New U.S. Senator speaks truth: It’s not “immigration” that’s the problem

Oklahomans have elected a thinking conservative senator in James Lankford

Oklahoma Republican U.S. Rep./Senator-elect James Lankford was among the guests appearing on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace yesterday. He is clearly a man to keep our eyes on. Oklahoma should be commended for sending this thinking conservative to the U.S. Senate.

Lankford responded to a baiting comment from Wallace harkening back to a “government shutdown” as the conversation turned to defunding Barack Obama’s unilateral decision to shove through amnesty for illegals via an executive order.

LANKFORD: “But people are not pursuing some government shutdown, though. Let me take you back into the Clinton administration. President Clinton put out an executive order and the House voted against that to defund that executive order 417-2. That was in 1998, because it took over power from the legislative branch in the states. I would love to see that bipartisanship again where the Congress steps up and says to a president, you do not have executive authority to do this. You have to do your responsibility. We have to do ours.”

WALLACE: “But I guess what I’m trying to get at and, you know, I fully understand there are a lot of members who say, look, you’ve got to use the power of the purse. That’s your one advantage, your one piece of leverage over the president, to try to change policy. But are you willing to go to possibly shutting down the government to do that? Because it seems — let me — my point is, that regardless of who is responsible on the merits, it seems like Congress gets blamed and the president ends up winning. It certainly happened in October of 2013.”

LANKFORD: “Sure. But, Chris, your assumption is, is that that’s the only option that’s sitting out here, is to be able to shut down government. I just don’t believe that that’s true. I think there are ways to be able to fund everything, and I don’t think the president has the high ground. He has this perception that everyone in the country thinks like him, and that is not correct. I represent millions of people. Tom Cotton represents millions of people. There are millions of people scattered around the United States that think like us, and, though, the president thinks only these few crazy conservatives in Congress think this way and no one else does, he’s misjudged the American people.

Arizonans who don’t hear such cogent truth from their own senators might want to commit these words spoken by newly elected Sen. James Lankford to memory: “The American people really do believe in the rule of law. They don’t have a problem with immigration. They have a problem with illegal immigration. And for the president to step up and say, I’m just going to remove the word “illegal” and to be able to transition this and ignore the law, a lot of people have a problem with that, Republicans and Democrats alike.”

Lankford, who refreshingly campaigned as “a faithful, conservative leader” will fill the unexpired term of retiring Senator, Dr. Tom Coburn, who is sadly battling serious health problems.

How refreshing it would be to have actual conservatives representing Arizona. John McCain and his likeminded amnesty twin Jeff Flake both campaign to the right and immediately after the ballots are counted, revert to their duplicitous open border schemes, even taking leadership roles conspiring with Democrats, as they did with the so-called Gang of Eight….which I think of as the Eight Gangsters.

  2. Arizona Conservative Guy says:

Can any principled, constitutional conservative Arizonans even imagine having the opportunity to vote for a candidate who defines himself as “a faithful, conservative leader” ? What a pleasure that would be!!

    • azgary says:

problem is, we do have politicians who define THEMSELVES that way, its just that their definitions are wrong and those of us who follow their actions know it is a lie

  3. azgary says:

Paul “amnesty” Gosar was on Laura Ingraham pretending he was against amnesty.

We know better raul….oops I mean paul:

“There is no question that our immigration system is not working”
“Reforming our immigration system must start by streamlining and expanding legal immigration”
“there is no benefit to keeping 11 million illegal immigrants trapped in the shadows”
“Reforming our immigration system to address the status of the 11 million people in our country illegally should focus on
    normalizing their legal status”
By U.S. Reps. David Schweikert, Matt Salmon and Paul Gosar

Gosar, be it obamas executive amnesty or your called for legislative amnesty makes NO difference. It still is Anti American citizen and does nothing but damage our country and our people.

Why not represent the American people instead of foreigners or is that not the way you get ahead these days in the progpublican party and get all that sweet lobbyist cash.

    • State Delegate says:

Gosar and the rest of them are attempting to play us for fools. This is what Matt Salmon and Trent Franks have to say today in a tough sounding opinion piece in the daily rag, “Why Congress Must Stop Obama on Immigration.”

It wasn’t all that long ago the GOP delegation of Schweikert, Salmon and Gosar (minus Franks that time) were calling for amnesty (in softer terms) in this bogus piece of unenforceable garbage that was in the amnesty loving newspaper called “What Immigration Reform Must Entail.”

Arizona Republicans need to realize we are being snookered by the same liars we repeatedly elect who smile to our face and favor illegal invaders over Americans. They rely on the cheap labor supporting Chamber of Commerce $$$$ to fund their campaigns and conveniently forget about American workers. The time to recruit replacements for these hypocrites is NOW. Credentials should include intellectual and moral integrity, no waffling on issues crucial to our national security and the ability to fund a campaign.

they need to be called frequently and be told there is NO difference between the amnesty Obama wants and the amnesty they want. they are out to destroy the nation and the country equally and we are not fooled by their duplicity, be sure to cite their calls for amnesty and the destruction of American citizens in your second link!
let them know, amnesty is ANYTHING including the status quo that allows illegals to stay in the country.
the best thing we can do to end it is massive fines and prison for employers of illegals

        Rep Paul A. Gosar (R4) 202-225-2315
        Rep Matt Salmon (R5) 202-225-2635
        Rep David Schweikert (R6) 202-225-2190
        Rep Trent Franks (R8) 202-225-4576

they think we are as dumb as gruber says americans are, if we do not jump on them, they will be proven correct. there is really no difference in the contempt the ruling class, be they republican or democrat, holds we the people in.

WOW! When someone campaigns as a “faithful, conservative leader” you can bet they mean it. Those words are so negatively provocative to RINOs, they would never identify themselves that way, even if to deceive.

Having been in Congress, Sen. Lankford knows the persuasive temptations of the big bucks that come from colluding with the left. To run and WIN with this ideal guiding him gives me hope.

  5. Frankly Speaking says:

Sen. Lankford is absolutely correct in noting that Obama’s executive order on amnesty for illegal aliens creates problems with “Republicans and Democrats alike.”

Oregon is a decidedly liberal state, that legalized recreational marijuana, assisted suicide and expanded democrat majorities in state government during the November 2014 election cycle.

But few outside the state seemed to notice that even liberal Oregonians decisively rejected Ballot Measure 88, which should serve as a warning to Obama about the political perils of forcing through his illegal immigration policy.

Oregon voters decided, and by a massive margin of 66 -34 percent to cancel a new state law that would have granted the privilege of having driver’s licenses to illegals aliens.

    Check it out!!

    • Orion says:

Looking at the Oregon election results link you provided, I see that the Top Two Primary (on the ballot as Measure 90) that the AZ Repulsive newspaper constantly promotes was defeated by an over two to one margin in liberal land Oregon! That also warmed my cockles.

  6. Borderhawk says:

Lankford is more pro amnesty than the AZ 4. He has flip flopped.

We need Bridenstine in 2016 running for the full term.

I prefer Lankford the nobody Senator to “evolved” Coburn.

Coburn started pushing amnesty and liberal ideas as he headed towards retirement.

Lankford has to run again in 2016 for the full term. Hopefully Jim Bridenstine runs against him. The timing is better.

Bridenstine will then be a 2 term Congressman not a 1 term congressman taking a risk.

I dont trust Gosar but McSalmon licks Boehner’s boots. Gosar will speak at a presser with Steve King on occasion. McSalmon is clearly the worst being hand picked by Boehner to sit on his special committee with RINOs and Democrats.

More disturbingly, he offered a typical liberal non-sequitur in support of amnesty: “I wouldn’t prohibit forever (people from getting citizenship). I’m a Christian, and restitution and reconciliation’s a big deal. If you do something illegal or inappropriate you should be able to resolve that, face the penalty, clear it and be forgiven.”
