AZ IRC chair Colleen Mathis facing possible ouster

Our sources indicate that Gov. Jan Brewer will call a special session tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. to address gerrymandering by the Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC).

Chairwoman Colleen Mathis could face removal if Republicans can muster a 2/3 vote in the Arizona senate.

This post provides additional background, including Gov. Brewer’s statement alleging gross misconduct, which can be read here, her letter to the commissioners and the pointed letter to commission Chair Mathis.

Let’s hope this is in the cards. I’d much rather see legislators who have their own constituencies to answer to, draw these lines as was the case before these unanswerable commissions were put in place. I’m always wary of names that sound so benign and have the word “independent’ in the title. That’s a sure sign they are swinging from the most massive agenda tree in the forest.

Independent Chair Mathis donated to Obama’s campaign then gets job in Tucson distributing Obama Stimulus Dollars (million to Uof A to study ant colonies). In return, Chair Mathis Bid Rigs, Vote Trades, destroys the ballot to get Strategic Telemetry elected as a mapper. ST had no prior mapping experience, double the cost, and needs 3 sub-contractors to show them what to do.

Why ST? ST’s main clients are Obama, Wisconsin Recall, various state progressive parties,, SEI, AFL-CIO and other mob-controlled unions. ST’s Mission Statement is “to convert non-progressives to progressivism”.

The entire Commission needs to be fired and the maps redrawn with transparency, non-partisan, and just plain fair. This is NOT fair and non-partisan:

Created ultimate in gerrymandering that US Attorney General will not approve: Mixes rural with urban, splits counties and stretches Yuma, Colorado City, Flagstaff, Mesa, Casa Grande, to Mexican border-just to help Dem Kirkpatrick return to office.

Solidifies Dem Grijalva by removing the conservative area of Yuma

Solidifies Dem Giffords by removing conservative Cochise County

GOP Quayle and Schweikert lost their districts

Carved out another gerrymandered district of Tempe, Ahwatukee, and Biltmore Arcadia (check that out on map ) to provide a special district for Naoplitano;s gal pal, Dem Sinema, to run unencumbered by any incumbents

Mesa has one district “packed” with 6 incumbents-GOP- of course (Pearce, Crandall, Ash, Court, Olson, Pierce).

The Dems even through Lewis under the bus. At the last second, they pulled Lewis’ residence (and none of the Mesa 6 incumbents) into the ASU Corridor. If Lewis wins the recall, Lewis will be trounced next year by ASU”s Shapira, one of the Dems’ favorites. Lewis will be used and abused to recall Pearce and then thrown on the progressive garbage heap. Pearce will easily win against unknown Crandall.

  3. Hunter says:

The Democrats should be removed as well. The legislature and governor should play hardball and cut funding for the Appeals Court Appointment (or whatever the exact name is) commission passing on nominees and for the State Supreme Court (whose head judge chairs that commission) if acceptable nominees are not provided.

The governor and Senate should make sure that “tame” Democrats are appointed to the Appeals Court Appointment commission to get better results. After all, Democrats do things like that – Kris Mayes (a “tame” Republican) appointed to fill a vacancy in the ACC, for example.

    • Jack says:

Colleen Mathis is a Democrat wearing “Independent” clothing. She’s much the same as the deceitful wolf in “Little Red Riding Hood.”

Everyone has a political bias, When people say the don’t and are simply “independent,” it’s clear they lean left and are doing their damndest to conceal it. Disgruntled Republicans become Libertarians. Dems lie for political advantage. Colleen Mathis would never have been selected as chairman if she was a Democrat, but she was able to pull a con through this slick trickery.

  4. Don says:

And Mathis was well paid by Obama with the cushy job in Tucson disbursing Obama Stimuls Dollars. Mathis is scared. Her lawyer husband is at her side every second. She is really just a parlimentarian now afraid of her own shadow. We are paying for 4 lawyers to defend three Dems and over the weekend, the Guilty 3 asked for more lawyers. Who in their right mind does not think they are guilty?

  5. SuzanneC says:

They have already blown through their 3 million dollars allotted for this effort. Stop the proceedings now, we have paid enough. Let them hire their own attorneys stop using my taxes to save their sorry butts. They know they have committed fraud on the tax payer, now let them do the time.

  6. Mohave Mike says:

Sincere best wishes to Gov. Brewer and the AZ legislators in their efforts to remove this massive and important task from the clutches of the leftist political operatives. I live in Lake Havasu and we are being segmented in unimaginable ways.

  7. marty smith says:

Our Buddy Randy Parraz is round up the troops for this special session.

Seems like Parraz and his ilk think the IRC is being unfairly targeted and Pearce is trying to crush the ‘will of the people”

Randy Parraz We need more people to sign up for tomorrow. Only 8 more days to go. Lets turn out in big numbers!

  8. Vince says:

I look forward to seeing the legislature and Gov. Brewer clean this mess up. Mathis has shown her true colors and needs to be replaced. She’s about as “Independent” as those lefty “occupiers” inhabiting the streets.

  9. TeaPartyPatriot says:

RINO brewer and the repub legislature screwed-up royally (AGAIN) when the commission was initially formed by not putting on it competent, strong, effective people to represent the interests of the overwhelming majority of Arizona citizens who are NOT d-cRAT socialist extremists.

So now they have to scramble to CYA and try to fix the horrific, d-cRAT socialist advantaged proposed districts by this rogue commission.

    Pathetic, truly pathetic.

  10. Tyler M says:

Now that Governor Brewer has made it official and called for a Special Legislative Session to remove Mathis, it’s up to the State Legislature to do the right thing and actually have the cajones to vote for her removal. I’m cautiously optimistic, but we still have a few snakes in the Republican Legislative Caucus who could disappoint.

If the State Legislature does the right thing and removes Mathis’s sorry liberal butt (and possibly even the two Dems who colluded with Mathis to break the law), it will be a glorious thing to watch Democrats weep & wail about how they were unable to pull the fast one on Arizona voters.

  11. Sgt. Flapjaw says:

There should be no compensation going to appointed commission members who are removed from their positions because of fraud or any other malfeasance.
Why do taxpayers have to pay for attorney’s? The essence of the situation is that the voters were the intended victims of these crimes, and they now are expected to pay for the criminal’s defence….Something is very wrong here!! I believe that there must be, or should be some voting rights violations perpetrated here.
I stand in favor of locking them up until after the next election cycle is completed. Then make them move [Back?] to California.
