Weekend reading guaranteed to make you smarter

We’ve been hearing the term “Common Core” tossed about with greater frequency.  But how many of us actually know the reality behind this insidious scheme to surrender state autonomy on education to Obama administration bureaucrats and promote a nationalized system of education well beyond the appropriate scope of the federal government. In addition, the curriculum associated with Common Core relies on an international perspective instead of traditional studies of American and World History or the study of Western Civilization.

Syndicated columnist and Fox News regular, Michelle Malkin, is writing a continuing series “Rotten to the Core.” Following this fourth installment “The Feds’ Invasive Student Tracking Database,” are others that we recommend to our readers.  If you are a parent or grandparent, even the neighbor of parents with school aged children, consider it your civic responsibility to get up to speed on this invasive governmental expansion and despicable lowering of standards.

These are Malkin’s previous columns on Common Core: (Keep checking back. We will continue to add the latest ones to the top of this list as they become available.)

The current education system is a mush mash that results in huge waste of $$$$$ and uneducated kids. A curriculum should be developed that will provide an opportunity for today’s mobile workforce.

    • eubykdisop says:

Really, Westnash? And what curriculum might that be? Educate us about your ideas of what the curriculum should be.

Are you supporting “Common Core”, Westnash?

    • eubykdisop says:

Sorry, Westy, but I didn’t hear your answer. Should we just go ahead and mark you down as supporting Obama’s “Common Core” then?

  2. Army Of One says:

Thanks for this. I’m one of those who has heard the term and knows nothing about Common Core. I’ll check out Malkin’s posts. I know she’s trustworthy.

I’m really glad that you chose to post an article on this. It has been under the radar because the mainstream media doesn’t want to call attention to it. Between the article and the links, you have it covered very well!

“In addition, the curriculum associated with Common Core relies on an international perspective instead of traditional studies of American and World History or the study of Western Civilization.”

That, SRAZ, is part of the “One World”, “New World Order” agenda.

  4. Delilah says:

Then we all need to support Kelly Townsend, she is one of the few that has stood tall and refused to vote for Common Core. It is making its way through the system here and many a falling for it. I do not know the cure for this horrible educational system, but get the Fed our first, that is a good start. Stop the LaRaza studies, make English the official language of the state, no dual language teaching unless you are in a class to learn a foreign language. Fail the kids if they do not learn, make the parents take the responsibility of doing homework with their kids. Oh gee, I guess that is too old fashioned, we did that in the 60’s and 70’s.

  5. Westnash says:

When every parent and self interest pressure group can set a schools course of study, instead of where future opportunities will be you have a disjointed education system that spends too much $$$$, for too little results…exactly what we have now and one more reason why kids cant read or find employers willing to give them a job despite having the most highly paid and benefitted teachers in the world!

I hope many of our intelligence officials are fluent in Arabic.”

So then would Arabic be part of your school curriculum, Westy?

      • Westnash says:

And you, Euby, would be happy if no American could read Arabic to see what the bad guys were saying and writing.

I want all Americans to have the opportunity to be as smart as they can be. We trail the developed world in language ability. I would be in favor of Arizona requiring Spanish (for legal students of course).

      • eubykdisop says:

Oh, my goodness! Westnash has suddenly become patriotic and concerned for America after wanting to weaken our military…

        “Westnash says:
        February 14, 2013 at 10:17 am
I would propose an immediate 10% cut in all military expenditures including salaries. All of us can get by on 9 out of 10…..the govt. can as well…it is nothing but would make a huge dent in the problem.”

        …implement gun control legislation…

        “Westnash says:
        January 8, 2013 at 8:00 am
There will be some changes in gun regulations at some point in 2013 and the Republicans who only tow the NRA line of “no” will lose. Wouldn’t you rather outsmart your opponent than trying unsuccessfully in throwing up a wall, that is crumbling down around you.”

        …worrying about “blaming” Marxism…

        “Westnash says:
        January 11, 2013 at 3:41 am
Obviously, Euby, it is easy for you to blame Marxism, but impossible to offer a solution for the Arizona Republicans. Hopefully there is someone in the party smarter than you.”

…opposing the “Secure our Borders bunch”…

        “Westnash says:
        February 18, 2013 at 3:35 pm
What I worry that the Secure Our Borders bunch really wants is to spend Billions more in hiring and fences which do nothing but increase the size of Govt.”

        …and attacking Sheriff Arpaio…

        “Westnash says:
        March 1, 2013 at 9:06 am
Interesting that when you have someone like Joe who continues to hang on…you have a real vacuum behind them. Their ego just wont let them develop a successor. Joe should retire soon and develop a strong successor…but I am afraid hubris has set in long ago.”

ROFL! You’re not fooling anyone with your phony Liberal “concern”, Westnash. As poster “Observer” wrote to me about you…

        “Observer says:
        March 3, 2013 at 9:26 pm
Bravo, euby! You had this guy nailed as a liberal early on. How right you were…despite all of his protestations to the contrary.”

        Have a nice day, Westy!

  6. eubykdisop says:

I wonder why it is that the Westnashites so dislike the English language?

    “Westnash says:

I hope many of our intelligence officials are fluent in Arabic.”

    “Westnash says:

I would be in favor of Arizona requiring Spanish (for legal students of course).”

Maybe its because English is the language spoken by Americans rather than Islamic Jihadists and illegal alien invaders!
