Weekend reading guaranteed to make you smarter

In this recent column, Dr. Thomas Sowell takes on what he terms the moral superiority of liberals in several areas of society, including affirmative action, the destruction of the black family unit through the expansion of the welfare state and gun control.

As always, Thomas Sowell uses his words wisely and makes his points succinctly. This column, Liberalism Versus Blacks, is another quality offering from a brilliant mind.

We highly recommend it to you.

Thank you Seeing Red AZ! I’m always grateful for these excellent columns by Thomas Sowell. When he tackles the issues challenging the black community, he does it with the wisdom of being inside on both the poverty end and as a man who has made a life of prestige for himself by using his wits to get the “key” to unlocking the door out of Harlem: An education.

I read on his bio that he graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University, later earning a master’s degree in economics from Columbia University and a doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago. This from a guy who didn’t even graduate high school!!

He’s now 82. I wish he was 42 and just beginning to share his brilliance with us. I have many of his books and have reread them over the years. I realize I’m nowhere near his intellectual equal, but I credit him with teaching me along the way through his exceptional writings.

The idea that Liberals were ever supportive of African-Americans, or any other minority, is a great myth created and sustained by the Liberal media. Liberals exploit minorities to attain their nefarious ends.

In the 60’s, with “Urban Renewal”, which was supposed to renovate slums in minority neighborhoods and provide housing which was up to standards, African-Amercans were displaced from their neighborhoods and “ghettoized” in high rise, low footprint, public housing. This was a means of gerrymandering through population movement. The captive and concentrated “welfare vote” was used by Liberal Democrats to guarantee election victories in areas critical to them.

Now that African-Americans are no longer so politically useful to Liberals, they have been thrown under the bus in favor of Hispanics and homosexuals who can now be used as more effective weapons against Capitalism, democracy and sovereignty. The national unemployment rate among African-Americans is 7% higher than for whites and while African-American leaders are seeking to strengthen the family unit, Liberal front organizations, like the NAACP, are supporting the homosexual agenda and undermining the preservation of traditional marriage.

You can count on the fact that, down the road, when Hispanics and homosexuals have outlived their usefulness, they too will be thrown under the bus.

“The man of action views the issue of means and ends in pragmatic and strategic terms. He has no other problem; he thinks of his actual resources and the possibilities of various choices of action. He asks of ends only whether they are achievable and worth the cost; of means, only whether they will work.” – Saul Alinsky

Excellent points, euby. Only one small caveat. African-American is a divisive word. Are other Americans hyphenated or divided by their ethnicity? I would never describe myself as an Irish American. I am an American and proud to let that term define me. You’ll notice that Dr. Sowell, who is black, uses only that designation. My college roommate told me he had never been to Africa, had no intention of ever traveling there and didn’t appreciate the (then) trendy term. He called himself American and if pushed, would say black, but only on rare occasions. I became very attuned to these nuances through him and his family.

By the way, my roommate and his family were Americans generations before my family immigrated.

The Republicans were the real party of the BLACK’s, but did very little to make them aware of it in the past century. Unfortunately, they want to hear Obama’s music of entitlement instead of Sowell’s message of responsibility.

The Arizona Republican’s have not done much to get the BLACK vote and they continue to go Democrat.

        More sickness from Westnash!

Westnash wrote: “Unfortunately, they want to hear Obama’s music of entitlement instead of Sowell’s message of responsibility.” Well, I guess that takes care of “the blacks”! We now know where “those people” are coming from, don’t we, Westnash!

Westnash wrote: “The Arizona Republican’s have not done much to get the BLACK vote and they continue to go Democrat.” Tell us, oh wise one, what Arizona Republicans should do to get “the black vote”? You seem to have all of the answers. What are your suggestions for Arizona Republicans in that regard?

        Conservative minds want to know!

      • Westnash says:

I have been to and worked in a couple of countries in Africa. There was a major blow up a few years ago when a commentator said that the descendants of slaves were lucky because of what happened to their forefathers. He was criticized but he WAS TOTALLY CORRECT. American blacks are American, not African and are many worlds ahead of what they would have been if they were anywhere in Africa.

      • eubykdisop says:

Very good, Westnash! Like a true Liberal, you managed to completely ignore the question I asked you and your comment is entirely irrelevant to and disconnected from everything previously posted. Saul Alinksy would be proud of you!

Speaking of getting thrown under the bus, here is what Marco Rubio, who some are promoting as the next Republican presidential candidate, is offering up for Conservative Republicans:

“Senator Marco Rubio Unveils Amnesty Blueprint”

“After nearly a year of touting his ideas for immigration reform, pro-amnesty Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) began releasing details of his legislative proposal last week. While he has not released specific language, Rubio’s plan already consists of the typical open borders lobby reforms, running the gamut from a path to legalization for illegal aliens to increased legal immigration and worksite enforcement provisions.”

“Sen. Rubio insists his proposal to legalize the roughly 11-12 million illegal aliens in the U.S. “is not blanket amnesty or a special pathway to citizenship.” Yet, to qualify under this proposal, Sen. Rubio described the exact same eligibility requirements found in the 2006 and 2007 amnesty bills.”
