Obama: No holiday adjournment for Congress
Tone-deaf Barack Obama and his family will spend 17 days in Hawaii on their annual Christmas vacation. No public events are scheduled for the trip, which is slated to run from December 17, 2011 to January 2, 2012.
News of the vacation comes on the heels of Obama declaring Congress shouldn’t adjourn for the holidays themselves until they pass an extension to the payroll tax cut. “We’re going to keep pushing Congress to make this happen. They shouldn’t go home for the holidays until they get this done,” Obama said today in his weekly radio address.
The Daily Mail reports that while the president’s family covers the cost of a private beach front vacation residence in Kailua, Oahu, nicknamed the ‘Winter White House,’ costing up to $3,500 a day, or $75,000 a month — America’s strapped taxpayers still foot the bill for the substantial security and travel costs. The Hawaii Reporter detailed the family’s similar vacation last year cost $1,474,200. Be sure to read the addendum to the original report at the bottom of the article, which included an additional $280,000.
The lengthy Christmas vacation follows Obama’s 11-day trip to Martha’s Vineyard when he and Michelle took separate flights — on the generosity of American taxpayers. We were also on the hook for Michelle’s separate flight to Hawaii last year, which according to a White House Dossier analysis likely cost taxpayers more than $63,000 — and possibly well in excess of $100,000 — in additional expenses.
Spending millions on vacations while the economy is in the tank is commonplace for this arrogant First Family. Let’s help them out and give them a permanent vacation in November 2012.
