Dems defeat Obama on trade scheme….

….for now

Despite Obama’s intensive campaign to gain support for his signature Trans-Pacific Partnership deal, he was unable to convince more than a few Democrats to support his push for the disastrous fast-track authority he so desperately desired. Had this passed, he would have been granted authority to submit the measure to Congress for a vote in a specified timetable without lawmakers being able to amend it.

With supportive Chamber of Commerce mega-bucks campaign contributions on the line, there has been widespread Republican support for this lunacy.

Obama’s dramatic defeat followed a lengthy lobbying campaign in which he invested significant credibility and political capital. Next to Obamacare, this was his most sought after key issue for passage. It also has his long-favored open borders and climate change components attached.

The House vote was 302 to 126. (Republicans are in roman; Democrats in italic; Independents are underlined). Although Matt Salmon (R-AZ CD 5) has tried to bring conservatives onboard to support the measure, no doubt sensing the extreme level of opposition, he ultimately joined the entire Arizona delegation in voting against it.

Even liberal Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker, voted against the deplorable bill.

Although the secretly negotiated legislation is now “stuck in the station,” as Pelosi described it, Speaker John Boehner, has decided to give Obama the weekend to try to win over enough Democrats, saying he intends to bring it up for reconsideration in the House next Tuesday.

It looks like some will be able to keep their jobs a little bit longer before they have to become walmart greeters.

I trust none of the Republicans anymore. They all have an agenda that isn’t mine…or likely yours either. Their focus is strictly on the next election. I just keep my eyes open, stay attentive and “play the game” at my district meetings, but I’m finding it more and more difficult.

boehner being overwhelmingly reelected speaker tells us all we need to know about the republican party and congress

Today was a good day. Obama got creamed by his own party and the Republican leadership was exposed for what they are – out for their masters and themselves.

      It was certainly “telling.”
My brother forwarded me the email he received from his congressman today, begging for money since he’s down a few thou and wants to look good for his next filing. I guess he thinks his conservative constituents will be so grateful that they’ll cough up some cash. My brother won’t be giving anymore and neither will I in my district. These conservative posers can beg the equally conniving Glenn Hamer at the Chamber to intercede for them with the amnesty loving members who prefer cheap foreign workers to Americans.

I want to see how they all vote and what excuses they might contrive when OBoehner brings this nightmare back for a vote on Tuesday.

Nancy piglosi wants a bribe and pork from the republicans to secure votes. more backroom deal making will be in the works at our expense:

She further signaled would be more willing negotiate on TAA if the House moves on the highway bill.

“The prospects for passage of a such a bill will greatly increase with the passage of a robust highway bill,” she wrote.

Thank you for covering this outrageous attack on our democracy. I’ve searched twenty “conservative” AND libertarian web sites, and this is only the 3rd that has the story. Boehner and McConnell are traitors. Remember, EVERY Republican senator running for prez voted for it, including St. Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Rick Santorum. The GOP elite and Obama are in it together. I didn’t think I’d ever support Democrats, Republicans are going to get creamed in 2016.

There is some BOOLSHEET SHENANIGANS goin’ on here! Th’ COWARD j.boehner voted NOE, along with piglosi. Watch. I’m calling Paul Lyin-Ryan’s office Monday to let his staffers know that we here in AZ think he’s…worthless. obastard’s got SOMETHING on these knuckleheadz & is blackmailin’ th’ whole lot…

    • azgary says:

no, that’s giving the traitors an out to pretend they are being blackmailed.

they do what they do for lobbyist bribes and power, nothing more

  6. Hagar says:

Don’t be too quick to praise our Arizona Republican congressmen for their “no” votes on this. The very next vote was for the Trade Agreement itself and all, except Gosar, voted for it. It passed 219 to 211, so if Salmon, Schweikert, Franks and McSally had voted against it, it would have died because of a tie vote, 215 to 215.

    • Conservative Since Birth says:

Gosar has been steadfastly against this from the beginning. For that, I give him credit. Salmon was for it before he was against it and for it again. What a slime ball.

  7. SmallGovt says:

Like it or no, it is gonna pass soon.

  8. Conservative Since Birth says:

McCain was on KFYI yesterday singing the praises of the TPA/TPP, along with NAFTA. He said the criticisms of NAFTA “have died down a long time ago.”

I think I’ll send this to him:
