the Brock divorce, has denied the motion.

Fulton Brock’s days as a “public figure” should be coming to a close. He could put his free time to good use by taking a series of parenting classes. What an appropriate Father’s Day gift for this dude.

Culture Warriors need more armor

The absurdities of gay cars and genderless children

Bill O’Reilly has a segment on his program called Culture Warriors in which he analyzes the distinctions between secular-progressives and those who hold conservative, faith-based values.

Using O’Reilly’s guide, we present for your end-of-week consideration, two oddities for perusal.

Yesterday’s edition of the daily carried a bizarre article on a “gay” car show being held by the AZ Gay Car Club at the Biltmore Resort. There was no way to identify how many of the approximately 100 cars on display were actually happy, but what the heck, we’ll take their word for it.  However,  the fact that the group announced it is hosting a tailgate breakfast was more than we needed to know.

That oddity was followed by one even stranger.

The Toronto Star reports on a Canadian couple — Kathy Witterick 38, and her husband David Stocker 39, — who have decided to raise a “genderless” child they have named Storm.

Storm has two siblings Jazz, 5, and Kio, 2, known to be boys. Witterick and Stocker believe they are giving their children the freedom to choose who they want to be, unconstrained by social norms about males and females. According to the report, Jazz and Kio have picked out their own clothes in the boys and girls sections of stores since they were 18 months old. Just this week, Jazz unearthed a pink dress at Value Village, which he loves because it “really poofs out at the bottom. It feels so nice.” The boys decide whether to cut their hair or let it grow.

“In fact, in not telling the gender of my precious baby, I am saying to the world, ‘Please can you just let Storm discover for him/herself what s(he) wants to be?” Witterick contends.

Although Stocker is a teacher at an unconventional school, Witterick practices “unschooling,” an offshoot of home-schooling centered on the belief that learning should be driven by a child’s curiosity.

The article states the obvious: “Both parents came from liberal families.”

Who’d a guessed?

United States run by machines as Obama AWOL

May 27, 2011

Liberals remain uncharacteristically silent regarding extension of Patriot Act

Just prior to its midnight expiration, Barack Obama purportedly signed into law a four-year extension of the Bush-era Patriot Act, allowing for continuation of post-September 11, 2001 authorization to search records and conduct roving wiretaps in pursuit of terrorists.

But with the often absent Obama now on an extended European junket, the White House actually used an autopen machine to sign the document. The machine holds a pen and replicates Obama’s authentic signature.

From France, Obama declared, “It’s an important tool for us to continue dealing with an ongoing terrorist threat.” He is not clear as to whether the tool he refers to is the signing machine or the Act which was so despised by liberals at its inception.

But there is little doubt he used a teleprompter to assist him in making the statement. He has problems working without a printed script as evidenced here.

US Supreme Court upholds Legal AZ Workers Act

May 26, 2011

The U.S. Supreme Court today upheld the Arizona law requiring all businesses verify their employees are in the country legally by means of utilizing the E-Verify program.

In accordance with Arizona’s 2007, Legal Arizona Workers Act, (“Employer Sanctions Law,” HB 2779), business licenses can be revoked or suspended for knowingly hiring illegal aliens. The law also requires Arizona employers to use the E-Verify federal electronic system, which validates the Social Security numbers and immigration status of employees.

Although the 5-3 ruling acknowledged that federal law says the government can’t make electronic checks of employees’ work-eligibility mandatory, the law does not bar states from doing so. Arizona’s law passes muster since it deals specifically with business licensing — an area states are allowed to control.

“Arizona’s procedures simply implement the sanctions that Congress expressly allowed the States to pursue through licensing laws,” Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr.  said in his opinion. “Given that Congress specifically preserved such authority for the States, it stands to reason that Congress did not intend to prevent the States from using appropriate tools to exercise that authority.”

Chief Justice Roberts wrote the decision. He was joined by Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Anthony Alito Jr.

Dissenting were Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The fourth Democrat, Justice Elena Kagan, was recused from participation since she worked on the case while serving as Barack Obama’s solicitor general.

U.S. District Judge Neil Wake rebuked a challenge to the law December 7, 2007, and even the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the law.

The complete 69-page Supreme Court Opinion (09-115) can be read here: CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ET AL. v. WHITING ET AL.

Glenn Hamer, president of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a ardent supporter of illegal labor profiteers, referred to the decision a as a “disappointment.” The U.S. Chamber of Commerce filed a separate suit, concerned that other states would follow Arizona’s lead.

An interesting aspect of this wearisome legal meandering is the fact that HB 2779 was signed into law July 2, 2007 by then Gov. Janet Napolitano — currently the Obama administration’s Homeland InSecurity Chieftain and a leading proponent of open borders.

Donald Beaty: Child rapist, murderer, finally executed

May 26, 2011

Twenty-seven years and nine hours is too long to wait for justice to be served

Read the statement issued by Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne regarding the last-minute technical objection by the Obama Justice Department, which further delayed the execution of this monster, Donald Beaty.

On May 9, 1984, Beaty lured 13-year old Christy Ann Fornoff, a newspaper delivery girl collecting from her Phoenix Gazette route customers, to his apartment. There, Beaty raped and suffocated Christy Ann. The young girl’s body was found two days later beside the apartment complex’s dumpster.

David Leibowtiz wrote this account in the February 2010 issue of Phoenix Magazine.
