Rick Santorum: The ultimate narcissist

Though lagging in delegates, it’s either him or Obama in Santorum’s bitter world

In the most shocking of statements, presidential candidate Rick Santorum said Republicans should give Barack Obama another term if he (Santorum) doesn’t win the GOP nomination.

“You win by giving people a choice,” Santorum said during a campaign swing through Texas. “You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who’s just going to be a little different than the person in there.” Santorum sarcastically added, “If they’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk of what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate for the future.”

Even rival Newt Gingrich appropriately tweeted: “Rick Santorum is dead wrong. Any GOP nominee will be better than Obama.”

Santorum was referencing Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom’s recent comment (Video link) that “everything changes” for the fall campaign. “It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch,” he spontaneously said on CNN. “You can kind of shake it up and we start all over again.”

Romney issued a statement expressing disappointment “that Rick Santorum would rather have Barack Obama as president than a Republican. This election is more important than any one person. It is about the future of America,” Romney said. “Any of the Republicans running would be better than President Obama and his record of failure.”

This was Santorum in 2008, before his ego got in the way and caused him to put himself before the future of the United States of America:

I was originally for this guy, but he has self-destructed in the
last few months of his attacks against his own Republicans.
He should have focused on Obama’s violation of this country’s
Constitution by his dictatorial mandates, and his CZARS making
decisions for the country without being elected officials, plus so
much more we know about Obama by now. Too bad, he looked
good before all the attacks against Romney.

    • Matt DeGennaro says:

Exactly. Santorum is Dead Man Walking. He knows it and wants to take the entire Republican party down with him. I’m thoroughly disgusted by him and his embarrassing and self-serving antics.

  2. Arizona Conservative Guy says:

Today Santorum is attempting to back away from his comment that the country might as well re-elect Barack Obama to a second term as president if Mitt Romney wins the GOP nomination.

There is no backing away from his irresponsible and arrogant stupidity. Santorum has lost it. He can go home and continue to play with his etch a sketch. He’s been too long at the fair and said too many idiotic things. How ould you like HIS finger on the button?

  3. Paul Marchant says:

he now joins the evangelist Bill Keller ‘i would vote for Satan before Romney’ crowd. go figure. i never heard a mormon care about W being an evangelical. must be about market share for these pastors. gotta earn a living somehow i suppose.

  4. Paul Marchant says:

Romney clearly baited Gingrich who had a good ‘anti Obama’ message in Iowa. Ginrich then turned his guns on Romney and imploded. Has Santorum fallen for the same ploy? and if so, let’s hope this is a prelude to a Romney/Obama fight.

  5. Teller Of Truth says:

Both Santorum and Gingrich have written the script for Obama’s campaign against Romney. They both make disgust me. Rather than telling American voters their own visions for turning this country around after the serious damage and trillions of dollars debt Obama has caused, they prefer to slice and dice Romney. Make no mistake, Romney will be the nominee. We need to support him over Obama.

  6. catsclaw says:

I am sad to say I voted for Santorum in the presidential preference election. I wish I could take it back. I’m not really thrilled with any of our Republican candidates, but they are all head and shoulders above Obama. For me this is about the judges, we as a nation cannot afford to have Obama appoint any more Supreme Court justices.

  7. GreenAcres says:

Must disagree with you. Close, but no cigar.

The American Psychiatric Association publishes the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, which goes into great detail regarding specific types of personality disorders.
(for inquiring minds, this manual is commonly referred to as the DSM IV, published in 1994).

Here is the quick definition and the criteria for making a diagnosis of Narcissist Personality Disorder:
“A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

    (1) has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

    (2) is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

    (3) believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

    (4) requires excessive admiration

    (5) has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations

    (6) is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends

    (7) lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others

    (8) is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her

    (9) shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes”

(Remember: five or more of the above criteria must be met before diagnosing this type of personality disorder.)

I believe that you will see that OBAMA is the Ultimate Narcissist. He is so deep into Narcissism, that if asked, he may well take credit for having written the above criteria, and the DSM publication, and any other book on any shelf in the library.

On the other hand, Rick Santorum may very well meet the criteria for Histrionic Personality Disorder, which is characterized by the following: (keep in mind his behavior at the televised debates)

    (1) overly dramatic

    (2) excessively emotional thinking or behavior

    (3) constantly seeking attention

    (4) excessive sensitivity when his opinions or actions are questioned

    (5) unstable mood

I’m not a Ron Paul supporter, but he’s absolutely right in this ad. He nails the juvenile mind that sits upon Santorum’s shoulders, I thought this was impressive!

  9. LEO IN TSN says:

Santorum has quickly moved to counter the MSM’s portrayal of his position in this issue. His remarks are being perpetuated and amplified by the MSM just to maintain this kind of controversy.

What IS being ignored by everyone, including SRA readers, is that Mitt “I created Obamaocare” Romney is a (now) self-admitted Etch-a-Sketch politician, willing to say anything he has to, depending on the audience. That is exactly how he got elected in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts, and he hasn’t changed at all. Santorum correctly describes him as obamao-light.

Anyone is better than obamoa, but don’t look for any great change in or from Romney.

    God bless America

    • ‘self admitted’ implies that Romney made the comment. As disturbing as it sounds, can we agree that this was made by a campaign advisor (one of many) and not Romney. Furthermore, we all know that there has to be a complete change of focus once we face Obama. Let’s hope Romney doesn’t go rhino but i think the underlings’ quote was misunderstood.

  10. ZOO says:

I don’t find the remarks “shocking” at all. Winding up with another GOPig candidate (Dole, McCain, Jeb Bush – all Romney endorsers) and possible White House occupant is, as the old saying goes, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. The Republicans only act like Republicans when they are on the outside looking in. Romney is a RINO at best and most conservatives have had a gut full of these “big tent” hawkers. This “take what you can get” philosophy does not cut the mustard anymore. Four more years of “hope and change” versus four years of “bait and switch” is right back on the “lessor of two evils” carnival ride. Invest in Dramamine.

      ZOO:
      Although I strongly disagree with your conclusions, I have two words for you to ponder when you think there is no difference between Republican Mitt Romney and Marxist Barack Hussein Obama (who will not be even slightly constrained in a second and final term);
