Increased taxes, class warfare, mismanagement and anti-growth policies harm economy
“Every aspect of life in America today is worse than it was when [Barack Obama] took over. Unemployment higher. Interest rates. Everything is worse. The only thing that has gone down in America over the last two years is the value of your home. This president has mismanaged this economy. He’s been incompetent in his management of this economy. And now he’s offering these tax increases that are going to kill any chances of growing our economy and getting people back to work.”
– Florida Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio on Sean Hannity
Adding credibility to Rubio’s comments, is the intended-to-intimidate interview scheduled to air this evening on CBS News. Barack Obama threatens he can’t guarantee that retirees will receive their August 3 Social Security checks, if the tax increases he wants are not authorized by Congress — and the debt-ceiling raised. Looking ahead to his political future, he has said he refuses “to sign a 30-day or a 60-day or a 90-day extension.”
Obama told news anchor Scott Pelley “this is not just a matter of Social Security checks. These are veteran’s checks; these are folks on disability and their checks. There are about 70 million checks that go out.”
Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said Republicans would “do the responsible thing” to avoid default. “The president has presented us with three choices: smoke and mirrors, tax hikes, or default. Republicans choose none of the above. I had hoped to do good, but I refuse to do harm. So Republicans will choose a path that actually reflects the will of the people, which is to do the responsible thing and ensure that the government doesn’t default on its obligations,” McConnell said.
Meaning what, Mitch?
