McConnell: Obama ‘has done an excellent job’

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) appeared on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday morning, telling host George Stephanopoulos that he supports Hillary Clinton’s Obamatrade deal. (Transcript here)

McConnell has come under fire from both Republicans and Democrats this past week for pushing the slippery Trade Promotion Authority that would fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership trade liberalization deal Barack Obama and then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton negotiated with eleven Pacific Rim nations.

Conservative Rick Manning, president of Americans for Limited Government, contends McConnell is jeopardizing Republican control of the U.S. Senate in the next election by pushing this tremendously unpopular trade deal through Congress.

But McConnell is not to be dissuaded. He previously described his coordination with Obama on trade as “an out-of-body experience.”

Fast-track authority faces a significantly more difficult path in the House. Nearly all Democrats are opposed to the scheme, along with strong a contingent of Republicans.

U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, expressed confidence that the measure will pass in the House. “We will have the votes,” Ryan declared on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “We’re doing very well. We’re gaining a lot of steam and momentum.”

Arizona Rep. Matt Salmon (R-CD-5) exhibiting eel-like slipperiness, was quoted as saying,

“The president I don’t think has any political capital at all with this place, and it’s coming to bear right now because the president needs a real heavy lift, and nobody feels any real connection with him or like they owe him anything.”

Still, Salmon plans to vote for Obama’s trade agenda when it hits the House floor, though unlike Ryan, he claims doesn’t think House GOP leadership has the votes.

“I’m voting for it,” Salmon stated, “not because of him but in spite of him. I don’t think he could pick me out of a crowd, which is so different from when I was here when Bill Clinton was president because President Clinton was really engaged with everybody.”

Sunday’s Arizona Republic weighs in with an mega-editorial urging Democrats Kyrsten Sinema (CD-9) and Ann Kirkpatrick (CD-1) not to side “with extremists” and to ignore pressure from labor unions which oppose the trade pact and, coincidently, fund their campaigns.

McConnell’s Taiwanese-born wife Elaine Chao, is a politically savvy, former U.S. Secretary of Labor in the George W. Bush cabinet. I wouldn’t be surprised that she influences him with an even greater “out-of-body-experience” than he gets from Obama.

    • SmallGovt says:

Elaine may give good advice on where to funnel the Chinese money but she was a completely inarticulate Secretary of Labor who did nothing but parrot talking points. She is probably a fan of McCain.

  2. Southwest Cincinnatus says:

You need to call your Congressman…WHOEVER HE OR SHE MAY BE!!! (Don’t waste your time with McCain & Flake!) I saw Dick Morris on Newsmax TV…and he told JD Hayworth that this TPP Trade Bill basically allows “free movement of workers” among the nations who are part of this agreement…which would mean even more “migrants” arriving in the US…over and above the thousands who are flooding across our southern border right now!!! Call Washington…and help ’em see the light by feeling the heat!

    • Doc says:

Sadly, calling these hypocritical idiots is absolutely a waste of time. They don’t give a damn what we think. Nor do they care about their oaths. mcCONnell’s words to another criminal of his own ilk, geo. stephenopoulos, bear this disappointing fact out. I’m the biggest fan of “CALL ‘EM” here, but at this juncture, I feel like I’m beatin’ my head on a doorjamb. mcCONnell is as much of a disgrace as mcTraitor. And for “th’ fish” salmon to vote in favor of marxist, illegal immigration supporting legislation (as well as th’ rest of our reps) just doesn’t surprise me 1 little bit.

    • Attila The Hunny says:

Thanks, Southwest Cincinnatus. I looked this up and found the program you referred to. Here’s Dick Morris sounding the alarm on the UNRESTRICTED immigration aspect of this power grab trade deal that circumvents congress by way of a Treaty, which binds any future US Presidents as no legislation could ever do.

This is from April 20. Go to 5:59 for the unreported and very shocking part about the trade deal. IT’S BEYOND IMPORTANT. Watch it Doc, and it’s a good bet you’ll change your mind about calling. We ALL need to.

  3. Conservative Since Birth says:

Matt Salmon, a supposed Conservative, plans to vote for something ‘negotiated’ by Obama and Hillary Clinton, but he doesn’t think the House has the votes.

That makes no sense. Why risk ire from constituents and vote for something that’s extremely unpopular. It’s been under lock and key from view and if Congress wanted to read it, they couldn’t take notes and if they did, they would have to leave the notes in the far-off room where it was “displayed.” Two Senators have read it and were against it – Jeff Sessions and Mike Lee. But who knows what they’ll do in the final count. Supposedly this ‘trade deal’ will provide the U.S. with an unending supply of illegal aliens.

McConnell is reprehensible. He should have boycotted Stephanopoulis’ show yesterday. They’re all so incestuous, they don’t even see what they’re doing. McConnell was reelected just like the snake, McCain gets reelected. Big money and dirty politics.

    GOP = Give Obama Power

  4. Conservative Since Birth says:

“Speaker John Boehner (Ohio) and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) are projecting the picture of incompetence — if not raw intellectual dishonesty – and if something isn’t done about this, and soon, they will pay an extraordinary price. So what’s gone wrong?”

  5. Weary Of Lies says:

The Republican party is absolutely devoid of leadership. We in Arizona know that all too well with Robert Graham’s acting as a docile subservient to the McHierarchy, and having to endure incompetents McCain and Flake in the US Senate. Equally repulsive are the liberal accommodators posing as conservatives we elected to represent us in the US House. They all talk tough while campaigning and then once elected fold like wet sheets on the crucial issue of illegal immigration. We might as well have elected Dimcrats. At least we EXPECT them to screw us over.

  6. East Valley Conservative says:

David Schweikert endorsed Matt Salmon during his last campaign after a 10-year hiatus as a D.C. lobbyist. So did Trent Franks. Let’s see how THEY vote on obamatrade.
Conservative voters in Arizona would have to be brain dead to keep voting for Republicans who have no moral compass. Paul Gosar signed on to the “we are all immigrants” op-ed with Schweikert and Salmon which the amnesty supporting AZ Republic was all too happy to print.

I’ve had enough of them all! It’s time for a real change. Time is running out. I’ll contribute to conservative candidates, but the goose has stopped laying for these posers.

AN AIRPLANE WAS ABOUT TO CRASH; THERE WERE 5 PASSENGERS ON BOARD, BUT ONLY 4 PARACHUTES.
THE FIRST PASSENGER, HOLLY MADISON SAID, “I HAVE MY OWN REALITY SHOW AND I AM THE SMARTEST AND PRETTIEST WOMAN AT PLAYBOY, SO AMERICANS DON’T WANT ME TO DIE.” SHE TOOK THE FIRST PACK AND JUMPED OUT OF THE PLANE.

THE SECOND PASSENGER, JOHN MCCAIN, SAID, “I’M A SENATOR, AND A DECORATED WAR HERO FROM AN ELITE NAVY UNIT FROM THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA .” SO HE GRABBED THE SECOND PACK AND JUMPED.

THE THIRD PASSENGER, BARACK OBAMA SAID, “I AM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND I AM THE SMARTEST EVER IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY, SOME EVEN CALL ME THE ‘ANOINTED ONE’. SO HE GRABBED THE PACK NEXT TO HIM AND JUMPED OUT.

THE FOURTH PASSENGER, BILLY GRAHAM, SAID TO THE FIFTH PASSENGER, A 10-YEAR-OLD SCHOOLGIRL, “I HAVE LIVED A FULL LIFE AND SERVED MY GOD THE BEST I COULD. I WILL SACRIFICE MY LIFE AND LET YOU HAVE THE LAST PARACHUTE. “THE LITTLE GIRL SAID, “THAT’S OKAY, MR. GRAHAM. THERE’S A PARACHUTE LEFT FOR YOU — AMERICA ‘S SMARTEST PRESIDENT TOOK MY SCHOOLBAG.”

This is an extremely serious topic, hardly the place for ALL CAP (or even lower case) jokes. Very revealing about your level of comprehension.

  8. jon jensen says:

Obama wants to get on the board of directors of every multi national corporation he can at a million dollar salary each even though he is a muslim communist from kenya. What is the republicans excuse for selling america out?

  9. Ellsworth says:

Who cares if Obama could pick Matt Salmon out of a crowd, but the self absorbed Matt Salmon? I just want him to vote right. but it‘s clear he won‘t. His Mormon mission took him to China and he is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Those are influences at least as potent as Mitch McConnell’s “out of body” experience.

  10. azgary says:

Ted cruz is also for this and has been lobbying for it, (Cruz, Ryan urge Senate to pass Fast Track http://m.washingtonexaminer.com/cruz-ryan-urge-senate-to-pass-fast-track/article/2563423 )

but its no real surprise since he is also for amnesty while denying it.

why cant we find actual conservatives who look out for American citizens first and foremost?
