Thanksgiving wishes 2012

We take a moment to reflect today on the many blessings we enjoy as citizens of this great land, and wish the abundant bounties of this uniquely American holiday to each and every one of our readers.

 George Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to “recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

How refreshing to see this evidence of our first president who had no trouble acknowledging “Almighty God.” May His blessings continue shine down on the United States and each of us.

And thanks to those of you at Seeing Red for posting this and routinely keeping us updated. Happy Thanksgiving!

May we eventually return to such a state as Washington described.

I want to offer up a heaping bowl of thanksgiving for Seeing Red AZ, a great bastion of conservatism in this war of persecution from the Left. God bless all conservatives who continue to fight to preserve and protect our great country.

Our national heritage of law based in Judeo-Christian morality has followed us from our founding to this day, and we pause today to reflect on God’s greatness in creating this country. With SRA’s permission, here is another Presidential Proclamation [acknowledgement to the American Minute Oct 25, 2011 by William J. Federer].
On OCTOBER 25, 1887, President Grover Cleveland proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving and Prayer:
“The goodness and the mercy of God, which have followed the American people during all the days of the past year, claim their grateful recognition and humble acknowledgment.”
“By His omnipotent power He has protected us from war and pestilence and from every national calamity; by His gracious favor the earth has yielded a generous return…by His loving kindness the hearts of our people have been replenished… and by His unerring guidance we have been directed in the way of national prosperity. To the end that we may with one accord testify our gratitude for all these blessings, I, Grover Cleveland, President of the United States, do hereby designate and set apart…a day of thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by all the people of the land. On that day let all secular work and employment be suspended, and let our people assemble in their accustomed places of worship and with prayer and songs of praise give thanks to our Heavenly Father for all that He has done for us, while we humbly implore the forgiveness of our sins and a continuance of His mercy.”
So why would anyone want to “transform” US???
Happy Thanksgiving, and God bless America.

Dittos to Leo! Seeing Red AZ is the reliably conservative and reasoned voice that I turn to each day. Thanks for all you do. Best wishes on this all-American holiday

I join in sending best wishes to the folks at SRAZ and all of the commenters I enjoy, as well. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Happy Thanksgiving to SRAZ and fellow posters.

Evil times are ahead and it is important to remember that faith and our families are worth the fight that is coming. Rebuilding the conservative movement, reclaiming our culture and securing our country will never be as important as they are today.

May we remember friends and family who are no longer with us and the military that continues to protect us, often amidst scorn and derision. Bless all who have and will serve this country.

God grant us the strength and the wisdom needed for the times ahead.

    Blessings to all.

Washington was what a leader and president should be. Indeed, why would anyone want to fundamentally transform America? Transform her into what? God help us–please.
