LaFaro v. Gray: Principles trump Establishment

Lisa Gray the darling of left-leaning AZ Republic*

As those of you who are elected precinct committeemen are aware, the Statutory Meeting of the Maricopa County Republican Committee is this Saturday, January 12. It is at this internal party election that Maricopa County GOP officers will be elected. Nearly 3,300 precinct committeemen will be attending this meeting in person or by proxy.

This election will determine the direction and leadership of the fourth most populous county in the United States.

Last month we posted Lisa Gray’s MC GOP chair electability tainted by Tobin?  We are reposting it since the facts are worth reviewing in advance of tomorrow’s crucial election. Of primary  importance is the fact that establishment water-carrier Lisa Gray, married to the AZ House majority whip, cannot be impartial in the county leadership role she seeks. She has repeatedly demonstrated her allegiance to special interests over those of the county and state.

Lisa Gray’s conflict of interest with regard to House Speaker Andy Tobin and his connections to union support necessitates this review. We encourage our readers to review the links included in today’s post in order to get what Paul Harvey termed “The rest of the story.”

In November, we covered this resolution of censure directed at Speaker Tobin and Senate President Steve Pierce for their overt support of, and providing funding to, candidates running in opposition to conservatives in the 2012 Primary election.   “Be it resolved that due to their lack of support of key Republican principles by withholding key legislation and the misuse of the Republican Victory Fund, the Maricopa County Republican Committee (MCRC) does not support the reelection of Andy Tobin as Speaker of the House or Steve Pierce as Senate President.”

The measure passed with unprecedented strong action against Tobin and Pierce, by a 23 – 5 vote. It was shocking to those in attendance that both Lisa Gray and Rene Lopez (now running for County Chair and Second Vice Chair, respectively) voted against the resolution.

Shades of Gray?  Yes. We can do much better than ceding county leadership back to the establishment. Conservative endorsements are rolling in for A. J. LaFaro and his team of officers, April Riggins (First Vice Chair), Jose Borrajero (Second Vice Chair), Jeni White (Secretary) and David Ludwig (Treasurer). View their impressive list of endorsers here.

Seeing Red AZ stands in strong support of A. J. LaFaro and his team of conservative, Constitutional Platform Republicans. Check out their website here.  Join JD Hayworth, current chairman Rob Haney, and conservatives countywide who have endorsed “Team LaFaro” for Maricopa County GOP Leadership.

When the Arizona Republic’s Laurie Roberts sings the praises of Lisa Gray,* that tells us all we need to know.

  1. Arizona Conservative Guy says:

There is no question we need to elect the conservative team. For Lisa Gray to try to use that term as a means of gaining support is a joke. She is divisive and works in concert with the RINO faction of our Republican party. I urge support of AJ LaFaro and his slate. THEY are the conservatives. Don’t be fooled folks. See you tomorrow bright and early at Church for the Nations, 6225 N. Central Ave., Phoenix, AZ. Registration opens at 7:30 am. ! If you can’t attend, be sure you have given your proxy to any registered Republican in your precinct. Every vote counts!!

  2. says:

    Well stated!!!

  3. Ellsworth says:

The fact that has not been stated here is that Lisa Gray has the solid support of both the union colluders AND the McCainiacs. The far reaching consequences of this election are mind boggling.
We will stand witness to seeing the Arizona Republican Party be overtaken by those who call themselves “moderates” implying they can get along with everyone, when just the opposite is true. They are RINOS who have the single issue of removing principled conservatives from the party as their guide.

    • CD9 says:

Lisa had spent the big bux to beat A.J. and his team, I am glad the Conservatives remembered her collusion to get Tom Morrissey recalled. Lisa and her so-called Party Builders did not even bother to congradulate the winners. We watched and asked.

  4. Maggie says:

Lets get real, folks. There is also the smell test that doesn’t pass muster. The fact is that if she was elected as MC Chairman AND married to a politician tied to Tobin, the rank stench would be putrefyingly gaggable.

  5. Westnash says:

Is this job paid or unpaid?

    • LD 7 PC says:

Once again you show your lack of knowledge/involvement in the Arizona Republican Party. These posts are unpaid, unless you consider volunteering untold hours of time, attending countless meetings and taking a lot of grief and guff from those on the outside looking in, to be payment. You’re not even a precinct committeeman, are you Westnash?

    • John Q says:

You are a newbie, aren’t you. Unpaid positions all – LD, County and State officers.

    • MacBeth says:

Aha. Verification that euby has been right all along.. And, westnash, would you start this new year by staying on topic and not blasting others on a continual basis?

      • Westnash says:

Right on nothing you mean. This is on topic. I asked a question and dont blast another poster unless they start the scrap.

    • MacBeth says:

Sorry, Westnash, but you never let up. When you were a teen, you must have picked your pimples until they bled.

  6. Richard Wayne says:

Tobin – Adams – Gray TAG, you’re out! This group of public employee union thugs and illegal immigration sympathizers should never be allowed to be in GOP leadership at any level.

If they want to be leaders in a party that supports their positions, they should join the Democrat Party. Well, that won’t work unless they want to move to the dark blue depths of South Phoenix, Guadalupe, Tempe or Pima County.

Of course, there, they could not win a primary because they do not meet the secondary criteria as a racial minority. If they decide to take the leap, we could hope that they take Roberts and Petsas with them.

What a raunchy group. Team LaFaro is the only conservative option tomorrow if you believe in the Constitution and the Party Platform.

  7. LD 23 PC says:

This unprecedented press release went out today from LD 23 Republicans:
    Read it here:

“AJ LaFaro and his team have demonstrated, through their strict adherence to constitutional principles, that they are true Conservatives.
All five members of the team have spent long hours supporting grass roots Republican causes. The Maricopa County Republican Party will definitely benefit from the AJ LaFaro Team’s impressive and extensive experience and skill sets.
So we ask our fellow PCs in LD23 to join us in supporting AJ LaFaro as our next County Chairman, April Riggins as our next First Vice Chairman, Jose Borrajero as our next Second Vice Chairman, Jeni White as our next Secretary, and David Ludwig as our next Treasurer.

    Doug Little,
    Joe Romack,
    First Vice Chairman
    Joe Meli,
    Second Vice Chairman
    Linda Rizzo,
    Vera Heminger,

  8. Marne Haney says:

May I join these other voices of support for the LaFaro team, by asking our fellow PCs to keep the MC GOP independent voice alive. You could say I’ve had a front row seat watching what it takes to keep the MC GOP leadership on platform for at least the last 8 years.
As a former 1st Vice Chair of the county, I’d like to put in a plug for April, as well. Having an experienced former District Chairman of the caliber of April Riggins at LaFaro’s side, with the depth in leadership that she brings to the ticket, is another guarantee that truly conservative principles will guide us for years to come.

  9. Team LaFaro says:

Team LaFaro is working on preparations today — the men are preparing materials and the ladies are volunteering on event setup crew — but we wanted to take a quick moment to thank you all for your support and endorsement. We won’t let you down.

    • Sgt. Preston says:

The men are raising the barn and the ladies are pickling hog jowls. It sounds like preparations for an 1880’s church supper.

  10. Annie O. says:

I have been told by people who were at the EGC meeting where the resolution critical of Tobin was debated that although Colleen Lombard and Paul Brierley did not have a vote, they spoke against the resolution. So, 4 of the 5 members of Lisa’s slate defended Speaker Tobin’s actions against conservatives and their legislation.

And you don’t think that this slate would be Tobin’s and McCain’s tool? Give me a break! Oh, and did you know that the extreme far left rag, New Times, endorsed Lisa as did McCain’s web site, Political Mafio?

  11. MaskedTruthman says:

I was waiting…and waiting…and waiting to see who the Establishment candidate would be until it finally dawned on me that it was Lisa Gray.

  12. Hagar says:

It’s late but perhaps some PCs will see this before they leave for the meeting. I’m re-posting the S.H.I.E.L.D. blog from December 11 which exposes the “party builders” for who they are (and party builders they a’int)

    • Night Owl says:

Thanks, Hagar. This is very informative. Wish it had been posted earlier, so more people could gather this information. It gives an added dimension to what we’ve seen here on Seeing Red AZ. If Lisa Gray and Co. win tomorrow, it will be disasterous for the Maricopa County GOP. We’ve been spoiled by the able leadership of Rob Haney. He’s been the best chairman in my memory…which I have to admit is considerable!

  13. theprecinctproject says:

Team LaFaro prevailed. Here’s what I wrote down as the results were announced:

    A.J. LaFaro received 53.3%.
April Riggins received 0.9% more votes than Paul Brierley.
    Jose Borrajero received 57.3%.
    Jeni White received 56.6%.
    David Ludwig received 56.4%.

    Thank you.
