An urgent message from Sheriff Joe Arpaio & Update

January 31, 2013

Seeing Red AZ urges support of our sheriff, Joe Arpaio

Fellow Patriot,

Just three weeks after I was sworn into office for a sixth term as Maricopa County Sheriff, a group of radical extremists filed a recall campaign to forcibly remove me from office.

This is very serious. These left-wing groups of agitators are the same ones who spent millions against me in last year’s campaign in an effort to defeat me. Because they didn’t like the outcome of that election they are now going to spend millions of dollars to force a recall election this coming fall.

So far they have raised over $1.3 million to defeat me!

These sore losers just never stop. They figure if they can force an election in an off-year they’ll be able to turn out every pro-illegal immigrant voter and steal this election. We saw them do the very same thing to an Arizona State Senator just over a year ago.

It’s clear that these people will go to any lengths to see me defeated and out of office. They’ll resurrect all the lies, distortions and personal attacks from last year’s campaign and use them against me this year.

And what is this all about really? Why do they hate me so much? It’s simple: I am the only law enforcement official in this state that enforces our laws against illegal immigration. Period. Everything else they’ll talk about is a deceptive smokescreen because they know they cannot win on the issue of enforcing the law.

In fact, in their statement about the recall this group claims that I don’t “respect, defend or protect the rights guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution!” This, coming from the same group of people who have waged a relentless campaign against me in an effort to stop enforcing the laws! I have sworn an oath to protect and defend our United States Constitution probably more times than these clowns have pledged allegiance to our flag.

You were such an important part of my victory last year even though we faced insurmountable odds. I certainly did not plan on this recall, but I have to ask you again for your support. The fight starts now. Over the next several months I am going to be bombarded with negative attacks and lies. I must have the necessary resources to defend my record and run a winning campaign.

But I don’t care what threats they make. I will never back down one inch when it comes to doing the job I was JUST elected to do. I will continue enforcing all the laws on the books no matter what the consequences.

I am going to need your help now more than ever before. This campaign starts NOW. CLICK HERE TO DONATE.

Trust me; I never dreamed I would have to come to you for a contribution again. But it’s clear that I must ask you for your support and your prayers if we are going to beat our opponents.
Thank you for everything you have done and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Very Sincerely Yours,
Sheriff Joe Arpaio
Maricopa County, Arizona

Paid for by Elect Sheriff Joe Arpaio

Using the absurd moniker “Respect Arizona,” the recall group filed with Robert Unferth listed as its only officer.

It’s obvious these malcontents hold no respect for the vote of the nearly 680,000 Maricopa County citizens, who recently returned Joe Arpaio to his post to begin serving an unprecedented sixth four-year term. In fact, they hold Arizona voters in contempt.

These people have previously registered as non-resident petition circulators. Since their addresses are redacted, the states where they actually reside are unavailable.

AZ Republic: Dem crook Arredondo “small fry”

January 31, 2013

What’s insignificant about raw greed and manipulation?

In the skewed, leftwing world of the Arizona Republic, the FBI sting that netted corrupt politician Ben Arredondo, was a “mind-boggling waste of time.”  In this morning’s sole, lengthy editorial the newspaper takes the position that the man who entered into a plea agreement recommending a sentence between 27 months and 51 months in prison is nothing more than “small fry.”

His plea was quite a deal. But he got off easier still with his recent slap-on-the-wrist sentence. Last October Arredondo, 65, pleaded guilty in federal court to two felonies related to public corruption. Each felony count carried a maximum prison sentence of up to 20 years and $250,000 in fines. Up to $50,000 in restitution could also apply. The plea deal included his resignation from the Arizona Legislature.

Among his brazen bad acts, the devious former state Rep. Arredondo sought donations for a college scholarship fund he had ostensibly set up for needy students. He then provided nearly $50,000 from the account to help his own relatives attend Arizona colleges.

Let’s not forget that this “small fry” was indicted on federal counts of bribery, mail fraud, false statements and extortion in connection with soliciting and accepting thousands of dollars in sport and charity event tickets along with other perks from FBI undercover agents in exchange for brokering property deals. The crimes occurred while Arredondo was a Tempe City Council member.

The Republic takes the position that there have been worse cases of politicians who run afoul of the law.  And who do they pointedly name? Two Republican governors, of course.  And “the AzScammers” lumped under that single title so they don’t have to name Democrats such as Senate Majority Whip Carolyn Walker, who holds the distinction of being the first senator in Arizona history to be expelled. In the early 1990’s AZSCAM sting, Walker greedily took $15,000 but asked for $750,000 to start a record company, while angling for gift shop concessions in casino hotels she hoped to bring into the state in exchange for selling her vote. Sen. Jesus “Chuy” Higuera merely wanted the shrimp concessions. Joining them was state Rep. Bobby Raymond, who also went to jail, as did Rep. Sue Laybe, videotaped counting out bribe money like a bank teller. Sting money she took was instrumental in winning her reelection in a swing district. In the sting, votes were being purchased in favor of bringing [non-reservation] Las Vegas-style casinos into the state.

Among the prominent political figures implicated were George Stragalas, executive director of the Arizona Democrat Party and David Manley, chairman of the Maricopa County Democrat Party.

The 13-month long sting resulted in charges of bribery, money laundering and filing false election statements.

Was that also too long and a “mind-boggling waste of time” for an equal betrayal of public trust?

Colo. Principal OKs “One nation under Allah”

Multiculturalism is a one way street

Tom Lopez, the principal at Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, Colo. defends the action of the Cultural Arms club to recite the Pledge of Allegiance in Arabic. He says the club seeks to “destroy the barriers and embrace the cultures” that exist within the high school. Lopez says “We have a tremendous amount of diversity in our school.”

It would be interesting to know if anyone has taught these fledgling goodwill ambassadors to diversity that their grand vision is not realized in any Arabic/Muslim society, where women are repressed and tyrannical Sharia law is strictly enforced.

Do they know that although the building of Islamic mosques are celebrated with glowing news coverage here, new construction of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues are disallowed in  Muslim controlled countries. The churches that do exist are ancient, decaying tourist stops, and permission to repair them is denied by the Islamic Imams. There are no vibrant congregations.

Yet when parents expressed outrage, Lopez said he was getting “worn down” by the complaints and the sense of “hate” among some of the critics. “I’ve been shocked with prejudicial statements that have been made,” he said. ” I’ve been shocked with the lack of seeking understanding.”

On the school’s website under “History,“ it boasts: “Rocky has always been on the cutting edge in terms of innovations and new ideas. It’s the Lobo way.” Of particular interest is the fact that Rocky Mountain High School shockingly graduates its students with 120 credits —  far below the mandatory pre-college requirements of 170. (See page 13 of 34 in this report). The same report (page 15) advises students taking the ACT Prep College Admission test, “If you don’t know the answers…guess.”

Lopez would be wiser to incorporate more education and less innovation. Our future depends on it.

This disturbing video explains the dire situation.

$2500 in prize money for buying liberal agenda

Although number one of the nine official rules to enter the Arizona Republic Gift Card Giveaway! obligatorily declares in large print NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR TO WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR ODDS OF WINNING. SUBJECT TO FEDERAL, STATE, LOCAL AND MUNICIPAL LAWS AND REGULATIONS. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED — you just know a purchase is precisely the intent of the money giveaway.

The Grand Prize is a $1500 Visa gift card. Ten $100 prizes are additional carrots dangled by the online-subscription hungry newspaper.  If you’re thinking this giveaway is merely post-holiday benevolence on the part of the newspaper, think again.  In minuscule type under the phone number to call “for a chance to win” is this small caveat: All call-ins will receive a promotional offer from The Arizona Republic.

Who’d a guessed?

Winners will be selected by a random drawing Wednesday, February 6, 2013. No doubt anticipatory palpitations are shaking through bodies around the state. Recent offers of an umbrella covered with the words, “Arizona Republic” and slashed online subscription rates didn’t bolster the sickly newspaper, barely clinging on life support. The decision-making wizards are hoping offers of hard cash will.

But reality includes grim statistics which can be seen in this annual report “The State of the News Media 2012,” as profit margins continue to decline for media companies and stocks fall across the board. Rapidly plummeting advertising revenues continue to be the industry’s core problem. Ad revenues are now less than half what they were in 2006. Additionally the 20-year view shows a steady slide in paid circulation. Daily circulation, which stood at 62.3 million in 1990, fell to 43.4 million by 2010, a decline of 30%.

Readership remains confined mainly to older readers, although that number is also falling. Even Grandpa can only stand so much liberal opinion passing as news, and has fled. He’s no fool, preferring those hot, smart, conservative babes on FOX News who deliver the unvarnished truth.

ASU parents: Has a terrorist been teaching your kids? & Update

January 29, 2013

Former ASU Prof Carlos Balsas being held in Philadelphia

A report in the Philadelphia Inquirer identifies former Arizona State University professor Carlos J. Balsas as the suspect who threatened to blow up the Liberty Bell early Saturday. He told  a security guard who searched his backpack at the Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia that he was carrying explosives.

“I have explosives in there,” he stated, before fleeing. U.S. Park Rangers arrested the uncooperative Balsas, 41, after a brief struggle.

According to the news article, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Philadelphia police bomb squad reported to the scene. Tests on the backpacks (two others were found) came back negative for explosives.

Balsas, a Tempe resident who taught at ASU from 2004 to 2011 faces charges of terrorism threats, bomb threats, possessing an instrument of crime, reckless endangerment, and related offenses. The joint investigation was carried out by the Philadelphia Police and FBI. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is expected to take over the investigation today

The Liberty Bell, originally cast in 1752,  is an iconic symbol of American independence.

Read the complete news report here. In this news video, a neighbor says she was frightened by his aggressive behavior and was considering filing a restraining order against Balsas. She had previously reported him to the Tempe Police Department based on interaction with him. Her uncle threatened to call the Department of Homeland Security.

Balsas taught at ASU’s Global Institute for Sustainability. Students rating Balsas gave him a mediocre grade, citing him as boring and his class so easy it wasn‘t worth the tedium of sitting through.

McCain tells GOP it must accept amnesty

January 28, 2013

McCain and Flake preempt Obama by leading Democrats on amnesty

The Hill is reporting (video included) on Sen. John McCain’s appearance on ABC’s “This Week” during which he said that the Republican Party has to accept a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants as part of a “comprehensive reform bill.”

“Look at the last election,” he said. “We are losing dramatically the Hispanic vote, which we think should be ours for a variety of reasons, and we’ve got to understand that.”

The double-talking McCain said “I’m giving you straight talk,” something has to be done with the “11 million” illegal immigrants “living in the shadows” in the United States — a fallacious figure that has been in use for the past decade.

Seeing Red AZ has written numerous posts on the duplicitous McCain and his position on this contentious issue. A few can be seen here, here, and here.

In 2007, national public outrage at the McCain/Kyl/Kennedy amnesty scheme resulted in the shut-down of congressional phone and fax lines, as indignant Americans expressed their ire over our own elected representatives seeking to reward ongoing and generational lawlessness. The tab picked up by American taxpayers is approximately $360 billion yearly* as we deal with the demands of a largely impoverished and uneducated population, skirting our generous legal immigration policies.

Each of Arizona’s U.S. Senators have used campaign-triggered deception, only to return to amnesty mode immediately after the votes were counted. Just last November, McCain and Kyl began work to “get the ball rolling” for Obama on overhauling America’s immigration system, that they coyly identified as providing a “special pathway to citizenship.”

Trusting them has been a fool’s mission.  Here was tough talking Kyl at his phony best. McCain in campaign mode? Watch. With Jon Kyl’s retirement, their endorsed and newly elected protégé Jeff Flake used the identical politically expedient reversal on illegal immigration, momentarily shaking up the folks at the Periódico de la República de Arizona (Arizona Republic).

Preempting Barack Obama, McCain and Flake lead a host of senate liberals in advancing this latest amnesty incarnation. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-ILL), Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Michael Bennet (D-CO) will join with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), and McCain sycophant Lindsey Grahamnesty (R-SC) to promote the plan that McCain admits is “not that much different from what we tried to do in 2007.”

They will do whatever it takes to keep the neon welcome light on at the border, regardless of the consequences. It all boils down to elections.  American security and the rule of law be damned.

Weekend reading guaranteed to make you smarter

January 27, 2013

In this recent column, Dr. Thomas Sowell takes on what he terms the moral superiority of liberals in several areas of society, including affirmative action, the destruction of the black family unit through the expansion of the welfare state and gun control.

As always, Thomas Sowell uses his words wisely and makes his points succinctly. This column, Liberalism Versus Blacks, is another quality offering from a brilliant mind.

We highly recommend it to you.

Robert Graham takes the helm of AZ GOP & Update

January 26, 2013

Conservatives sweep AZ GOP intra-party posts

Arizona Republicans have a new party leader. Robert Graham brings boundless energy and vitality to lead the party. He has pledged to defend the principles of the Constitution while implementing a meaningful vision going forward, keeping Arizona’s top elected offices in Republican hands.

A dynamic speaker, businessman and author Graham won in a runaway against challenger Doug Little, taking almost 70% of the vote. Graham defeated Little by a vote of 1,000 to 430 votes (30.07%).

The Statutory Meeting of the Republican State Committee drew 1,512 elected delegates. There were 927 in person and 585 by proxy.

The election results confirmed that the pro-life and illegal immigration issues diminished by Doug Little were actually key considerations in the election — affirmed by the 2.33  – 1 vote. In casting their ballots, delegates were clear his positions were inconsistent with the principles of the Republican Platform and the Constitution.

Also elected were AZ GOP Party Secretary Linda White, over Lynne Breyer and Treasurer Timothy Lee — who ran unchallenged and was elected by acclamation.

The gathering was opened with a stirring presentation of the colors by the Buffalo Soldiers and invocation by Rev. C. T. Wright. Congressmen Trent Franks — who supported Robert Graham — David Schweikert and Paul Gosar addressed the crowd.

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne, Treasurer Doug Ducey, Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal, Senate President Andy Biggs, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, County Attorney Bill Montgomery, and former state Senate President Russell Pearce were among those warmly received by the applauding crowd, often rising to give standing ovations.

Conspicuously absent?  Senators John McCain, Jeff Flake and Gov. Jan Brewer. State House Speaker Andy Tobin didn’t show up, instead sending a self-glorifying video presentation titled “Leadership.” It started in his early days and slid past his blatant union allegiances and questionable practices that have made him unpopular in many quarters.  Tobin’s legislative cohort Steve Pierce, recently ousted as Senate President, was also nowhere to be seen.

Former GOP chairman Tom Morrissey decided not to seek re-election.

AZ Sheriffs join others standing against BHO’s gun grab

January 26, 2013

Not here, not on our watch

Barack Obama’s push to limit firearms and ammo is meeting with strong resistance in Arizona. Three county sheriffs are joining a growing list of sheriffs across the nation who refuse to enforce any laws they believe to be unconstitutional.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu and Yavapai County Sheriff Scott Mascher stand with an ever growing number of sheriffs nationwide — now said to be over 100 —  who place the Second Amendment above Barack Obama’s “executive order” power grab.

Sheriff Paul Babeu has sent this letter to Obama stating that he will not obey unconstitutional executive orders banning firearms.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio said, “I took 10 oaths of office, and they all say I will defend the Constitution of the United States and the laws of my state, Arizona. I take that very seriously,“ adding. “I may not enforce the federal law.”

Stay tuned. This unified law enforcement show of support for the Second Amendment is just beginning.

Phoenix Mayor Stanton: An ambitious liberal to watch

January 25, 2013

“We should never let border security get in the way of the economy”

Phoenix’ Mayor Greg Stanton has made a comment so outlandish that we recommend it be committed to memory. “We should never let border security get in the way of the economy,” the ambitious leftist declared recently.  Stanton was in Washington D.C. last week meeting with mayors of Mexican border cities at the deceptive and extremist 21st Century Border Initiative. (Check out some of the links). Affiliate NDN is a major leftist think tank with a commitment to open borders.

Stanton, like his Arizona República cheerleader Linda Valdez, views Mexico as our route to economic recovery. In fact, Mexico has cost us hundreds of billions in remittances and is a top recipient of U.S. foreign aid, reported at $330 million.

This Cronkite News article,* stunning in its biased approach, was printed in the Phoenix News section of the Arizona Republic, and reports on the meeting.

Stanton must have missed this carefully worded directive from the U.S. Department of State detailing the unpredictability of violent crime including kidnappings, disappearances,  carjacking and highway robbery throughout Mexico, even warning that local police have been implicated in some of these incidents. U.S. citizens have been murdered and Mexican border towns have become bloody battlefields. Last year’s figures of nearly 11,000 victims killed since 2007 in the single border city of Ciudad Juarez, (abutting El Paso, Texas) — the vast majority had no involvement in the drug cartels.

The UK’s Daily Mail headlined this report detailing the brutal slaying of Morelia Mayor Maria Santos Gorrostieta, 36, kidnapped and murdered — after two previous assassination attempts by a Mexican drug gang, one of which killed her husband. She was slaughtered as she drove her young daughter to school. The Arizona Republic was unable to devote space to this tragedy.

Greg Stanton, who was congratulated on his mayoral win via calls from Barack Obama and Janet Napolitano, has higher aspirations.  His wife Nicole, also a lawyer, is making her own name among liberal groups. Keep this duo on your political radar. They are calculatingly angling deep into the circles of Dem power.
