McCain vulnerable in 2016: All eyes on Sen. Kelli Ward

Breitbart News runs this “Exclusive” report titled, “GOP Primary campaign against weakened John McCain by AZ Republicans increasingly likely.”  Conservative Republicans living in Arizona have grown ever more dissatisfied with the liberal antics of this over-the-hill self-anointed “maverick” who has not represented us for decades. The ire has erupted into censure resolutions at various county meetings and at the annual state Republican Statutory meeting of elected delegates —- who clearly have had their fill of John McCain.

Matthew Boyle, writing for Breitbart, muses that U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ CD-5) is eyeing a challenge to McCain. When Salmon considered such a run in 2010, the word in political circles was he had gotten the horse’s-head-in-the-bed message and prudently left his aspirations unfulfilled. McCain is nothing if not ruthless when confronted and has no compunctions about lying to briefly configure himself as a conservative when election season rolls around.  It would be a major stunner if Salmon throws caution to the winds this time around.

McCain wins with the votes of the state’s senior population and newcomers who recognize his ubiquitous name and have little other information. His key advantage is the disengaged, apathetic voter.

Sen. Kelli Ward is another story. An accomplished woman —- a physician —- serving her second term in the Arizona senate, she has been traveling the state, sizing up her support. Unlike McCain, who receives jeers, boos and turned backs, she has been met with enthusiastic crowds who see her conservative perspective as manna from political heaven.

Ward told Breitbart News she thinks Congress needs more doctors like her, “people in the trenches who actually want to fight Obamacare not ‘yes men’ who want to keep socializing our medical system and leading to single-payer, that’s no good for patients, no good for doctors, no good for anybody.”

Kelli Ward’s husband Mike is a surgeon as well as a Colonel in the AZ Air National Guard where he serves as Arizona’s State Air Surgeon. The couple have three children and reside in Lake Havasu City, where Sen. Ward  represents Legislative District 5.

Over two weeks ago we posted “AZ 2016 U.S. Senate race takes bright, right turn,” detailing the emergence of KelliPAC, an  Independent Expenditure Committee put together by supporters of Kelly Ward, hoping to coax her into taking on McCain.

    wasn’t it kelli and her senate committee who took away the power of the voters by taking away power from the spi and leaving it with unelected democrat bureaucrats, guaranteeing common core will remain in place?

    we must stop calling people conservative once they have sold out the voters. doing it ONCE is enough to disqualify.

    stop endorsing before all the info is out and all the questions answered.

It’s the hearing on HB 2184, to me the hearing wasn’t really necessary as the decisions had already been made to vote for it, however believe Smith did change on Amendment and voted No, but then voted yes on the Bill, so compromise is alive and well.
      I hope you’ll all listen to the first 10 to 15 min. and then again to discussion from about 43 min. to 57 min., I believe this shows what is really happening and how they even admit they’re handing over power to the Appointed Board and how the Chief of Staff Bradley is really the one who’s moving this forward, this once again is what I believe has happened and I’m posting it so hopefully all those who say this didn’t happen or the Political Spin being put on this is available for all to see the truth of it.

    “the “Kelli Ward amendment”. Under this Proposed Amendment, the Superintendent of Public Instruction – elected by the people of this state – will be required to execute whatever policies (i,e. Common Core) that are agreed to by the non-elected State Board of Education.

    This is a case of the elected officials abdicating their authority to unelected folks who don’t answer to the voters. Next thing you will see is the non-elected State Board of Education given fee making authority to fund education so our elected official can wash their hands of raising taxes. This is VERY BAD POLICY.

      I’m familiar with your ‘anti-everyone’ comments. Personally, as a longtime elected state and county delegate, I join with others around the state of Arizona who feel we’ve been screwed over quite enough by John McCain. Jeff Flake is no different and even more insidious due to his relatively young age which will enable him to continue on the same McPath even after McCain is long gone.

      As to Sen. Ward, I’ve heard her speak twice, and appreciate her straightforward responses to questions. I have conservative friends in Lake Havasu who are great fans of hers and believe she’s the real deal. I didn’t just fall off the political turnip truck, and I’m more than ready for a change. She can pull it off.

    If there’s anything that can set me off, it’s the mention of John McCain. I’ve never missed voting in an election – local, state or federal since I was eligible to vote. I voted for McCain once – against the Marxist Obama, never for congress or senate. I detest the man.

    I was in line at Costco a few years ago and an elderly gentleman and I started talking and got into politics as an election was right around the corner. The very elderly man said he was voting for John McCain. I didn’t get into it as I would with someone younger, but I made it known that I’d never vote for McCain. Senior citizens are loyal to a fault with McCain and his “war hero” B.S.

    I’ll get behind any good conservative, as I did with JD Hayworth, to finally put an end to the ‘career’ of McCain who never worked a day in his life like the rest of us. People across the country can’t stand him or his antics and they ask Arizonans ‘why’ they keep electing him. That dirt isn’t on my hands.

      You would be ‘conservative’ #4 to totally ignore the issue Gary has raised, and simply attack him personally. I don’t think fingers-in-ears and humming loudly to drown him out helps educate the rest of us not all that familiar with what is going on in the legislature.

      If in fact Ward’s amendment strips the SPI of her authority and hands it to Brewer/Ducey appointees, isn’t that an alarm bell? Yes or no? Most all of us want McCain out, but giddiness shouldn’t completely disarm vetting and analysis of the challenger.

    McCain will not be able to get away with using this woman as a punching bag as he did to JD Hayworth. He’ll lose the women’s vote in a flash and he knows it. Further, as a physician she is knowledgeable on the deceit underwriting Obamacare. I suspect she will be able to raise money from other doctors around the country as well as the grassroots of the AZ Republican Party who despise McCain. His only base are the RINO establishment types housed at the AZ GOP headquarters who view the disgraceful old codger as their connection to power. I’ll take the on target assessment of former House Majority Leader Tom Delay over azgary any day of the week.

The LP’ers will nominate some fertilizer salesman from nowhere, just because they can, and snicker together while they mail in their early votes. Robert McGraham will be inanely trumpeting the more primary choices the better for the “R’s” while he sends the McGOP funds to the McEstablishment RINOS.

    Kelli Ward may be a good choice as a candidate to run and lose to the senior senator. John Huppenthal ran for reelection advocating for common core or whatever it is called this week. I was at an AZSBA event and Kelli Ward was on a panel and her comments were favorable towards the standards. Later in a private conversation she again was all for the standards. In my less than humble opinion the opposition candidate should be someone from the US AZ Congressional delegation like Dr Paul Gossar or go really creative and draft Sarah.

    GOP AZ Legislators Snuck one past us in the Budget. SB1469 / HB2671, signed by the Governor, made the SBE (Arizona State Board of Education) a new and separate agency, giving them not just two full time employees but grows to 11 full time employees and $1,705,000 lump sum appropriation. They stopped HB2184 with Sen. Wards’ amendment making the SBE a separate agency they put it in the budget and expanded the authorized number of employees. So it isn’t about ” 2 employees” as Senator Ward said in committee, they are now authorized 11 FTE. . . .
    This is why the Senate stopped HB2184, with only 11 for possible employees of the Board, was referenced at the committee hearing on the bill and the Ward Amendment.
    (This is how our GOP legislators create a new state agency by adding it to the BUDGET? The GOP passed the bill before we the Voters can find out what’s in it!)
    The Senate Rules Committee and Caucus heard HB2184, on 3/4/15.The action making the state board of education a new and separate agency was part of an extensive Biggs Floor Amendment to SB1469, dated Saturday,3/7/15. Now they just have to conform the statutes to their budget-created State Agency as GOP Legislators ignore the intent of the Arizona State Constitution. . .

    We’ve seen all those who voted for this bill since it’s happened and not a Word from any of them.
    Why have they stayed Silent on this since they passed it days ago?
    Any GOP office holder that voted for this bill has a great deal of explaining to do, as to why they’re fit to serve US at any level, this is a Direct Violation of Trust, and needs to be explained and not excused, these people were elected to serve US and the Children of AZ, this is a Total Betrayal to all and for those who claim to Support the Constitution & Smaller Government I’ll Love hearing them explain this one away and hope all in AZ who fought against Common Core realize what they’ve just done to all of US.
