Gift yourself with the brilliance of Thomas Sowell

November 30, 2013

On his worst day, the random thoughts of Thomas Sowell are guaranteed to put most of our best day insights to shame.  Conservative icon Sowell is a genius.

Before you head out for your holiday shopping today, give yourself a gift.  Read Dr. Sowell’s most recent “Random Thoughts” column.  It’s guaranteed to make you think.  The final sentence in this column, in which he ponders various issues, decisively dissects the current occupant of the White House in this manner: “One of the reasons it has taken so long for some people to finally see through Barack Obama is that people do not like to admit, even to themselves, that they have been played for fools by a slick-talking politician.”

Wild mob of illegals brazenly enters U.S.

November 29, 2013

Abysmal lack of security on dangerously sieve-like southern border

The appalling situation on our nation’s southern border is worsening as illegal aliens armed with rocks and water bottles are now brazenly attacking U. S. Border Patrol agents. (Video second frame down in this link.)

Although the mob of approximately 150 illegals were ordered to stop, they ignored the warnings and unrelentingly pelted the officers, while continuing to walk across the border into the United States. Even with reinforcements, agents were outnumbered, dodging the rocks and other projectiles.

Katie Pavlich, News Editor at Townhall has written that as talks of amnesty have once again increased, illegal crossings have doubled — making the border less secure and the work of Border Patrol Agents more difficult. Illegal immigration has steadily increased in Arizona.

An agent speaking to Townhall said, “We’ve seen the number of illegal aliens double, maybe even triple, since amnesty talk started happening.” The agent requested anonymity due to fear of retaliation within Customs and Border Protection [CBP], something he said is common. “A lot of these people, although not the majority, are criminals or aggravated felons. This is a direct danger to our communities.”

Meanwhile we read that cities across the United States from Tucson to Chicago, Chattanooga to Dayton are inexplicably and irrationally implementing plans to lure illegal workers and passing laws benefiting foreign nationals who have illegally invaded our nation.

Though the Obama administration’s Department of Justice has sued Arizona to keep our state from enforcing SB1070, the federal government has “done nothing to hold these local communities and states accountable for policies that impede immigration enforcement,” says Ira Mehlman of the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

No disrespect intended, Mr. Mehlman, but we’d classify that as an understatement.

Thanksgiving with the family — Obama style

November 28, 2013

A bounce back to reality.  Liberal politicos don’t take the day off.

This video “It’s time to have the talk,” illustrates a sure-fire way to bring the glow of holiday warmth to the family celebration. Treating liberals like the robots they are, the Obama site instructs them to plan when, where, and how they should talk to their family about health insurance.

The Obamabots are  directed to create a list “to make sure your family members have what they need to shop on the new health insurance marketplace,” and provides “tips on answering common questions.”

Not to be outdone, the DNC, also concerned about your family interaction over the holidays, provides talking points for your Republican uncle. Filled with liberal distortions and absurdities, it purports to help people deal with “lively discussions with Republican relatives about politics” that occur during the holiday season. Warning: don’t read after eating. This is a sure gag inducer.

Thanksgiving wishes 2013

November 28, 2013

Rockwell_Thanksgiving

We take a moment to reflect today on the many blessings we enjoy as citizens of this great land, and wish the abundant bounties of this uniquely American holiday to each and every one of our readers.

George Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation:

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to “recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

AZ AG Tom Horne wins apology, settlement from shadowy IE

November 27, 2013

A dishonest independent expenditure (IE) group specializing in attack ads against Republicans has publicly apologized to Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne as part of his defamation lawsuit against the shadowy and disreputable clique.

The group, which admitted to falsifying information about Horne, actually has the audacity to call itself “Arizona Public integrity Alliance.”

The Center for Responsive Politics notes the lacking-in-integrity-alliance does not disclose its donors. They are obviously so proud of their underhanded tactics, they conceal their identities.

The group ran numerous television attack ads earlier this month claiming Horne was under investigation by the FBI, although that was untrue. The apology is part of the settlement agreement in the lawsuit Attorney General Horne brought against the group.

Rather than believe those with nefarious intent, scroll though the Attorney General’s website and see what Tom Horne and his Assistant Attorneys General have been doing on behalf of the citizens of the state of Arizona. This page explains the duties and numerous divisions of the largest law office in the state. Check out the many opinions (2011, 2012, 2013) and media releases for a more complete picture of what this fine Republican Attorney General has accomplished so far  during his first term.

BHO to brassy pro-amnesty heckler: “If I could bypass congress, I would”

November 26, 2013

Obama has already made bypassing congress via executive orders on voting rights, health care, the economy, climate change and illegal immigration a hallmark of his administration

He also says “I respect the passion of these young people….”

But Obama is stony silent on the issue of respecting the Rule of Law and our national sovereignty as he works to expand the Democrat base by legalizing upward of 30 million of those who have invaded the United States. The issue of illegal immigration doesn’t need more laws, studies or debates, it cries out for leadership and enforcement. America doesn’t need immigration reform, it needs leadership reform — a necessity glaringly missing on both sides of the aisle, as we read in Breitbart.

Adding to the problems, the government of Canada has begun rolling up its welcome mat, stepping up efforts to track down and deport thousands of those claiming asylum status, whose applications have been denied. The crackdown is likely to have devastating repercussions in the United States. Analysts warn we could become a new destination for thousands of asylum/refugee applicants soon to be pushed out of the pipeline in Canada.

Arsonist Harry Burkhart is a case in point. The 24-year-old German national traveled to the U.S. from Vancouver after losing his nearly three-year bid for refugee status. During a reign of terror in the Los Angeles area, he set a series of nearly 50 blazes, costing $ millions in property damage. When captured, he told authorities, “I hate America.”

Monday as Obama was making his liberal immigration pitch in the sanctuary city of San Francisco, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) stated, “America is not an oligarchy. Congressional leaders must forcefully reject the notion, evidently accepted by the President, that a small cadre of CEOs can tailor the nation’s entire immigration policy to suit their narrow interests. A Republic must answer to the people.”

Sessions focused on the devastating impact immigration reform legislation will have on working class Americans of all backgrounds — a Congressional Budget Office determination that Sessions has continually emphasized while advocating on behalf of the interests of American workers. He said Obama “must be asked — by media and lawmakers alike — how he can possibly justify a plan that will double the flow of immigrant workers at a time when 91.5 million Americans are outside the labor force?”

Good question, Senator.

Arizona Republic speaks illegalese

November 25, 2013

Tucked in among the plethora of hearing aid ads aimed at its mostly senior readership, the  Periódico de la República de Arizona (Arizona Republic) newspaper’s headline, “Regents reject step toward lower migrant tuition,” sits atop a report bemoaning the fact that the Arizona Board of Regents rejected a motion to lower tuition for…..you guessed it …..”undocumented” students.

The República’s brief report uses the term “undocumented immigrants” 8 times, twice in abutting sentences. Although much of the anorexic newspaper’s feed is sourced from AP, this article was written by staffer Anne Ryman.

The article would be laughable if not so bizarre. Written in accordance with the latest AP Stylebook standards outlined in ‘Illegal immigrant’ no more, in which Senior VP and Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll last April explained the changing manner of “how we describe people living in a country illegally.”

The Washington Times editorially addresses this attempt at language control by correctly stating altering words “doesn’t’ change facts.” The Times contends the term “illegal alien” is highly specific and accurately describes the problem, unlike “undocumented immigrant,” which purposefully removes a stigma that should rightly remain.

In December 2010 Seeing Red AZ reported that the Diversity Committee of the Society of Professional Journalists was calling on news reporters nationwide to stop using the term “illegal immigrant” in their news coverage.  Seeing Red AZ will continue to use the appropriate term “illegal aliens” to describe those invading our nation. We direct you to our primer “How to decipher Republicese,” which includes a link to the popular “Lingo.”

In 2006 a law (Prop. 300), passed by 71 percent of state voters prohibited “a student who does not have lawful immigration status from qualifying as an in-state student for tuition purposes.” It also prevents such students from receiving any financial aid paid from state funds. The in-state and non-resident tuition and mandatory fee schedules can be seen here.

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne has said the intention of the law is clear and in June he sued the community college district for violating state law by giving such benefits to illegal alien students. Bravo to Horne for enforcing the law!

US Rep. Sinema: Ex-Greenie-turned-Dem saved by party switch

November 24, 2013

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett reports that the Green Party has been decertified in Arizona because it doesn’t have enough registered party members.  The group was also hampered by the fact that too few Greenies voted in last year’s presidential election.

To qualify for recognized party status, new parties must file 23,041 valid signatures with the Secretary of State by February 27, 2014. The Green Party is attempting to get recertified.

In a bold stroke of political opportunism, Kyrsten Sinema concocted the reconfiguration of herself as a radical Democrat —- facilitating her election to Congress in AZ CD-9 in 2012.

But a decade earlier, in 2002, Sinema lost her initial state legislative race as a Green Party candidate.  She finished in last place, receiving only 8% of the vote.  By 2004, as a newly constructed Democrat — Sinema, a close associate of Janet Napolitano — won a state legislative House seat in the former LD 15, by 37%.  Now she’s a far-left member of Congress.

Although she revels in her unconventional roles as the first openly bisexual and acknowledged atheist elected to the U.S. Congress, Kyrsten Sinema nonetheless became mainstream enough to gain the endorsement of the liberal Arizona Republic and skunk the CD-9 voters.

Her yearly “Cinco de Mayo greeting” in the Communist People’s Weekly World and foul mouthed descriptions of stay-at-home mothers apparently didn’t phase the Dems who dutifully marked the ballot for her.  Recently, transforming herself yet again,  she tried to separate herself from the Obamacare debacle by voting with the GOP.

Sinema will be up for reelection in the upcoming congressional mid-terms. Will the Democrats continue to pay so little attention?

Obama’s state-run media rivals Pravda

November 23, 2013

Remember when Barack Obama promised his administration will be the most open and transparent in the history of the country?

How times have changed. Now there’s a new supremacy move emanating from the Obama White House, limiting the right of the American people to get an independent view of the president while he’s conducting official business.

THIRTY-EIGHT of the nation’s largest news organizations have lodged a complaint against the White House for instituting troublesome new limitations on photojournalists covering the president. Access to important executive branch functions is being shut off so the White House can release its own ‘official’ video and photos. This is the letter* hand-delivered to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney protesting the restrictive new policies.

Laura Ingraham rightly defined it as Pravda-style propaganda. As the press has begun to turn a more critical eye on Obama and his policies, the White House has moved more aggressively to limit access and circumvent scrutiny. This is a far cry from what Barack Obama promised when he said “transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency.”  At long last, the Obama-colluding mainstream media appears to be waking up — even if it’s five years too late.

The White House deceptively claims it is adding more transparency and access via its own official photographers and videographer. In fact, independent journalism is being replaced by paid White House staffers, who under the administration’s newly imposed limits on media access represent a troubling precedent with a direct and adverse impact on the public’s ability to independently monitor and see what its government is doing.
