The repercussions of the unfolding events in the Mideast with the recent overthrow of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi by the nation’s military as millions of protestors clamored for his removal, are being given scant attention by too many entertainment-seeking Americans who are instead tuning into yet another televised trial. The racially-charged Zimmerman case has replaced the titillating Arias trial as mass entertainment.
Morsi’s predecessor, Egyptian ruler Hosni Mubarak, who led the country for three decades until being ousted Feb. 2011, was viewed as less compliant to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood. Mohammed Morsi, on the other hand, gave Hamas rulers VIP treatment, welcoming them in Cairo as legitimate political leaders and providing a solid endorsement of the group’s extremist Sharia ideology. Little appears to be known about the new interim head of state, senior judge Adly Mansour, although he praised the recent street demonstrations that led to the ouster of Morsi, saying, “I offer my greetings to the revolutionary people of Egypt.”
And Barack Obama? With his own administration infiltrated by Brotherhood activists, he hailed what he called the “democratic election” of the Brotherhood supported Morsi who openly affirmed the Muslim Brotherhood’s jihadist credo and proclaimed the Egyptian constitution should be based on the Koran and Sharia law which advocates worldwide Islamic domination and the destruction of Israel:
“The Koran is our constitution, the Prophet is our leader, jihad is our path and death in the name of Allah is our goal. Today we can establish Sharia law because our nation will acquire well-being only with Islam and Sharia. The Muslim Brothers and the Freedom and Justice Party will be the conductors of these goals.”
What Obama described as the “Arab Spring” was quickly exposed to be a radical Islamic nightmare.
Today it is being reported that Morsi‘s supporters are holding massive and bloody demonstrations in Cairo calling for his return to power. It appears Civil War is imminent.
Pay attention. Egypt is no longer a world away. Here is Barack Obama at Cairo University not long after his first election — sprinkling his speech with quotes from “the Holy Koran,” saying he was proud to carry “….a greeting of peace from Muslim communities in my country: Assalaamu alaykum.”
The entire text of that multi-paged speech is here.
